Chapter 9
The sun shone directly on my face, making me wince the moment I woke up. Slowly, I opened my eyes and it was the breathtaking view of the snowcapped mountains outside that I saw first and then the eerie woods where I ventured yesterday–
I paused and got up too quickly that my head spun.
Memories came flooding into me the moment I let it. It flooded my brain that it was hard to keep up. Then the memory of the mind–numbing pain I felt as I was bitten by a pack of wolves with
poisonous bites came in and I shivered. I instantly checked my body for any bite marks and found
none.
It was as if what happened last night was just a bad dream. It was as if I did not venture into the woods.
And as if it wasn’t enough, another memory flashed into my head. A memory of darkness wrapping itself around me. The familiar sensation of fear and then…pleasure.
I gasped and stumbled onto the wooden floor as I recalled what happened after I almost got abducted by the wolves in the woods.
Lance came. He saved me. No…he punished me for escaping. His bite cured my wounds but it also made me feel…lustful. Made me humiliate myself.
Heat burned my cheeks as I recalled the images he fed my brain to intensify the pleasure. The images were of him pleasuring me. It was a punishment. A punishment because I tried to escape. I bit my lip and started cursing him out inside my head.
Then I heard the soft chuckle. The all–too–familiar feline chuckle made my toes curl and skitter along my bones.
“Get out of my head,” I hissed and glared at the mirror as though I could see him from the reflection of my eyes.
“How are you feeling?” he asked in a voice that made me shiver.
“Get out of my head,” I repeated with more bite in my voice this time.
He chuckled once again and it made me even more pissed.
“Embarrassed, are we?”
“Say what you want to say and get out.”
I stiffened when I felt something cold in my body. But then I realized, I couldn’t actually move even as I tried to. I trembled when I felt the familiar and brutal coldness of his power raking the walls of my head as if trying to make a point.
Damned power.
He let out another soft chuckle. “I just came to check up on you and make sure you’re not making another mistake of trying to go to the woods to escape. And I will not be home for the whole day so my cousin, Millie, shall be your companion for the day.”
I thought anyone would be a better companion than Lance but then he said it’s his cousin.
“You don’t need to send me a companion. I’m fine all alone.”
“Oh? Are you planning another escape, little wolf?”
“Fuck you.”
He laughed. The sound skittered along my bones and made me swallow. I cursed my reaction.

“Be a good girl and behave,” he said and before I could curse him out, he was gone.
Pissed. I got up from the bed and made a vulgar gesture with my fingers on the mirror. As if he could

“Prick, prick, prick,” I muttered as I kicked the pillow repeatedly. My cheeks were still burning from what happened last night. How he made me feel that way and how he watched as I embarrassed myself in front of him.
Then I remembered how he looked at me. How his eyes burned with desire as I tried to pleasure myself with my fingers. How pleasure took me down the path I did not want to go but enjoyed it anyway. I remembered how he gripped the chair so tightly that it broke. I remembered how it also had an effect on him when I saw that bulge in his pants.
I could have sworn I heard him chuckle at the back of my head and I kicked the pillow again.
“Well, that’s not going to hurt Lance,” said a voice from the doorway that made me stop thrashing the pillow.
I saw a woman. Perhaps she was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life. She looked exactly like Lance and it almost freaked me out.
She tipped her head to the side and grinned. “I heard you almost died,” she chirped and made her way inside the chamber. She noted the pillows on the floor and how one of them was already torn.
I braced myself. If she’s Lance’s cousin, then she is equally dangerous. Perhaps she read the expression on my face that she raised both her arms.
“I am not going to hurt you,” she said and took a step back and leaned on the wall.
“Are you like him?” I asked and she raised a brow.
“Him? Do you mean Lance?” She let out a grimace and added, “Heavens, no. I am not a prick as you keep on calling him and most importantly, I am not an arrogant asshole.”
I blinked at her and she laughed. “My cousin can be too arrogant for the people’s liking but he‘ good.”
This time, I did not hide my disapproval.
She cleared her throat. “Yeah, maybe it’s too early for you to agree on that.”
“He’s an asshole.”
“That, I agree.”
I could not stop the smile that curved my lips but as soon as I realized it. I cleared my throat. Lance and anyone in his circle is not to be trusted. I can’t be too comfortable.
“My name’s Milburn. Just call me Millie.” She angled her head, waiting for me to speak
“M–my name’s Eleanor.”
Her smile was like the sunshine. Too bright for this place. Her auburn hair cascaded freely and her smile was too contagious.
“I’ve heard a lot of things about you,” she said and then came closer. I did not realize I let my guard down. Before I knew it, she already hooked her arm against mine and practically dragged me out of the chamber.
“Join me for breakfast,” she said. There was no room for me to decline so I let her drag me to the dining.
The breakfast table was filled with different foods. Very different from the table where I sat the night before. I could not see the maids that served me the other night but I saw another familiar figure already lounging on one of the seats.
Chapter 9
His eyes darted in our direction and I noted how his eyes raked me from head to toe.
It was the man who entered that day I threw Lance a figurine. The man I accidentally hit.
As if he, too, recalled the memory, a grin flashed across his face.
“Nice morning today, isn’t it?” he said and I swallowed hard. I felt bad for hitting him accidentally but I kept on thinking that this man was one of Lance’s inner circle. Therefore, he’s no different than him. He probably deserved it.
“You’ve been really interesting, Eleanor,” he said and stood. His blond hair shone against the too–bright sunshine coming in through the glass window. His smile was like that of Millie but there was a hint of mischief beneath his. One thing I know is that I can never be too comfortable with this guy.
“You missed the fun yesterday, Mill,” he said as he sat back down. I pulled my chair and bit my lip as I settled as well. I could feel his gaze burning in my direction.
“What fun? What happened?” Millie asked.
“Well, she whooped your cousin’s ass,” he answered and then added, “With a figurine
Millie looked at me with wide eyes before she tipped her head back and laughed. “Lance? Got whooped with a figurine?”
The man nodded, still smiling in my direction. Aren’t they going to reprimand me for doing that? After all, it was the Alpha King we were talking about. I threw a figurine to the Alpha King’s head. Shouldn’t they be…protective?
I remembered in my pack how they protect the Alpha. How even one malicious glance would grant. one a severe punishment.
But instead, these two look like they would have laughed their ass out if they saw what happened. Millie slammed her palm on the table as she kept on laughing. When she finally calmed down, she was wiping her eyes.
“Too bad I did not see that,” she said. “He must have been so pissed.”
“He was, the man answered and then smiled at me. “My name’s Sylas. Nice to meet you officially. Eleanor.
