Chapter 291 My Wife Is Strict
If it were anyone else, David wouldn’t have called to disrupt Lucian’s date with Calista.
But Lucian had been concerning himself with the Jacquez family’s affair lately. Even the recent collaboration was facilitated by him relaxing the requirements.
Lucian frowned before calmly speaking. “Where are they now?”
“They’ve just arrived at the airport. I sent a chauffeur to give them a lift…”
“Good. Have a reservation for a restaurant made and send me the address.”
After hanging up the phone, he turned to Calista with eyes tinged with regret.
“I’m afraid we won’t have time for dinner today. Do you want to head up to take a look at the property? If
you don’t like it, I’ll take you somewhere else next time.”
At the end of the day, the property would belong to Lucian. It didn’t matter whether she liked it or not.
“You seem busy. I’ll just hail a ride.”
Calista had only taken one step out of the car. But Lucian stood close with no intention of letting her out.
She couldn’t get out.
She looked up and shot the man a questioning look. She didn’t understand what the man wanted when he
neither got out of her way nor expressed his stance.
There were a few seconds of silence before he closed the door that had been thrown open.
Til drop you off.”
When he said he would drop her off, he dropped her off. He had even seen her to her door.
“I’ll be a little busy and likely won’t have time to come pester you. Be a good girl. Make sure to stay away
from Paul and Hector. Oh, and Liam too.”
Even though Liam was a bodyguard, Lucian wasn’t happy about the man following her around every day,
Ever since their divorce, Calista’s life had only grown more Interesting. As she grew in popularity, the
number of men surrounding her also grew in number. Lucian’s handsome face turned dark.
When are you going to unblock my number?
Calista looked up. Her eyes were filled with a layer of radiance.
“I don’t think there’s any reason for us to stay in touch. You can stay put on my block list.”
In that instant, it was as if he could see the vibrant young girl of the past asking him to deliver a letter to Paul. Her eyes glittered like stars.
While he was in a daze, the door slammed shut with a resounding bang. If Lucian hadn’t been quick on the uptake, he would’ve ended up in the hospital.
As he heard the fading sound of her footsteps, the man’s throat bobbed with a soft, barely audible
When Lucian arrived, the Jacquez family had been left waiting for a while. The person responsible for the
project negotiations, Jean Jacquez, was the one who showed up.
He was a stocky man who wasn’t very tall. He was dressed in a suit made out of cotton and linen. He immediately got to his feet the moment Lucian stepped in. Jean reached out for a handshake.
“I apologize for being late. I was stuck in traffic.”
Jean smiled warmly. At first glance, he seemed like a good man who wasn’t very aggressive. He was
“That’s understandable. We were stuck in traffic for quite a while after leaving the airport. It was us who sprung this surprise visit on you. We arrived earlier than the agreed date _”
He then turned his attention to the woman next to him to introduce her.
“Vivian, this is the president of the Northwood Corporation. Mr. Northwood, this is my daughter, Vivian.”
Despite it being a dinner hosted in their honor and not a formal occasion, it was intriguing for him to bring
his daughter along.
Generally, this only happened when there were intentions of marriage. It was an opportunity for the pair to
get to know one another.
Vivian stood up elegantly and gracefully. She was dressed in a long, wine–red dress that gave off a subtle
sense of sensuality.
But, barely any skin was shown at all. It didn’t detract from her status as a daughter to a wealthy man.
She covered her chest with one hand to avoid embarrassing herself as she leaned over. She held out her
hand to Lucian
“It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Northwood.”
The woman’s fingers were slender and well–proportioned. The lines on her palm were barely visible. Her
skin was fair and delicate.
It was clear to see that she had put a lot of effort into maintaining them. Even the curvature of her nails.
Lucian looked at her outstretched hand but made no effort to take it. He simply nodded in greeting.
“It’s nice to meet you.”
David, as a peacemaker, shook Vivian’s hand.
“There were talks that Mr. Jacquez’s daughter is the most beautiful woman in Apthon. You indeed live up
to that reputation.
Vivian was a femme fatale. With a raise of her brow and a curl in her lips, it was clear that she was
“Do you not want to shake my hand, Mr. Northwood?”
Her words were finely balanced in both tone and expression. Any less and she would sound tasteless.
Pushing any harder would make her sound annoying. If it were a different man in Lucian’s place, they
would’ve eagerly shaken her hand.
Unfortunately, it was a futile struggle with a straight–laced guy like the president of the Northwood.
Out of fear of Lucian saying something that would get on their nerves, David quickly cut in.
This is all just a misunderstanding, Ms. Jacquez. Mr. Northwood has always refrained from physical
contact with women.”
Lucian calmly added, “I apologize; my wife can be strict about these things. She doesn’t like it when I
smell another woman’s perfume.”
He still remembered how he had traded in his Bentley for a Maybach.
David was speechless as thoughts ran through his head. There was indeed truth to his words, But,
Even an old woman living in a rural area would know of Calista dumping him by now. He was even crucified online for his lack of vigor when performing.
Vivian, of course, laughed. She didn’t tear through his lies but her expression conveyed her disbelief.
“I didn’t think a man as outstanding as you would be afraid Mr. Northwood.”
Jean interjected at the right moment and steered the conversation back to business.
Lucian had mentioned that he would be busy in the coming days and wouldn’t have time to pester her.
Calista hadn’t paid much attention then. But in the following week, she hadn’t seen hide nor hair him.
She hadn’t yet removed him from her blacklist. Without his calls or messages, it was as if he had vanished from the face of the earth. Yara invited her to hang out that day.
In a serene and elegant tea room, a tea master gracefully brewed tea as soft, classical music played in
Calista felt a little lethargic and leaned against the backrest. Her posture was anything but graceful.
“When did you develop such a romantic hobby? Why are you inviting me for tea in a place like this?”
Yara held a delicate tea cup as thin as a cicada’s wing as she leaned halfway across the table. She looked far from elegant and seemed completely out of place in the tea room. She tilted her head.
There was some hesitation before she finally asked hesitantly. “How are you and Lucian doing lately? Is
he still trying to woo you?”
“Probably not,” Calista said.
It had been a week since they last had any contact with each other, Lucian had probably lost interest.
Calista indeed had him blocked. But, if Lucian truly wanted to reach out to her, he would find a way.
Yara sighed in relief.
That’s good to hear.”
Seeing how her friend was acting, Calista asked out of curiosity, “What’s wrong?”
