Chapter 290 Following You Around
As Lucian’s tone slowed, the gentlemanly and dignified way he held himself as a scion became more obvious. He also carried himself with some nonchalance.
“Or, would you like to leave on foot with two cars following behind you?”
Calista held her breath and shot him a glare.
“Are you crazy? Do you want to give me a lift that badly?”
The man gave her a mirthless smirk.
“That’s not necessarily the case.”
Alright, she knew what was going on. The two men had been competing in secret. And, she was being
used as a bargaining chip
“I drove here. I don’t…” she started.
Calista didn’t need Lucian’s help. They were free to follow her if they wanted.
Her mother’s murderer was a member of the Jacquez family from Apthon. She had already butted heads with a giant. Why would she be afraid of a human?
However, before she could finish, David, who had appeared out of nowhere, cut her off.
“Allow me to help drive your car back for you, Madam Calista.”
Calista was rendered speechless. The enraged Hector sneered.
*Just because you force your employees to refer to her as ‘Madam‘ doesn’t negate the fact that the two of
you are already divorced.”
He turned his attention to Calista, his expression serious.
“Let’s talk, Calista.
Calista thought about it and shook her head.
“Everything that had to be said has already been said. There’s no point in rehashing our discussion.
Patricia had mentioned that Hector had gotten into a conflict with his family because of her. Calista had
no idea. That was the way things had always been

To hammer her point home, Calista decided to hitch a ride with Lucian.
“Let’s go.”
The car drove out of the museum’s parking lot. Calista had been inclining her head since she fastened her seatbelt. She stared at the rearview mirror in a daze. It was as if nothing could lift her spirits.
As the car pulled away, Hector’s towering figure grew smaller and smaller.
Lucian’s lips were pressed into a thin line. His grip on the steering wheel tightened; the veins on the back
of his hand were bulging from the strain.
“What’s wrong? Do you miss him that badly? It’s not too late for you to go back.”
It wasn’t as if she were reluctant to part with Hector. After all, she never thought of him in that way.
Perhaps he simply wasn’t her type.
They had known each other since they were teenagers and had always been friends. Calista never
considered it at all.
Or perhaps she had known from the start that the Calloways would never accept a woman like her with nothing to her name to marry Hector. It would’ve been her second marriage.
Of course, they wouldn’t be happy to encounter a situation like that.
Calista was left in a trance–like state until Lucian’s voice pulled her back into focus. When she turned to look at him, the confusion and frustration in her eyes hadn’t yet disappeared.
“Pull over.”
When she got into Lucian’s car, she hadn’t wanted him to give her a ride. Now that the car had left the museum with Hector nowhere in sight, she could take a taxi home…
Lucian’s eyes darkened with icy rage when he noticed her reaching for the door handle. He slammed his foot into the gas pedal, causing the car that had been moving at a constant speed to accelerate.
The car dashed forward with a resounding roar.
After Calista got into Lucian’s car and left, Hector soon followed. Back in the museum, Teresa stepped
out from behind a pillar.

Seeing that Lucian had no intention of stopping, Calista closed her eyes and turned her head toward the window. It was clear she refused to talk.
He stroked the top of her head. He sounded helpless.
“Why are you so angry? You don’t see me upset that you’re grieving for another man in my car.”
Calista shifted away the moment he touched her. The man’s warm hand slipped from her head. Even with her eyes closed, Lucian’s displeasure was palpable. But, he restrained himself.
Neither of them spoke another word. Calista made a rough estimate of how long it would take to get to
her apartment and took a short nap.
When she came to, she noticed that the car had stopped. She was greeted by the sight of an unfamiliar neighborhood the moment she opened her eyes. She looked around.
“Where are we?”
The car was currently parked near a neighborhood community park.
Judging by the housing and the facilities in the community, it was clear that these were high–end properties. The neighborhood housed the affluent. Lucian told her the name of the neighborhood.
Calista had a vague recollection of her coworkers cracking jokes.
There were claims made about how they would never be able to afford a washroom in the neighborhood even if they spent their next lifetime working themselves to the bone.
It was a conversation she heard in passing. She had no plans of buying a house. Even if she did, she
would never consider real estate as unattainable as this.
She didn’t think she would be so lucky to see what the lavish neighborhood looked like.
Why did you bring me here?”
They were here to pick out marital property. However, Lucian kept that to himself. He didn’t want Calista
to bristle and leave The man killed the engine and set the gear back to its neutral position.
You didn’t want to return to the Everglade Manor. So, let’s pick out a new place.

Of course, Calista didn’t want to live at the Everglade Manor. But it had nothing to do with the home. She
turned to Lucian.
“Have you considered that housing isn’t as important as the people who live inside? Swap out the offending person and I would be more than happy to set up shop in the washroom.”
There was no change in the man’s expression. He showed no signs of being displeased at all.
“I’ve considered that. But I’m not a fan of that idea. So, we can just get a house.”
There was a tinge of amusement in his eyes.
“No matter how much you don’t like something, you’ll get used to it sooner or later. The same goes for
people.”
Calista had been rendered speechless. She was almost impressed by his shameless display.
Seeing how she refused to budge from her seat, Lucian didn’t bother prodding her. He instead went
around the back to take out a bag of groceries from the trunk.
Despite carrying a plastic bag from the supermarket, he still looked as if he were carrying the latest
seasonal collection from a famous brand.
It was a blessing to be born such a good–looking man with charisma to back it up. He opened the door to
the passenger seat. Calista fell silent as she studied the fresh leafy greens.
“So, you went all the way out there to pick me up and went to all that trouble just to prepare a meal?””
“Not really. We can have meals wherever we want.”
If food from restaurants was unhealthy, there were still private chefs who could prepare home–cooked
meals.
“I want to court you, Calista. This time, we do it your way.”
“Can I say no?”
“Of course. But my attempts at courting you and your rejection of my advances have little to do with each other, Lucian explained rationally. “If I stopped just because of your rejection, I wouldn’t be following you around all the time. Am I right?
Calista was at a loss for words, She had severely underestimated how thick–skinned the man was. Lucian’s phone started to ring. He took it out and checked the caller ID. It was David. E
