Chapter 233 Push Me Off
Both Paul and Hector followed after Lucian dragged Calista away. Cade got up. He and Paul were friends. Stopping him wasn’t an option. But, it was still possible for him to stall Hector. 1
So, he took a step forward and stood in Hector’s way. He smiled politely. Even his expression seemed
courteous.
“Can we talk, Mr. Calloway?”
Hector narrowed his eyes. His head was casually cocked to one side as he grinned.
“Sure. What do you want to talk about? Cammie?”
Cade stared at him. Compared to his previous demeanor, he was now acting noticeably colder.
“What did you just call her?”
“Cammie. The Yorksworths and Calloways are family friends. We visit each other during holidays and special occasions. I was the one to help her get acquainted with Capeton when she was first brought
home to the Yorksworth family.”
Cade didn’t know this. The Carters and Yorksworths shared a good relationship. But the Calloways
weren’t part of the same circle.
Moreover, Hector had left for the military academy right out of college. He was rarely around. Perhaps the
elders knew each other but the younger generation were unfamiliar with one another.
They couldn’t even be considered acquaintances.
Hector raised a brow.
“So, what can I help you with, Mr. Brother–in–law?”
The term “brother–in–law‘ pleased Cade. His expression warmed as he took a step back.
“It’s nothing. I just wanted to tell you that you should hurry. I don’t think Lucian took Calista to the City
Hall.”
Midway through Hector’s pursuit, Paul returned with a stormy expression. It was rare to see a gentleman like him show such an unpleasant expression.
“What’s going on?”
Paul didn’t answer him and walked straight toward another exit.
Hector looked at the closed door before him and followed Paul without hesitation. After they went around the front from the back entrance, he finally understood why Paul had doubled back.
There was a metal U–shaped lock hanging around the ornate door handles. It didn’t take a genius to guess who had put it there. Lucian was such a piece of shit!
There was not a soul to be found in the parking lot after the delay. Paul was giving Calista a call.
A snippet of a hit pop single began to play in the dead silent car. It was Calista’s phone. She was lucky to have worn her coat because she felt cold when she entered the lobby. Her phone was in her pocket.
As soon as she saw the name displayed on the screen, a hand reached out from her side, snatched her phone, and tossed it out of the open window. 1
It shot across her field of vision and rolled soundlessly into the bushes by the roadside.
Calista stared at her phone that disappeared into the shrubs and yelled at the man beside her, “Pull over,
Lucian!”
She hadn’t been the one who bought the phone. But it took her a long time to set it up with her preferred
settings. Besides, she tried to pay him. He was the one who refused to accept the money.
Lucian remained unaffected. He was unmoved by her words.
“I’ll get you a new one once we’re out of here.”
He turned to Calista and cut her off with a wry smile before she could say a word.
“Two phones after the divorce? It’s better to just have one, don’t you think?”
She cursed at him internally and looked up at the winding mountain highway ahead.
“Is the City Hall up the mountain?”
Lucian pursed his lips.
There was a brief moment of silence before he spoke reluctantly, “Remarriage requires both parties to agree to it.”
So, he did understand how the law worked.
“Why are you takes.
up the mountain?” The trees grew increasingly taller. “Are you so angry that you’re going to commit murder and dispose of my body here?”
He was so irritated that it brought pain to his chest.
But he kept his composure and said stiffly, “The weather station reported that there’s going to be a total lunar eclipse at 8:25 pm tonight. There’s an observation deck at the mountaintop with a good view and high elevation. It used to be a popular spot for astronomy enthusiasts.”
But now, not many people visit the area anymore. It was simply too far out and there were more suitable
places to go to now.”

Calista wasn’t one for moon viewing. She had no interest in a so–called astrological wonder. She could consider it a romantic experience if she went with a boyfriend or a husband.

“We’re husband and wife. So, why not? It’s not as if we’re having an affair.”
“Ex–husband and wife,” Calista corrected him.
“Ex–husband and wife are still husband and wife, no?”
She was rendered speechless.
Lucian parked his car halfway up the mountain. They had to continue on foot down a beaten path to
reach the observation deck.
People rarely came here, making it deserted and filled with potholes everywhere.
Calista looked up but all she could see were trees. As for the observation deck Lucian mentioned, there was no trace of it in sight.
“I’m not interested in moon watching.”
“I am.”
He held her hand. There was something sad in his cold voice.
‘I’ll drop you off once after we’re done here. You can continue with your team–building event tomorrow.”
Lucian looked down and firmly held her hand. Their palms were pressed closed together and their fingers interlocked.
“Who knows? Keep me happy and I won’t bother you again.”
Calista fell silent. It was a tempting offer. Seeing how her eyes wavered, Lucian felt a mixture of bitterness and regret. He couldn’t give a damn about solar or lunar eclipses.
But Cade had mentioned tonight’s total lunar eclipse on their way here. He suggested that Lucian could bring Calista along. Women were romantic creatures.
This astrological spectacle was a rare and unattainable miracle. It was far more stunning than fireworks and lanterns. Women were more likely to be shaken up by phenomena like that.
Perhaps she would be so shaken up that she’d agree to get back together again. 2
The mountain path was rocky. Since this had been a spontaneous decision, no hiking equipment had
been prepared.
As Lucian looked at the seemingly endless mountain road ahead, he recalled his conversation with Cade
back in the car.
“This is the perfect opportunity. Why don’t
you bring Cameron along? Maybe her brain will experience a
short circuit and she would agree to a reconciliation.”
Cade wasn’t interested at all.
“Forget it. It’s a steep mountain. I don’t want her pushing me off.”
Pushing him off? He was just too lazy to go on a hike. Calista usually spent her days in the office and lacked exercise. And now she was forced to hike up a mountain.
Fortunately, it was a pleasant place to be and her interest had been piqued. She scanned the trees around
them.
“They won’t be wild animals out here, right?”
“Weasels.”
They wouldn’t be wild animals in a forest that had already been developed as a vacation resort. After an hour of walking later, Calista finally saw the so–called observation deck..
