Chapter 216 Does It Still Hurt
Tears streamed down Calista’s cheeks as she blinked her eyes in the car.
Just a moment ago, something had fallen into her eyes, and she had spent quite a while looking for it in
the mirror but couldn’t find it.
Calista tried wiping it away with a tissue, but the sensation of having something in her eye didn’t subside, even when the area around her eyes turned red.
In the end, Lucian couldn’t take it any longer and forcibly turned her face toward him.
His warm breath brushed against her face as he leaned in, and she could see his sensual lips as soon as
she opened her eyes.
This scene might have appeared sweet and affectionate to others, but it was nothing but torture to
Calista at the time.
Her complexion wasn’t great as she hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep last night, so she put on a full face of
makeup first thing in the morning.
Calista had forgotten about it when she was rubbing her eyes just now. It hit her when she saw the
eyeshadow and eyeliner on her hands. However, Lucian had already leaned over.
He had been staring at her face for almost five minutes now.
Calista couldn’t help but nudge him and inquired quietly, “Is it gone?”
“Yeah,” he said.
“Does it still hurt?”
Calista blinked and shook her head as she no longer felt any foreign object in her eyes.
Initially, she assumed Lucian would let go of her, but he didn’t. Instead, he leaned in closer. It appeared as though he was about to kiss her. Calista turned away.
“Lily Scott.”
Lucian frowned.
“Do you like her? You call out her name as if you’re thinking about her when you’re kissing me.”
Calista raised her chin slightly, gesturing for him to look across the street.

Your old flame looks like she’s about to cry. Are you sure you want to kiss me right in front of her?”
Her tone was lighthearted and playful. It was evident that she was enjoying the show.
He turned around and noticed that Lily was indeed standing across the street, biting her lower lip and
looking at them with teary eyes.
Tears immediately streamed down her cheeks when their eyes met, as if she had suddenly found her rock.
Calista could see her face as the street wasn’t wide.
“Tsk, look at the way she cries. Lily would be the go–to leading lady for a telenovela back in the day. Tears. stream down her cheeks so smoothly. She’s crying her eyes out, yet she still looks stunning.”
Lucian glanced at her.
“So, you’re saying all this because you’re jealous that she cries more gracefully than you?”
He returned to his seat and rolled up the car window.
“You don’t look good when you cry, but I don’t mind. There’s no need to be so hard on yourself.”
Calista scoffed, ‘That’s because you’re blind.”
Lucian didn’t respond; instead, he drew down the sun visor and met her eyes, which had been smudged into a blurry mess by her tears.
The weather wasn’t scorching hot these days, and she wouldn’t sweat from a day of work, so she didn’t use professional waterproof makeup.
Plus, she had rubbed her eyes earlier, which was why she looked so unsightly now.
He arched his brow.
“Is that so?”
Ignoring him, she pulled out makeup removal wipes and wiped her face. Lucian made a U–turn and drove past Lily without stopping
Calista glanced at the rearview mirror and met Lily’s resentful gaze.
Meanwhile, at Luminary Lounge.
Paul went back Inside after finishing his business meeting and seeing the other party off. He couldn’t be
He was already feeling tipsy earlier, he could barely hold himself together after a couple of shots. He used his hand to support his head and closed his eyes to take a nap.
Deafening rock music was playing in the background and women dressed provocatively were jazz
dancing on the stage.
Everyone was pumped up by the aroma of alcohol combined with women’s perfume in the air.
TH
“Paul!”
A familiar voice pierced through the music and reached his ears.
Paul opened his eyes slowly and noticed that Lily was standing in front of him. She was dressed in a
black, form–fitting dress and wore only a watch on her wrist.
Her graceful figure, honed by years of dancing, made her stand out in a crowd of women who were
heavily made up and dressed provocatively.
Lily took a seat beside him.
“Are you drowning your sorrows because you’re upset that Calista has been getting closer to Lucian
lately?”
he had asked
Ever since she ran into Lucian and Calista together outside in front of Baker Group, she
someone to keep an eye on them.
Lily found out that Lucian would definitely be there whenever Calista went to Baker Group.
Paul frowned.
“What are you trying to say?”
Lily smiled as she approached him with a white pill in her hand. Her voice was low and seductive as she said, “Lucian and Calista wouldn’t have gotten married if they hadn’t slept together. Have you ever thought that you would be the one marrying her if it was you who slept with her?”
Paul looked at her, or perhaps he was looking at the pill in her hand. His eyes were pitch–black as if he was lost in thought.
“Everything is back to square one now that those two are divorced. Calista will be yours if you can get her to take this pill. Then, everyone will address her as Mrs. Baker, instead of Mrs. Northwood in the future.”
Silence ensued after she said that. Despite the noise in the background, there was profound silence
between them.
Noticing his silence, she continued to provoke him, “Calista doesn’t love you anymore, Paul, or perhaps she had never loved you in the first place. Those seemingly affectionate actions were nothing more than a form of admiration for someone outstanding during her teenage years. This is your only chance. Are you sure you don’t want it?”
Paul was well aware that Calista’s eyes were devoid of any affection when she looked at him. Lily was right. This might be his only chance; his only chance to have her.
He reached out and took the pill from her hand. Lily smiled as she had achieved her goal.
“Calista is also in Luminary Lounge right now; she’s in room 309. Doesn’t this mean that even God thinks you two are a match made in heaven?”
Meanwhile, on the third floor of Luminary Lounge, room 309. There were three other women besides Calista, all of whom were her college roommates.
The girls went their separate ways after graduation, with two returning to their hometowns for career opportunities and one moving to Marinport.
This gathering was a rare occasion for them. Hence, the girls made plans to meet at Luminary Lounge for
a drink.
Skye
kye Hansen, the most sentimental of them, said, “I thought we’d never see each other again in this lifetime. After all, the four of us are spread out in all four directions–north, south, east, and west. This is the first time we’ve all gotten together since graduation, so we mustn’t leave until we’re dead drunk.”
Calista was well aware that she didn’t handle alcohol well, so she had always been rather restrained.
“You three go ahead. I’ll stay sober and take you all to the hotel. We can’t all get drunk and lie here like
corpses, can we?”
Kay Carlson added, “What’s the big deal? Isn’t Luminary Lounge considered the safest club in Capeton?
Besides, the hotel we booked is right upstairs. We can just ask the waitresses to take us up later.”
Luminary Lounge was relatively safe, but it was powerless in the face of the powerful.
Calista didn’t say anything as it would dampen the mood. However, she had made up her mind not to get drunk, so she avoided their toasts whenever possible.
Emma Greene, who had been silent the whole time, shook her head and poured Calista a drink.
I’m a little tipsy, Calista. Let’s slip away after we finish this drink. We can come back down to collect Skye and Kay after they’re drunk.”
