Chapter 74 Mr. Northwood Has Been Cheated On
Mr. Xanders laughed uncomfortably, “Don’t be ridiculous, there’s no such thing! I’m just giving you a break because I’ve seen how you have been because of the filming and the exhibition. I just wanted you to take a break. You’re still young so you don’t have to work yourself to the bone. Your health is much more important than your work!”
Now that Mr. Xanders had said that, there was no reason for Calista to insist that he was being threatened.
Besides, even if he wasn’t willing to admit it, she had a faint inkling regarding the real reason why she was being given a break.
She connected the dots between her sudden break and the warning that Lucian had given her before he left this morning. If she didn’t make the connection between the two then she really would be a fool!
She hung up and let out an annoyed exhale.
Nikolette was still sarcastically mumbling in a corner, “Oh, did you get fired?”
Calista frowned and turned to look at her distastefully.
“Why are you still here?”
“This is a public place, I don’t need your permission to be here.”
Before Nikolette had finished her sentence, Calista had already left. Nikolette was annoyed, she had been nothing but vicious to Calista, but Calista couldn’t even care less!
Calista called for a taxi and called Lucian. The dial tone droned on for over a minute and yet Lucian didn’t pick up.
She didn’t try to call him again after that. He had left her house in such a terrible mood this morning so she had expected that he wouldn’t pick up her calls.
Whatever. Since Mr. Xanders was so adamant that she take a break, then she would. She could
take this time to buy a car as well.
With a car, it would be much easier for her to commute. Now that she thought about it, she should’ve just taken the car that she regularly drove when she moved out.

She planned to go to look for a new car the next day but didn’t expect her plans to get foiled that night Calista had just finished ordering takeout for dinner when she heard someone at her door.
The landlady’s voice also rang out from outside her door, “Calista, are you in? If you are, open the door. I have something to tell you.”
Calista’s heart dropped at that and she walked over to open the door.
“Is there something wrong?” she asked.
Besides the landlady, there were two men outside of her door.
The landlady’s smile was apologetic as she said, “Here’s the issue, Calista. I’ve been having some financial problems and need money desperately so I’ve had to sell your unit and I can’t rent this unit to you anymore.”
Her voice grew gradually meek as she spoke and at the end, she couldn’t even look Calista in the eye. In the end, she was the one at fault as Calista had signed a two–year contract with her.
Calista fought to keep her temper in check as she asked, “When do you plan on selling it?”
The landlady pointed at one of the middle–aged men with her.
“I have the buyer here with me. If he thinks it’s appropriate, we can sign the contract tonight.”
She was forcing Calista to move!
Calista’s expression was frosty as she said, “I’m so sorry. As a single woman, I can’t just allow a man to enter my house. If you keep knocking, I’ll call the police.”
After that, she immediately shut the door in their faces. She walked back into her living room and grabbed her phone on the sofa to call Lucian.
This time, Lucian picked up but he didn’t say anything and simply waited for her to speak.
Calista was not one to back down and immediately yelled, “Lucian, are you even still a man? It was just a slap! Do you have to get me suspended from work and persuade my landlady to sell my house? I used to think that you were just a terrible person. Just somebody who would insist that they love someone but go for someone else instead. However, I never would’ve expected that you would be even worse than trash! How could you just go behind my back like that you motherfucker!”
Once she had started oncol.

Calista lived in a small area and her neighbors could hear everything especially since her landlady was shouting like a mad woman outside. Calista was furious and she took it all out on Lucian
“If you keep forcing me into a corner like this, I’ll just go look for a random man to sleep with and let the whole world know that you’ve been cheated on!”
She was getting increasingly desperate and she babbled on, “Didn’t you say that you don’t care if I like your friend? If you keep doing this to me, I’ll go seduce Cade and act like a loving couple with him in front of you every single day!”
That was enough to elicit a reply from Lucian who had stayed silent the entire time.
“Cade would never like someone like you,” he replied coldly.
“Hah! Back then when I brought up Lily, you didn’t even have such a response. Maybe you’re actually into men!”
After that, Calista hung up the phone angrily.
On the other end of the phone at Northwood Corporation, Lucian sat silently. He had never been yelled at like that before in his life.
David didn’t even need to look at Lucian, the anger radiating off Lucian in waves was enough to make the temperature in the office drop by a few degrees.
David shuddered. Slap. Terrible person. Worse than trash. Motherfucker. As a mere assistant, he felt as if he shouldn’t have heard that conversation at all.
Luckily, it wasn’t only him and Lucian in the office. There was also a woman on the couch who had practically curled into herself.
She was a waitress at the restaurant that Paul and Lucian were at that day. Back then, when the recording was exposed, it had brought with it an outroar of criticism online and they had even exposed the personal information about the woman in the recording online as well.
She was afraid that she would be implicated so she quit. In the past three years, she had lived her life peacefully and had even started to gradually forget about that incident in the first place.
She hadn’t expected someone to come looking for her regarding the events from that day was how she had ended up here.

That year, the news had gotten quite out of hand, and though she had never met Lucian in person, just looking at his face made her remember that he was also part of the recording.
“Talk.”
Lucian’s face was flawless and expressionless. It seemed as if he didn’t care that he had just been yelled at over the phone. The woman paused for a while before she realized that he was talking to her.
She raised her head to look at Lucian who was glaring at her. She stiffened up almost immediately and denied any involvement in the matter.-
“I don’t know anything. I’m just a waitress. That day, I was in charge of the first floor so I don’t know anything that happened in the rooms.”
David didn’t need to wait for Lucian’s orders and plopped a large stack of printed papers in front of her. The woman lowered her gaze and she blanched.
Beads of sweat formed on her forehead and she started trembling uncontrollably as she stammered, “I …”
“Think twice before you say anything,” Lucian warned mildly.
She felt as if she were held at gunpoint and all her excuses to deny her involvement were stuck in her throat.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I didn’t think it would get so out of hand.”
The stack of printed papers in front of her clearly showed the messaging history between her and her friends that day.
That day she had been feeling quite bored so she glanced at the security camera recording and just so happened to catch Calista ‘proposing‘ to Paul.
Back then, she had looked down on Calista for stooping so low for a man and had even considered her as a sorry excuse for a woman.
As such, she had taken a recording and sent it to her best friends to make fun of. However, she hadn’t expected the recording to end up on the internet.

Right now, she studied Lucian’s expression cautiously, and when she saw how cold his gaze was.
she hastily added, “It wasn’t me that sent that video to the media‘ I only sent it to a few friends !!
you don’t believe me you can check!”
Lucian’s expression was dark.
“A few friends?”
The woman nodded hastily as if she was about to burst into tears from fright. Lucian ignored her
and turned to look at the clouds in the sky as if he were deep in thought.
