Chapter 311 You’ll Have to Pay For Asking a Favor
Lucian looked at her. His elegant aura was not a single bit diminished by the fact that he was wearing
casual clothes.
“Do you need anything from him?”
“Yeah,” Calista replied, “I’d like him to help my friend’s brother with his lawsuit.”
“Is it Yara?”
She didn’t have a lot of friends, let alone friends that would make her go out this late.
“What’s his case?”
“Self–defense, but the other party wants to charge him with intentional assault”
Lucian raised his brows.
“He doesn’t handle criminal cases.”
Timothy was known for economic lawsuits, especially for winning cases when all odds were against him. After this, a lot of wealthy people came to him for economic law cases.
When this happened very often, everyone would just regard him as a lawyer who specializes in economic
law cases.
After becoming the head of the legal department at Northwood Corporation, he rarely dealt with other
types of cases.
Calista frowned. Things were getting complicated. It was hard for her to request Timothy to help out
when he didn’t even handle those kinds of cases.
“What if you ask him?”
Lucian immediately loosened up. As he smiled, his looks became more dazzling.
“Do you want me to help?”
Calista pursed her lips and looked at him. “Will you?”
Lucian furrowed his brows, and said calmly. “He has shares in Northwood Corporation, so technically speaking, we’re just partners. If he doesn’t accept this case, there’s no way for me to force him into it, isn’t it? it’s not the old feudal society anymore, he has the right to refuse.”
He smiled at her teasingly. Again, he was behaving nonchalantly. Calista felt like he was trying to lead her
“Isn’t a criminal case more challenging than a divorce case? It’s easier for him to spread his reputation too with that much public attention.”
“And it’s also easy for him to get beaten up,” said Lucian calmly. “After all, the ones who lost the case will most often end up in jail or be at a great disadvantage. There’ll always be some of them who are easily. fired up and aren’t afraid of getting involved in collateral responsibilities.”
Calista furrowed her brows as she stared at her. Coldness flickered across her face.
“Jamie is the victim now. Not only did they bully his girlfriend, but they ganged up on him, even going to
the extent of harassing her right in front of him. No man can bear this situation. If he wins the lawsuit, it’s
bound to be. Why would the other party still have the audacity to think that they’re at a loss and seek
revenge?”
“If they didn’t have the audacity, they wouldn’t have done something like this also.”
Calista was at a loss for words. He made a lot of sense and she couldn’t rebuke him. She shot him an annoyed glare and was about to turn away from him.
Lucian sighed and grabbed her when she was about to leave.
“Can’t you be more patient? I didn’t say I wasn’t going to help. But this can’t be done with just a few words. At the very least, can’t you let me in so we can talk about it?”
Calista pondered for a while and finally decided to let him enter. She wasn’t that naive to think that she would succeed in seducing Timothy when even Yara failed to do so.
She wasn’t close with Timothy and they rarely spoke to each other.
Her familiar scent filled the room. The bed hadn’t been made, and her clothes for tomorrow were hung on
a hanger. Her light–colored suitcase was placed vertically in a corner.
The furnishing for all the guest rooms in Everglade Manor was all the same. All the furniture was exquisitely luxurious, like an uncomfortable showroom.
But now, simply because Calista moved in, Lucian could no longer feel the uncomfortableness. He sat down on the couch and bounced about for a bit.
He concluded, “Yeah, it’s more comfortable than the one in the master bedroom.”
Calista tentatively suggested, “Or would you like to change?”
Lucian raised his eyebrows and said playfully. “Callie, do you don’t know or are you faking it? There’s a price for you to pay if you ask for a favor. I can make Timothy accept Yara’s case, but in return, I have my
“What is it?”
Calista could already quess without his clarification. She just wanted to confirm whether he was indeed a
gentleman and she had wronged him.
Lucian leaned back on the couch and said casually, “You’ll have to move to the master bedroom.
Otherwise, I’ll move to this room instead,”
Calista glared at him.
“Don’t you go overboard, Lucian?”
“You have the right to decline,” said Lucian politely as he spread his hands out, showing that he would completely respect her decision.
Looking at her face, which was still flushed with anger, he continued, “I’ll sleep on the couch. I haven’t been sleeping well lately. Except for the night before yesterday, it’s been a long time since I’ve fallen into a deep sleep. So I wanted to try whether it was because of my body or was it because of you.”
“What if you still can’t sleep?”
“Then I’ll have to…”
Lucian paused for a while as his gaze swept across the two–meter-wide bed. Then he lowered his eyes. and covered his emotions.
“Go to the hospital for some medicine.”
Calista thought for a few minutes. In between, she had been idly fiddling with her phone.
“You can come over, but I have to make it clear. You can only sleep on the couch. Whoever crosses the line will be the loser.”
Lucian couldn’t help but let out a laugh. How could there be such an innocent girl? She couldn’t stop him if he wanted to do something to her.
Even a wild beast wouldn’t be able to hold his urges back, let alone a dog.
But he was afraid that he would provoke her again, so he didn’t dare to speak more. He managed to suppress his smile and thoughtfully answered her condition.
Call Timothy now.”
Lucian called Timothy and he wasn’t asleep yet.
“What is it, Mr. Northwood”
Is it possible for you to fish Yara’s brother out of trouble?
Timothy put down his pen.
“I don’t deal with criminal cases. Plus, I’m not free recently too.
When his girlfriend was harassed, he didn’t report to the police. Instead, he chose to confront them right
away
And they fought and he was beaten up because he was outnumbered. He even resorted to stabbing him. So it’s more likely that they’d both be charged with mutual assaul
“If you’re not free, then make time. Hire more assistants if you need more, and let them deal with the preliminary work. You can just show up in court. Will this even tire you out?”
Timothy was having a headache, and it was because he had been too exhausted and lacked sleep.
“Recently, I’ve been in charge of several international merger contracts. And I also have to negotiate the cooperation terms with the Jacquez family. Yet, you still want me to deal with this criminal case. When others pursue women, they deal with their women on their own. Why do you have to get me involved when you’re trying to win your girl over? Is I working my ass to death that amusing for you guys?
Lucian thought for a while and said, “Put aside the Jacquez family’s case first. You get your hands on Yara’s brother first. I’ll get the HR team to hire two more assistants for you tomorrow.”
He then glanced at Calista’s attire.
“Your client isn’t feeling particularly fine now. You go have a look at her, and also get to know more about the situation.”
As soon as he finished his sentence, Timothy hung up the phone right away without saying a single word.
