Chapter 305 I’ll Leave You Alone
It was Vivian who called. And her name saved on Calista’s phone indicated their close relationship. Lucian narrowed his eyes slightly as he saw the caller ID, ‘Vivi‘ flickering on the phone screen.
Calista couldn’t stand his intense glare. As soon as she intended to turn around and answer the call, he grabbed her before she could do so.
He remained silent, but his actions screamed, “Answer the call right here.”
“Hello?”
doft
Vivian sounded genuinely worried from the other end of the call.
“Calista, I’ve heard that you encountered some trouble at the museum yesterday, right? Is Thomas Jefferson sick? Why did he pester you like a lunatic? Even if you messed up the restoration, he should’ve talked to you in private first.”
Given how introverted Calista usually was, she would’ve fallen for Vivian’s seemingly sincere words if she hadn’t investigated her beforehand.
People tend to be more vulnerable when they feel like they’ve been wronged. In that state, a simple word of kindness or concern from someone else would be enough to make them get attached.
On the other end of the phone, Vivian was still speaking up for Calista.
Calista tilted her head and said calmly with an indescribable smile, “I didn’t restore that artifact for it to turn out that way. This matter was already clarified yesterday at the museum.
It went silent on Vivian’s side. It was a short pause, but when Vivian started talking again, nothing.
sounded off.
“Is that so? Then Thomas went overboard. How could he accuse you wrongfully without investigating the
matter?”
She paused for a while and shifted the topic.
“Calista, I heard you applied for leave today. Just right for us to go shopping! I don’t even have any close
friends in Capeton and I’m nearly bored to death recently.
Vivian’s voice was full of anticipation and excitement. She resembled a little girl who could finally go out
after being cooped up at home for too long.
The force Lucien exerted on Calista’s arm increased. It wasn’t painful, but the sensation was evident
The living room was very quiet. Lucian was standing right beside her. So even if she wasn’t on speaker, he could hear what Vivian said. He frowned as he looked at her.
His entire stance screamed, “Don’t go. Don’t say yes
Initially, Calista had not come up with an answer. But now, maybe she was curious about what Vivian was scheming or she deliberately wanted to piss Lucian off, she was about to agree to Vivian’s invitation.
But before she could even mouth, let alone say the word ‘yes‘, Lucian’s lips pressed on hers. He didn’t
pursue any further into the kiss. Instead, his lips were just pressed against hers.
It wasn’t an intense kiss, but just a peck on the lips as their lips touched.
But it was enough for Calista to seal her mouth shut. She dared not speak anymore and pushed Lucian
away with her all might with another hand.
He simply held her hand and pinned it behind her. As he grabbed her waist, he forced her closer into his
arms.
Vivian went silent as well. Although she didn’t see or hear anything, sometimes the silence could be telling.
Calista could no longer stand the uncanny silence. She hung up the phone.
“Lucian, what is wrong with you?”
She sounded fierce, but this was nothing compared to her previous self. Only someone close to her would be able to tell the difference.
Lucian released her and tidied up her messy clothes. He raised his brows
“If you declined right away, or if you listened to me–to not get in touch with her, there wouldn’t be a chance for me to behave like this as well.”
You’ve gotta have some skills to be this thick–faced.”
Lucian smirked. He didn’t rétort.
Instead, he said, “If you want me to leave you alone, then stop getting yourself in danger. It’s already been hard for me to let you go, and it’s simply impossible for me to ignore what’s happened to you. If you don’t live a happy life, I’ll always feel the need to help you. And that makes it even harder for me to leave you

oreased brows, Lucian smiled at he rubbed on them
“How about we make a deal? I’ll go investigate your mom’s matter. You go ahead and live your life to the fullest. Once everything is done and you are indeed living a good life, I’ll leave you alone.”
Lucian had been constantly showing himself in front of her since they got divorced. She had been longing
to cut all ties with him.
When she suddenly heard that he was going to leave her alone, she was over the moon. However, she felt like she didn’t feel as delighted as she’d expected herself to be.
Calista had already believed that Lucian had fallen for her.
She used to work at Northwood Corporation. Although she wasn’t heavily involved in the business, she,
knew how busy he was. It wasn’t an exaggeration to say he was often swamped with work.
However, as an extremely busy man he already was, he’s willing to put time and effort on her. This
continued for almost one year.
He would be an excellent actor if he was putting an act out of pure unwillingness after being dumped.
Although Calista hadn’t thought of being back with him again, she wasn’t as firm as she used to be, Lucian was right—she had softened up. This wasn’t good news to her.
Calista was on alert mode as Lucian tried to negotiate with her.
“What is the standard of living a good life? What if you’re dissatisfied with my kind of good life?”
Lucian gave it a serious thought, then finally answered with a grave expression, “Then you can only follow my standards of living a good life. After all, it makes me uncomfortable when I see you in a miserable state of life. And that makes it impossible for me to leave you alone.”
Calista stared at him indignantly.
“Are you kidding me? Who knew whether you’d say something crazy like ‘your life won’t be perfect without
me.”
This man was really wicked. How in the world did she soften up? Lucian was taken aback. Soon after, he chuckled in a low tone.
“Well, that’s a good idea. I’ll consider that.”
Callsta glared at him in a fit of rage. She turned and left right away. The smile on his face faded as he crabbed her.
Where are you going?
I’m going to meet Yara.”
Only then did Lucian let go of her. When Calista arrived at the shop, Yara was staring blankly out the window. She didn’t even realize Calista had stepped into the shop.
Calists waved her hand in front of Yara.
“What’s wrong? It’s still early in the morning and you seem so restless.”
Yara’s gaze shifted away from the view outside and was fixated on Calista instead. But she still looked
fairly lost. If one were to look closely, one could even see her red–rimmed eyes.
She just didn’t seem right at all. The smile on Calista’s face gradually disappeared.
“What happened? Did you come across anything?”
“Is Lucian still after you? If you let him…” Yara paused for a while and lowered her eyes. “It’s nothing. I just watched an episode earlier on, and both the male and female lead died. I just felt a bit sad, that’s all.”
Given how long Calista had known Yara, she knew something was off.
If Yara was being herself, as someone as bold as she was, she’s not one to cry over some television drama.
She’s even capable of laughing out loud even if all the characters in the episode, let alone just the male and female lead, died. Calista frowned.
“What happened?”
