Chapter 276 Bring You Home
Calista ignored him, turned, and went to the bathroom.
Calista had initially intended to get some information from Liam. However, instead of getting anything useful out of him, she had gotten herself into a predicament.
“I don’t have any room for you here. You’ll have to figure something out.”
Paul’s apartment had a one–bedroom layout, and even if there were extra rooms, she couldn’t possibly let a stranger like Liam, who didn’t know anything about her, move in.
I
“I’m your bodyguard, I have to protect you. How can I do that if I’m not with you every step of the way? I
can sleep on the couch.”
He frowned, realizing that there wasn’t any extra room for him here. Calista didn’t back down at all.
“You can buy a tent and set it up outside. I’m just a business associate with the man you mentioned. I haven’t even seen his face, and I don’t even know if we’re talking about the same person. Do you think, under these circumstances, I can trust someone he hired to stay in my home?”
The mysterious man must be the man they were referring to. Bertha and the two people who contacted
her also referred to him as being anonymous.
But Calista always felt that there must be someone else behind all of this. The person on the third floor of
the villa, was it the mysterious man, or was there someone else?
Calista looked at Liam and said, “Unless you can tell me who the middle–aged man was who was with
you in Aphthon.”
There was no hint of guilt on Liam’s face.
“I don’t know any middle–aged man. I saved you and left, but before I left, I called the police. What you
saw might have been the police.”
He was lying. Calista rolled her eyes and limped to the door to see Liam off.
She had twisted her ankle earlier when she stepped on a piece of broken stone in the parking lot, and it
was now swollen and painful. Liam was here to deceive her.
She didn’t kindly extend an invitation and uttered, “Please leave.”
Outside the door, Lucian was about to knock when the closed door opened.
arm light illuminated the doorway, and Callata’s coquettish voice could be heard. The anger and
melted away, and he couldn’t help but smile.
“You’re taking the initiative this time.”
Calista had been looking at Liam the whole time and hadn’t noticed Lucian outside the door. She was
startled when she heard the sudden voice.
soon as she turned her head, she met Lucian’s handsome face.
As soo
“Why are you here?”
The smile at the corner of Lucian’s lips disappeared with her words.
“You didn’t know I was coming? So who were you talking to just now?”
Liam had a strong presence, sitting conspicuously on the sofa. Lucian only noticed him now.
He hadn’t paid attention earlier because all his thoughts were focused on Calista, leaving no room for anything else. Lucian frowned.
“Who is he?”
During the three years of their marriage, he had never seen her bring strangers home. She always discussed business outside too.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have managed to keep her impressive side business from him throughout their mamage.
Calista was about to speak when Liam got up from the sofa and walked to the door in a few strides. He was tall and had long legs, reaching the door in no time.
7 pick you up tomorrow morning”
He nodded at Lucian
Mr. Northwood.”
After Liam left, Calista looked at Lucian and asked, “What are you here for?”
She felt like she had made herself clear last night. The man’s expression remained cold.
Ta not in a good mood. I came to have a drink with you.”
raised on eyebrow
misheard. Why would Lucian war
Why would a man ask a woman out for drinks with no ulterior motives? Who knew what he might attempt when they were alone together?
Calista scoffed, “Go find Cade for a drink.”
Then, she was about to close the door. Lucian raised his hand to stop her.
“He’s gone abroad. He’ll be away for half a month.”
Calista didn’t know Cade well, and she didn’t have his contact information. Even if she did, she couldn’t
call to confirm.
“In that case, go find David, look for Timothy, or at the very least, spend some money and get a drink somewhere else. Just don’t bother me,” Calista said irritably as she ran her fingers through her hair.
Seeing that Lucian was still blocking the door, she had to resort to a bigger tactic.
“I’m on my period, I can’t drink.”
“Your period is at the end of the month. It’s only the middle of the month now, so you have more than half
a month to go.”
Calista’s period had always been very regular, and she didn’t suffer from menstrual cramps.
She hadn’t expected Lucian to know even this detail, and her face turned bright red in embarrassment.
“You even keep tabs on that? Lucian, are you a pervert?”
Lucian, who had been yelled at for no reason, let out a cold laugh and said, “You’ve been having your period at the same time since we got married. I’m not blind.”
“Yeah, you’re not blind, but you’re blind to what’s in your heart. Otherwise, how could you not see my
efforts for three years?”
“What efforts? Lucian used one hand to prop the door open and squeezed through the door crack.
Ordering takeout for me, cooking soup for Paul, lying in my bed, calling his name while you’re at it? Or getting drunk and repeatedly saying you should have listened to him and not married me?”
Calista was too caught up in his accusations to notice that he had already entered the room.
Those were all before we got married.”
double standards also before we got married? You thought he saved you, so you were
him. You knew I saved you, yet you only said thank you‘ to me. When he lent you three
Calista suspected that Lucian was doing this on purpose, intentionally exaggerating Paul’s role.
“The money I spent on you back then, adding a little more, would be twice what he gave you. But what did you do? No gratitude, no worship. Instead, you kept nagging me for a divorce, and after the divorce, you
couldn’t wait to cut ties with me.”
Lucian rambled on without pause, and he sounded a bit out of breath when he finished.
“Is there any water?”
Calista sneered and turned to walk towards the sofa. She had completely forgotten her initial intention to keep Lucian outside, her mind consumed by anger.
“No, if you want something to drink, try sewage.”
Lucian pursed his lips.
“Don’t be so vulgar. You’re always using such filthy language.”
Calista responded to his criticism sarcastically, “Can’t stand it? Then leave.”
“No, go ahead, I’m listening.”
Lucian casually made his way towards the sofa, making himself comfortable. When he reached the spot where Liam had been sitting just moments ago, he furrowed his brow.
Calista said, “Can you at least have some dignity?”
“If I had dignity, I wouldn’t be trying to win you over.”
After all, anyone could see Calista’s determination to stay away from him.
She vaguely heard a knocking sound, and when she came out, there was a table full of food on the coffee table and a large pile of alcohol on the floor.
There were all sorts of alcohol and even cocktail wines. Calista felt that he wasn’t here to drink with her.
He was probably infuriated with her after being rejected and wanted to murder her with alcohol.
She couldn’t drink more than five bottles of beer. They would need to call an ambulance after they finish
everything.
Lucian sent a message to David, “She’s angry again.”
David replied, “Mr. Northwood, did you say something to upset Mrs. Calista again?”
He could feel his frustration even through the screen. Lucian pursed his lips. If he hadn’t said that, Calista wouldn’t have let him in, and he only stated the truth.
So he replied, “No.”
“Mr. Northwood, we need to learn to compliment others and keep our mouths shut. Can you do that?”
Lucian was speechless. He impatiently tossed his phone aside, and when he turned, he saw Calista
standing at the bedroom door.
He raised his hand to his forehead and asked, “What would you like to drink?”
Calista rolled her eyes.
“Do you want me to drink your blood?”
He thought for a moment and extended his arm.
“Do you need me to clean it?”
She didn’t know if he was straightforward or just clueless. But he had never been like this before, as if he had lost his spirit and seemed a bit down.
Could it be that he had encountered some issues? After some thought, Calista sat down on the sofa. She
afraid that Lucian would drink himself to death here.
crossed her legs casually and asked, “What did you come here for? Don’t tell me you came here to
Lucian opened a bottle of beer and gave it to her. His gaze fixed on her rosy lips. His eyes were dark and intense as if he wanted to read her mind.
“If I said I came here to sleep with you….
“Splash!”
Calista had poured half the bottle of beer down his head. The liquid dripped down his nose and cheeks. He could taste the bitter alcoholic tinge.
Calista slammed the glass bottle onto the table, “Sober up and get out.”
She must be crazy to think that Lucian was in trouble.
She put on her shoes, stood up in anger, and was about to walk into the bedroom when Lucian reached out and grabbed her, using quite a bit of force.
Calista’s, ankle was already sprained, and she could still walk with effort. But when he pulled hard, her ankle hurt, and she couldn’t stand still, falling onto the sofa.
“Ah,” she cried out in pain, her face turning pale, tears streaming down her face.
When Lucian came in just now, he was thinking about the doctor’s words and the strange man who appeared in her house. He walked in quickly and didn’t notice her walking posture.
Now, hearing her cry in pain, he was startled and didn’t even bother wiping the alcohol from his face.
“What’s wrong? Are you hurt?”
Calista didn’t need to answer. He had already seen her wound. Her left ankle was swollen, with a reddish
tint and a bruise.
“When did you sprain it?”
Lucian held her foot, kneeling on one knee. As he leaned over, the alcohol dripped from his hair onto her
skin. It felt a bit cold.
Calista instinctively pulled her foot back, and Lucian frowned, holding her to prevent her from moving.
His voice was cold, resembling how he would reprimand subordinates for mistakes during company
meetings
He looked somewhat disheveled, with messy, wet hair clinging to his forehead. The collar of his shirt was
damp, sticking to his body, outlining his muscles.
But he still looked handsome, and no matter how disheveled, he still appeared attractive. At this moment,
His fingers traced the swollen area of her ankle, applying varying pressures, ensuring no bone injury
before releasing her.
“How did you hurt it?”
The skin he had touched felt intensely hot to Calista. As Lucian withdrew his hand, she hurriedly shrunk back and tugged at her sleeves to cover her ankles.
“I accidentally twisted it.”
Lucian’s gaze remained fixed on her. Her subtle response did not escape his gaze.
“Who was the man from earlier?”
“A newly hired bodyguard.”
Lucian got up to fetch a bottle of cold water from the refrigerator, wrapping it in a towel and applying it to
Calista’s foot.
“He came to the house?”
Calista replied irritably, “Didn’t your bodyguard go to your house? What about those at the Everglades
Manor? Are they ghosts?”
Lucian didn’t press further about Liam. She wouldn’t have gotten rid of him if she was interested in him.
He could investigate it if she didn’t want to talk about it.
He opened a bottle of cocktail and handed it to Calista.
“I’ve asked about the Aphthon incident. The suspects the police apprehended weren’t around where your
had your accident.”
Calista didn’t want Lucian to get involved in this matter. Although she didn’t know Liam’s exact identity.
he must be powerful to pull off what he did. He seemed quite ruthless and lawless, too.
She took a sip of the drink.
Let’s forget about that. I’ll consider it bad luck. Besides, I won’t go to that area again in the future. Not
matter how long their reach is, they won’t be able to touch Capeton.”
hard to stop drinking once she started, and all the food on the table was her favorite. Callsta
sccidentally drank too much.
I shouldet drink anymore, I think I’m drunk
Lucian reached out and caught her swaying body. He deliberately chose drinks with higher alcohol content so she was more intoxicated than him.
“Hmm, let me take you back to your room to sleep.”
