Chapter 238 I’m Family, I’m Her Ex–husband
Cade was simply offering Lucian a solution. And now the latter decided to direct the problem back to him.
“What the fuck? This is a company phone. I run a film company. What’s wrong with me having interviews
with female artists?”
Now, Cade wanted nothing more than to smash the phone into Lucian’s face. Forget introducing him to someone. It’d be more appropriate to acquaint him with Bigfoot.
It was already late at night by the time Lucian got to the hospital. The nurse helped look into Calista’s
ward number.
“It’s past visiting hours, sir. Please come back tomorrow morning if you want to visit the patient. Otherwise, you would be disturbing the other patients in the ward.
Just as she finished, he noticed someone leaving the ward. It was Hector fetching some water with a thermos in hand. Lucian frowned and pointed at the man.
“What is he doing here then?”
The nurse, intimidated by his imposing presence, craned her neck in the direction he pointed at.
“He’s a family member acting as company to a hospitalized patient. That’s why he’s here.”
“Family member,” he said as he gritted his teeth.
There was hostility in the words that came tumbling from the depths of his throat.
“He’s family? Have you looked into who he is?
“He said he was the patient’s husband.”
The nurse had a deep impression of Hector. He was good–looking and a tough guy. The love in his eyes.
was clear to see as he carried the patient in.
The show of affection had the nurses blushing and sighing longingly. It was always the good–looking and
affectionate men who were taken!
“Husband? Have you seen their wedding certificate then? Is he her husband just because he says he is?
What if he’s a conman?”
The nurse gave the handsome, charismatic, and highborn man in front of her a once over and was left
rather speechless
The hospital was not the City Hall. Why would they demand to see a wedding certificate? What’s more, the woman that had been carried in wasn’t suffering from a serious illness.
Signatures from family members were merely a formality. In this case, they seemed like a legitimate pair.
Even if it were an old man in his seventies claiming to be the patient’s husband, the nurses wouldn’t bat an eyelid, let alone pursue the matter.
If Hector was the only one present, it wouldn’t have mattered. Lucian was the one who passed Calista oft
to him. The situation had been an urgent one.
The hospital required Calista’s family to sign the forms for her to be admitted. Impersonation would’ve been the only way. But, Paul was also around.
Paul seemed taken aback to see Lucian in the duty room. Then, he calmly walked over.
“The medicine is out.”
Lucian had gritted his teeth so hard that he nearly chipped them.
“Is he family too?” he asked through gritted teeth.
The nurse felt guilty.
“He’s the patient’s brother.” 1
The hospital stipulated that one family member could remain with the patient at night. But Paul’s gentle nature had broken through her defenses.
He promised not to be a bother to the other patients and would leave once Calista was done with her
infusion therapy.
“Hah,” Lucian scoffed and took large strides toward the ward.
The nurse hurried after him.
“Sir, you’re not allowed to go inside. We’re currently outside of visitation hours.”
“I’m also family.”
The nurse felt a headache coming on as she asked, “Are you also the patient’s brother?”
Lucian didn’t look remotely similar in temperament and appearance to Paul, the “brother“. But, he looked
to be about the right age. He gritted his teeth.
Tm her ex-husband.”
Calista had woken up and was seated against the head of the bed. As there were other patients in the sick beds, there was only a night light switched on in the room.
But it did nothing to hide how ridiculously pale she was. The color in her lips had yet to return and was still tinget istue. She barely reacted when she noticed Lucian
Each hospital bed was equipped with only one stool Paul had been a step too late as he had gone to fetch the nurse to remove the needle
By the time he returned, Lucian was already in the chair with his legs spread wide apart with no care in the world His gaze was fixed on Calista. The nurse removed the needle and turned to Lucian.
“There can only be one family member in the room. All of you need to leave. An ex–husband does not

“What for?”
He looked well enough besides being mentally challenged. The man jerked his chin toward the bedridden

“Whatever she’s down with, I have it too.”
“You should go see a doctor then. You’ll only be hospitalized if the doctor allows it.”
The nurse knew th
Lucian was deliberately trying to pick a fight but the staff code stipulated that they
were not to argue with patients.
Calista wasn’t planning to speak until Lucian pulled out wads of cash from his wallet to try to bribe the person in the bed next to hers to move into a different ward.
That was the last straw that made her break her silence.
“I believe I made myself clear back in the mountains, Lucian.”
“What did you say? You were thanking me for saving you back then, weren’t you?”
She was beyond livid but didn’t want to discuss personal matters with so many people around. She
gritted her teeth
“Why do you need to be hospitalized if you’re doing fine? Do you not feel shame for wasting medical
resources?
“We climbed the same mountain and got ourselves caught in the same rain. I was on that mountain for

The person in the hospital bed next to hers wasn’t seriously ill. He accepted the bribe. However, he couldn’t be bothered to get a nurse to prepare him a new bed. He simply got up and left for home.
Ten minutes later, a tired David walked in with bed sheets, quilts, and hospitalization papers. He quickly
made Lucian’s bed.
He didn’t dare to look up at Calista at all. It was embarrassing. He had never court a woman the way Lucian did.
But even without looking, he could feel Calista’s murderous gaze.

“The hospitalization procedures have been dealt with, Mr. Northwood. Do you need me here for the night?
* David asked. 1
He didn’t need his boss rehashing old scores if he was in a bad mood. He didn’t want to be accused of being an unqualified assistant and get his pay halved.
“No.”
Lucian’s voice was cold and laced with impatience.
“Alright. Rest well, sir.”
David then left.

As he passed Calista by, he said, “Rest well, Madam Calista. I a swift
recovery.
After saying that, he didn’t bother waiting for Calista to respond before leaving quickly.
Calista was rendered speechless. It was just a wish for a speedy recovery. Needless to say, it sounded so passionate that it could be mistaken for him wishing them a happy marriage.

Hector could feel that something was off the moment he reached the door even before he saw who was inside.
The moment he set foot inside, he finally noticed that the person in the bed next to Calista was now Lucian
He had only just gone for a smoke break. And now, the man had staked a claim on what was not his.
Hector approached Calista’s bed while Lucian glared murderously at him. He sat at the edge of the bed
