Chapter 201 Which Bastard Started This Rumor
“Remarry? With whom?”
Cade raised his voice.
“With Calista?”
*Remarrying refers to getting back with one’s ex–wife. If it’s a different person, it’s called a second marriage,” replied Lucian in a disdainful manner.
Cade sneered. The emotions he’d been suppressing for all these while suddenly ignited as there was not a single movement at the study door he’d left slightly ajar.
“Anyways, I won’t be giving any dowry.”
“I don’t fancy your second–rate goods as well.”
“Then why did you call in the first place? Just quietly go ahead with your marriage registration. Or do you fancy having a grand banquet and getting me to be your best man?”
“You’ve been having a rocky relationship lately and I don’t think it’s auspicious for you to be my best man, you know. I just called to tell you this.”
“Heh,” Cade let out a genuine laugh and sneered, “I’m not dating you. Whether I’m in a rocky relationship or not, it’s none of your concern. Don’t call me in the future regarding personal matters from now on.”
He hung up directly after he uttered his last word.
Lucian didn’t bother arguing with him either. He sat on the sofa and rested his temples against his hand, as he played with his phone for a while. He then headed to the bathroom to freshen up after a cigarette.
The next day was again another busy day. Calista headed to the Baker Group immediately after she left
the museum.
Paul wasn’t in. Palpable tension hung in the air in the entire project department. The sounds of papers shuffling and keyboards clicking only made the silence more deafening/made it seem quieter than ever.
Calista’s colleague, Bob approached her quietly and asked in a hushed tone, “Calista, did you fight with Mr. Baker? He’s been very gloomy for the whole afternoon.”
“No,” Calista turned on her computer. “Mr. Baker and I are just ordinary friends. Don’t spread rumors.”
Bob put on a disappointed look.

“It seems like Mr. Baker was rejected. No wonder he’s in a bad mood.”
Calista had made herself clear about the rumors about her and Paul many times, both openly and int private. But her explanation didn’t make much difference. So she had let it be.
Bob added.
“If you don’t even fancy someone like Mr. Baker, then-”
Before he could finish his sentence, Paul stepped out of the lift. His usual gentle appearance was now
expressionless.
His gaze swept across the office area, and the sound of keyboards clicking intensified.
Bob stopped abruptly. He quickly wheeled his office chair back to his work stall and buried himself in
work.
In contrast to the busy office, Calista felt out of place as she had just arrived. Paul’s gaze fell on her.
“Calista, come to my office.”
Everyone from the design department was in his office. They had a short meeting and went through the revised plans from yesterday.
Paul announced, “Alright, let’s end the meeting here. You guys can get off work early today, so go back
and get some rest. Calista, stay back for a while.”
The rest left one after another except for Calista. She thought he had something work–related to discuss
with her.
But to her surprise, Paul asked, “Are you remarrying Lucian?”
Calista was speechless.
Paul thought she admitted as she remained silent. His expression turned somewhat self–deprecating and bitter.
“So, did we just lose our chance again?”
Calista frowned.
“Who told you I’m going to remarry Lucian?”
Paul also furrowed his brows.
The news has been circulating in our circle.”

“Which bastard started this rumor?”
Calista was infuriated. Previously, almost no one knew she was Mrs. Northwood when she was married
to Lucian for three years.
But now even after she was divorced, Lucian’s name seemed to haunt her everywhere.
“So you’re not thinking of remarrying him?”
Paul smiled faintly as he gazed upon Calista, whose expression seemed to liven up because of anger.
“Of course not,” Calista stated firmly.
It took her so much effort to break free from that rotten and unbearable marriage. She would have to be
insane to go back to it again.
Three v
years.
years had been more than enough. She’d end up going nuts if she had to go through another three
“But Paul, don’t you waste your time on me. I can tell that Aunty Agnes is worried about your marriage. Don’t let her wait for too long
“It depends on you whether you want to make her wait too long. It’s about when you’re willing to be my
girlfriend.”
Paul might seem like a gentleman, but he was an incredibly persistent one when it came to things he’d set
his mind on.
Unlike Hector, who was brazen and unrestrained, Paul was like the ocean. No matter how tumultuous he
might be deep down, he would always appear calm. Calista remained silent.
*Calista, didn’t you used to like me a lot? What if you’ll fall for me again if we give it a go? After all, it’s not impossible to fall in love again with someone you once had feelings for. Lucian hadn’t been treating you well for the past three years. Even if you have feelings for him, they might not be as deep as you imagine.
Calista gave his words a serious thought. But in the end, she shook her head.
“It’s different, Paul. You’ve been outstanding since young. You have a great personality that can tolerate anyone. You’re like a lighthouse amongst the darkness…
Calista didn’t know how to describe that feeling. She used to be the apple of the eye of her family when her mother was alive.
She’d always thought of Paul as her elder brother. But after her mother passed, her life changed radically, she became shunned.

As Calista faced such a tremendous change in her life, Calista couldn’t help but rebel when even her beloved father married someone else.
During that time, others had distanced themselves from her for various reasons. Except for Paul.
An outstanding, handsome, and forgiving man who’d always been treating Calista the same way despite her desperate situation. It’d be easy for anyone to fall for him.
But her emerging and passionate feelings for him didn’t last long. Besides, they hadn’t been in touch for three years since then.
“So are you telling me that your feelings for me were merely out of admiration, not genuine affection
toward me?” asked Paul,
Calista remained silent for a few seconds and apologized.
“There’s no need to apologize. From now on, try your best to fall for me,” Paul teased as he chuckled softly, “Don’t treat me as your “lighthouse‘, treat me as a regular man instead. A man who’d cry, laugh, get
angry, and even get jealous. You’re not remarrying Lucian anytime soon and no one’s pursuing you now. It
wouldn’t hurt to have an admirer, isn’t it?”
Paul ended this topic.
“Let’s go. I’ll drive you back.”
“No need. I drove myself here.”
Calista’s car had been repaired. She picked it up from the repair shop earlier this morning.
*Alright. Be careful on the road.”
Paul promised to not cause her any trouble and he did keep his promise. He indeed respected all her
decisions.
As Calista descended to the parking lot, she opened her Facebook. Her account was completely under the sun now after topping the headlines a couple of times.
She immediately came across a few comments asking whether she was going to remarry Lucian. Calista didn’t reply.
It seemed the news of her remarrying Lucian must’ve spread far and wide, to the extent that even unfamiliar netizens started questioning her.
Although she didn’t know where they got the false news, she posted a serious declaration to avoid bringing unnecessary trouble to both parties.
