Calista felt quite awkward as they were all shooting distinctive looks at her. It seemed like everything had ended now. No one spoke a word. Even Charlotte stopped her tantrums.
As Calista got up and attempted to make her leave, Lucian tightened his grip. She was fixated on her seat. Gilbert gritted his teeth, his veins were popping on his forehead.
He ordered his housekeeper who was still in the kitchen, “Get me some hot water.”
Charlotte stared at her father in fear.
“Dad, what are you doing!”
Although Charlotte knew by instinct that this glass of hot water wasn’t for her, since her father cherished
her so much. His heart would bleed when it was just a small cut on her.
But as Charlotte saw her father’s gritted teeth and tense expression, she couldn’t help but be frightened.
The housekeeper thought Gilbert wanted to have some water, so she came over hurriedly with a steaming
hot of water. It was boiling water. Steam was rising from the water’s surface.

Gilbert tapped on the coffee table. He clenched his jaw.
“Charlotte, put your hand on the table.”
Charlotte’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
She screamed hysterically, “Dad!”
“Put it on the table,” Gilbert raised his voice, yet returning to his normal loving tone. But his trembling
voice revealed his true emotions. He was trying his best to endure the situation.
“I’ll cover your eyes. We have to bear the consequences of our mistakes. Don’t be scared, Charlotte,
Daddy’s with you.”

Charlotte turned away and attempted to escape. Gilbert grabbed her and pulled her back to the coffee
table. He pinned her left hand down forcefully on the glass surface of the coffee table.
Gilbert held Charlotte in one hand as he reached for the mug in another. He didn’t hold the mug handle,
Instead, he went for the burning hot mug.

Calista’s burnt finger twitched. It hurt for her even though the water Charlotte spilled on her had been left
on for quite some time. Not to mention the mug Gilbert was holding onto now.
Even the outer surface of the mug was much hotter than the water spilled on her. For some unknown.
reason, her eyes felt sore and hot.
Charlotte did have a father who loved her a lot. Just like how Zachary used to be in the past. Calista got
- up. She was feeling a bit down.
“Forget it.”
She turned around and left for the door. She ignored Lucian who was still on the couch. Lucian gritted his
teeth as he saw her left. After a while, he got up and left with a stoic expression.
Once they left, Gilbert could no longer hold onto the steaming hot mug. Calista was visibly disheartened
when the
got back in the car. Her eyes were half–closed and she was in no mood to talk.
Lucian spoke in a low voice. He was unhappy regarding how she just left earlier on.
“Are you unhappy?”
“Are you unhappy because of how I treated her or was it because I did it for your sake?”
Calista opened her eyes. She was visibly tired.
She replied weakly, “Thanks.”
Lucian remained silent. He admitted that he did do all these to get her to thank him, but he wanted
something more than her gratitude.
He stiffened his lips. He finally spoke after a while, “Jonathan, send Mrs. Northwood back to her place.”
“Alright.”
Calista was about to correct Lucian. But he closed his eyes, Jonathan’s attention was on the road as well.
So she kept her mouth shut instead.
It’s just a matter of addressing her. It could’ve just slipped out of Lucian’s mouth by mistake. No one
would take it seriously.
Calista had been very busy for the next few days. She’s in a new environment and she had to start fresh
with her social network. The museum was pretty large–scale and it had a lot of employees.
in the
So she had to deal with the more complicated interpersonal relationships in the museum compared to
how it was in Justa. After work, she had to rush to Paul’s company for design proposal meetings.

When she finally got back home, she still had to work on the designs and her freelances editing tasks.
Callata was awamped with work
She didn’t bump into Lucian again. She wasn’t sure whether Lucian finally got tired of her or she was too
busy, and he didn’t have the chance to meet her.
Calista worked overtime until nine again tonight. Two days ago, she was too tired when she was driving
and her car scratched against the flowerbed. Her car was sent for repair.
Paul wanted to send her back. But Yarn was eating with her friends near Calista’s area, so she promised
Calista to come and fetch her.
Once she got in the car, Yara handed her a lunchbox.
“Supper for you. Better eat it since it’s not cold yet.”
“Yara, you’re such a babe.”
Calista would’ve given Yara a big kiss on her cheek if she wasn’t driving now.
The prolonged and highly focused work demanded a rapid expenditure of Callsta’s energy. She was
starving even though she had just eaten at 6:00 PM.
“Oh yeah, I have something to tell you. Lucian, that son of a… no, Mr. Northwood transferred 500,000
dollars to me.”
Calista lifted her head. She could barely pronounce her words as her mouth was stuffed with food. She
looked like a hamster.
“Is he going to go after you now?”
Lucian transferred such a huge sum to Yara–that was the only reason Calista could think of. She was
mentally exhausted and her brain wasn’t functioning properly.
Yara rolled her eyes.
“Please, for god’s sake! Don’t scare me when I’m driving. He helped you pay 450,000 dollars to me, and the extra 50,000 dollars is the bribe to not address him as son of a bitch from now onward.”
Yara smiled sheepishly.
“I wanted to side with you, but he gave me too much money. In the end, I gave in. I can’t call him son of a
bitch anymore in the future.”
Calista was speechless.

“Not only did he pay off your debt, but he also paid my relatives as well. He even included the interest. All
of my relatives are calling me every single day now, asking whether I need money from them.”
Calista remained silent. The 100.000 dollars Paul advanced to Calista was still on her card. Except for the
initial 15.000 dollars
Yara thought Calista was touched that’s why she remained silent.
“I think he must be planning something big. Since things became really bad between him and Lily, there’s
no way they could go back now. Maybe he finally knew how to appreciate you after this.”
yara didn’t know whether Calista was still into Lucian, But Yara couldn’t bear her bestie to be treated
unfairly.
“If you’re still into him and you want to get together with him, play hard to get. Don’t let him get what he
wants easily. You must teach him a lesson, or else he’ll get tempted easily again when another girl pops
Calista buried her head in her supper.
“What happened to him and Lily?”
“Lity was caught in a casting couch with an old man in his sixties. That man had his hands all over her. I found out coincidentally because I was dragged along by my dad to attend that social event. Not only the old man was immoral enough to not close the door when he was doing it with Lily, but he even invited Lucian over. So you could already picture how furious Lucian was when he found out. He didn’t even stay
up to five minutes and left right away.”
This gossip was booming to Calista’s ears. She even slowed down chewing her food. Given that temper of Lucian, he would’ve beaten the old man up until he’s paralyzed and stuck in bed for the rest of his life.
Calista asked. “And then?”
“And then he paid off your debt, isn’t it? I think he no longer cares about the three million you owe him. He even gave you extra money. Isn’t it obvious that he wants to get back with you? He wouldn’t want to go back to that slut, Lily, for seeing what she’d done. Who knows whether it’s her first time doing it.”
“Well, thanks Yara,” said Calista sarcastically.
Lucian wanted to come back to her now since he couldn’t get back to Lily. That didn’t sound like good
news to her.
