Chapter 129 Forced to Take Birth Control
One look at Lucian’s attitude and the sarcastic tone of voice, Calista knew he had heard everything.
Lily had failed to get her way with her that morning and left for a few minutes. When she
returned, her mood had visibly improved.
And now Lucian showed up when lunchtime rolled around. It was clear from his tone that he was
degrading her. So, he was here seeking revenge on his lover’s behalf.
Calista had a busy day as a puppet on strings being directed to perform. She was exhausted. And
now she had to face this man picking on her after finishing up. Her expression darkened.
She set aside her phone on the table. The clear thud could be heard. She crossed her arms, leaned
against the backrest, and got straight to the point.
“So, what does Lily want? Does she want her money back? She can dream on.”
There was a certain gloom in his eyes.
“We’re discussing the matter concerning Claude. Don’t go involving an outsider.”
“Outsider? Lily called you this morning, didn’t she? Did she tattle about me? Is that why you’re
here insulting me by insinuating that I should sell myself for resources? Are you sure you aren’t
going out of your way to humiliate me just so she can get a one–up on me?”
“The only reason she can run her mouth is because you did something behind my back. Just
because you can do it doesn’t mean she can’t report your actions to me.”
He leaned close. The air around him grew colder.
“Why didn’t you tell me about your identity as Claude?”
“Why should I tell you? Do you have relics you want me to restore?”
The man was smirking.
“You know what I mean.”
Calista fell silent as memories of the past rushed over her. Bitterness and frustration rose in her
heart. She smiled.
“Have you ever bothered to ask? My workspace is right next to your study I’ve never locked the
whole years, you chose to turn a blind eye.”
She hadn’t felt an ounce of resentment since deciding to get a divorce. She no longer wanted this
man in her life. What else was there to feel resentment for?
Bringing up the past now was all to address lingering grievances. Her smile only grew more brazen at the sight of his tense expression.
“You’ve always thought of me as a mere assistant who only earns a few thousand dollars a month. You believed I only got the job because of Mom’s recommendation. You know best why you think of me that way. You believe I’m a worthless nobody without you and the Northwood family. Am I right?”
Lucian’s head was tilted slightly. The restaurant’s dim lighting had his short hair casting
shadows on his eyes. His emotions remained unreadable. He said nothing when faced with her questioning.
It was unclear if he was experiencing a sudden pang of guilt or if he couldn’t comprehend her deep
“You had David investigate my goings–on after I resigned from the Northwood Corporation. He told you I was working as a janitor at Justa and you believed it. Has it ever occurred to you that I’m a graduate of a prestigious university and a former employee of the Northwood Corporation? Why would I end up working as a janitor?”
She recounted how those from the workshop would refer to her as Claude. She also publicly restored a painting at the birthday party.
There were so many signs. Anyone who thought about it would’ve figured it out. But Lucian
To be able to manage a massive corporation in such a well–organized manner and allow it to flourish meant Lucian’s mind was unfathomable.
If that were the case, there was only one explanation. He didn’t care. That was why he had been so oblivious.
That was when the waiter began to serve them their food. But Calista had lost her appetite. She grabbed her purse and got to her feet.
Lucian finally reacted and reached out to grab her by her wrist.
Then, he pursed his lips and added. “I’m sorry.”
“Apology not accepted. If you think you owe me something, Mr. Northwood, sign the divorce
papers. I’ll be thanking you to the day I die.”
“I haven’t done enough in the past. But divorce is off the table.‘
So he dared to say he hadn’t done enough. Calista rolled her eyes.
“You know how to make yourself look like a good guy! If we’re not discussing the divorce, then there’s nothing else for us to talk about. Let go.”
She forcefully tugged her hand out of his grip. In her struggle, she accidentally knocked over a glass of wine on the table, drenching Lucian. The mellow aroma of wine filled the air.
Even though he wore dark–colored clothing, there were wine stains on them. His soaked shirt
clung to his skin.
He loved cleanliness. But he wouldn’t go so far as to call it an obsession. The sticky sensation of
wet fabric against his skin, however, was making him uncomfortable. He gritted his teeth.
She didn’t feel the slightest bit of guilt to see the state of his clothes. Instead, she stroked her
hand which had turned red from his grip.
“Grab me like that again and it’ll be your face next time!”
With that, she turned to leave. There was no reluctance in her steps.
The filming of the show continued in the following days. Calista had worked herself to the bone. It
wasn’t until the day after it all ended that she could rest.
However, Selena invited her to go shopping that same day. New Year was just around the corner. They had to prepare gifts for household staff.
Calista observed the massive pile of items Selena had bought and asked, “Haven’t these always been handled by Macy? Why are you personally doing the shopping this year?
“I haven’t had much to do recently So, I thought to fill my time with this I’ll just buy a few things
If there’s a shortage. Macy will fill in the gaps”
“Does that mean Dad is staying next year?”
After Henry left the Northwood Corporation under Lucian’s care, the elder man fell into boredom
and started a new company with some friends
It was initially a way to pass the time. But the business did well. Not only did it not fail, several
branches were set up This kept him away from his family. He could only make time to return
during the holidays.
Calista had heard that they recently found a capable manager to run the company. She shot
Selena a wink
I’m sure you’ll find yourself occupied when the time comes
Selena laughed at her teasing
“Oh, so you can poke fun at me It seems Lucian hasn’t been working hard enough
Halfway through the conversation, she recalled that the two were in the middle of a divorce. Het
good mood vanished in an instant
She didn’t want to burden Calista with needless baggage She acted as if she didn’t notice and
forced a smile
“Let go Let me go, you bitch! 111 kill you if you don’t let go!”
A man’s angry voice could be heard ahead, overshadowing the lively atmosphere of the shopping
The two women looked up That was when they noticed a haggard and disheveled woman
clinging onto a muddle–aged man. The man was protecting a pregnant woman in his arms with

The man, ashamed and angered by being made a public spectacle, retorted, “Fuck you. We’ve been married for years and yet you haven’t given birth to a single child. You’re forty! The doctors say you can’t have children. You’re a snake who would see this family without an heir!”
*I can’t have children? That’s because you keep forcing me to take those birth control pills!”
The woman lunged at the pregnant lady who was being protected like a maddened beast.
– “Since I can’t have children, I won’t let this bitch have any either!”
But before she could reach the pregnant woman, the man kicked her away. Soon, the mall’s security rushed over and escorted them away. Seeing this, Calista took Selena’s hand.
“Let’s go, Mom. There should be more to see upstairs.”
She realized Selena didn’t follow after taking a step forward. The elder woman seemed troubled. Calista frowned.
“What’s wrong, Mom?”
Tell me the truth, Calista. You’ve been married to Lucian for three years. But you haven’t conceived. Is it because he doesn’t want a child and is forcing you to take birth control?”
Calista was taken aback by the topic of birth control.
