Chapter 8 Tristan Brings Me Here
The servants of the Duran family started a frantic search in the morning. It took them nearly an hour to find Rence in Tristan’s house. If Tristan wasn’t dead, they wouldn’t dare to set foot in his house. Therefore, they didn’t expect that Renee would be there.
The woman’s expression was murderous. The mourning hall was packed with guests, yet none of the Duran family members were present. Once the words got out, people would blame it on her.
Renee rubbed her eyes dazedly.
She didn’t recognize this woman.
“Mrs. Renee Duran,” the servant next to her said, “this is Mrs. Diane Duran, Mr. Tristan’s aunt.”
Rence remembered that on her way to Ampleshire, someone filled her in on Tristan’s family tree. Tristan’s father was the eldest son in hist generation and Tristan was his only child. His mom passed away a long time ago and his father had become some kind of a hermit. On the other hand, his uncle, Rick Duran, had a big family. He had two sons and a daughter. Rence believed that this woman was his wife, Diane Campbell.
Diane looked at Rence’s confused look and grew angrier. “I heard that the Fletcher girl is a rude bumpkin. Still, your demeanor surprised me. Since your parents failed to discipline you, I’ll show you the rules.”
“Get the tool.”
The servants were shocked. One hurriedly said, “Ma’am, Mrs. Freida Duran is the one who ordered us to bring Mrs. Renee Duran back. If

you discipline her by yourself…”
Diane snorted, “What? Are you defying my order?”
The servant clammed up.
As Tristan died, Rick and Diane would be in power. Diane held absolute discourse power. They would be doomed if they offended her.
Urged to please Diane, one servant brought over the tool quickly. It was a 6–cm thick birch. Diane took the birch and said coldly, “Drag her out of the bed.”
The servants worked together, dragged Renee out of the bed, and pinned her on the plush carpet. Renee still looked dazed.
Diane looked down at her condescendingly. “Since this is the first time. you broke the rules, I’ll only give you ten spanks.”
Renee looked at the birch and automatically felt scared.
When she was little, Helen Lane, her grandma, would punish her with a birch like this. Sometimes it was because she didn’t cook dinner before sunset due to her homework. Sometimes it was because she ate too much. Most of the time, it was because Helen vented her anger out on her or because Helen disliked the fact that she was a girl.
Helen was harsh and wouldn’t stop until she drew blood. In her Peace. Town family, her mom wouldn’t stop Helen and her father didn’t dare to. Her brother would only watch Renee get beat up like a stranger. That seemed to be the only impression Renee had about her so–called family.
Diane seemed to suddenly remember something and frowned. “How did you get in here?”
Renee had never come to the Duran’s house before. The mourning hall

was far from Tristan’s wing. How on earth did she wander into here?
Renee replied honestly, “Mr. Tristan brought me here.”
Other people in the room all felt a chill.
Tristan brought her here… That was impossible because Tristan was. dead.
Diane felt a chill run down her back and said through gritted teeth, “What are you talking about? Tristan’s body is in the mourning hall and is ready to be buried. How…how could he bring you here?”
Renee blinked and said, “But he did. He also gave me one of his apples. He wanted me to sleep in his casket. But I said no, so he brought me here.”
Honestly, every word Renee said was true. Yet other people’s faces all grew paler as she spoke.
Diane was the palest.
