Chapter 18 A Sweet Voice
Klein had a cold expression without saying anything.
He just stared at Rence while she was eating with composure. Under the shocked look of Klein, Renee had three plates of pasta.
Klein looked at Renee, whose figure was petite but whose belly was bulging. “You were really starving.”
Renee took a sip of water and said, “I am a bit stuffed.”
“Then why did you eat so much?”
“I have to eat as much as I can,” Renee replied. “If I can’t meet kind- hearted people like you to treat me to a meal at night, I will starve. I don’t like being hungry.”
Klein felt upset upon hearing this, thinking that Renee was acting pitiful again. He said, “Kind–hearted people like me? I am your brother.”
Renee thought that anyone who gave her food was a good person and didn’t want to make Klein unhappy, so she nodded.
“Sorry to interrupt.” A knocking sound came from the door.
Both of them looked up and saw Shelton standing at the door.
Shelton’s gaze fell on the untidy dishes, and then he said to Renee, “Mrs. Duran, there are some matters that require your attention.”
“Okay.” Renee stood up and waved to Klein. “I need to go.”
Klein looked at Shelton and coldly said. “I won’t bother to see you off.”
Rence followed Shelton out of the break room and asked, “Mr. Quinn, what’s the matter?”
“Mr. Duran asked me to summon you for lunch, but it seems that you have had it,” Shelton explained.
Renee’s eyes lit up. “Mr. Duran is such a good person! Although I’ve eaten, please thank him for me, Mr. Quinn.”
“Mrs. Duran, it would be better for you to thank Mr. Duran in person.” Shelton showed a polite smile. “Mr. Duran is waiting for you at Swallow Court… to have lunch together.”
Renee was shocked.
She was brought to Tristan’s residence by Shelton. Only then did she know that this place was called Swallow Court.
Shelton pushed open the door and said, “Mrs. Duran, please.”
Renee walked in and saw Tristan sitting at the dining table.
The lighting was poor last night, so Renee didn’t get a good look at Tristan’s appearance. Now, under the bright sunlight in June, she finally saw Tristan’s face clearly.
Tristan was wearing a green shirt with black trousers and military boots. It outlined his slender legs. The sleeves of the shirt were rolled up, revealing his strong forearms. Between his long fingers, he held a cigarette, with smoke curling up. Tristan’s facial features were distinctively outlined and exquisite as if they were a masterpiece of art.
Compared to the portrait. Tristan appeared even colder and more handsome.
Seeing Renee, Tristan casually pressed the cigarette into the ashtray and looked up. “Come and sit.”
Renee glanced at the rich dishes on the table, touched her bulging belly, and sat opposite Tristan.
Tristan narrowed his eyes. “You’re sitting so far away. Are you afraid of me?”
Renee moved two steps closer but still maintained a far distance away from Tristan.
Tristan suddenly stood up and approached Renee, putting Renee under extremely strong pressure. “Have you forgotten how to address me?”
Scared, Renee blinked her eyes incessantly. After pursing her rosy lips for a while, she softly called out, “Honey.”
Tristan reached out and grasped her chubby cheek, saying, “Who gave you candy?”
Renee replied, “What? No one.”
Only Klein gave her turkey, roast pork, beef stew, and oysters!
Tristan said, “You didn’t eat candy. Why does your voice sound so sweet?”
