Chapter 10 I’m Hungry
Diane’s wobbly legs could barely support her. “Shelton… Did Tristan…really…”
Shelton thought, “There’s no ghost in the world.
This young woman may look innocent, but she’s cunning. She made it
- up.
This is the first time I’ve been wrong about one person’s character. I thought she was a pure fragile bunny. Turns out she’s a fox.”
“Ma’am, although I don’t think there are ghosts in the world, I did have a weird dream last night.” Shelton nudged his glasses and shot Renee a sharp look behind the lenses. Renee was still playing coy. “Maybe Mr. Duran really likes Ms. Fletcher,” he added.
He looked at the birch on Diane’s hand and said, “Why did you bring out this tool?”
Shelton was Tristan’s right–hand man and was influential. When Tristan was alive, he was the fiercest underling of Tristan. Tristan’s death meant no one could hold Shelton back. Diane was afraid of offending him.
Subconsciously, she hid the birch behind her back and said, “I… Many guests have arrived. But Joel hasn’t gotten up. I’m using this to punish him.”
Joel Duran was Diane’s eldest son. a good–for–nothing rich boy. When he found out Tristan was dead, he threw a party to celebrate and it went on for 24 hours.
“Really?” Shelton said softly. “He’s so disrespectful to Mr. Duran. Mrs. Diane Duran, you must teach him a lesson.”
Diane suppressed her anger. “OK. Shelton, you should go on with your business. I’m going to wake Joel up… Ms. Fletcher, you need to go to the mourning hall once you finish washing up. We don’t want to keep the guests waiting.”
Renee nodded. “OK.”
Diane stormed out. The more she thought about it, the stranger the event felt. “Trisha… Do you think Tristan really becomes a ghost?”
Trisha Pitts whispered, “I heard that when a person dies miserably, the person will be a fierce ghost. Mr. Duran doesn’t even have a complete body left. Maybe that’s why…”
Diane shivered. “Enough.”
She stared ahead and said darkly, “Even if Tristan becomes a ghost and comes back, I can kill him again. Who does Shelton think he is? How dare he act so arrogant in front of me… One day, I’ll make him kneel in front of me and lick my shoes.”

Renee turned around and put on her shoes before asking Shelton, “Aren’t you here to pick up something?”
Shelton said calmly. “Don’t worry about it.”
Renee said OK and Shelton took out his phone. “Unfortunately, I was talking to Mr. Duran on the phone when I walked in. I believe Mr. Duran has heard everything you just said. You asked me if he told me that he liked you and asked me to take care of you… Why don’t you ask him yourself?”
Rence froze in place and stared at Shelton’s screen. It showed the call was still going on.
Rence was speechless.
She thought, “Shelton is so mean.”
“You can’t trust any men?” Tristan’s voice blared out through the phone. His voice was cold and husky, like it was coming from a grave. “I like you?”
Shelton handed Renee his phone with a half–smile. “Mrs. Duran.”
Renee took the phone in her dainty hand and her expression changed rapidly. In the end, she said, “Mr. Duran, I have to tell you one important thing first.”
Tristan decided to be forgiving. “Go on.”
Renee’s voice was sweet and soft, like marshmallows. “I’m hungry and want to have breakfast.”
Tristan was speechless.
