Chapter 99
By the time Eulalie called out to Celeste, she had already reached the
intersection.
“What’s up?”
Eulalie wore only a sweater. She was shivering from the bone–chilling cold.
outside. Nevertheless, she clenched her teeth and mustered the courage to say,
“Celeste, I’m sorry.”
Celeste couldn’t hold back the urge to question, “why did you lie to me?
Why didn’t you answer my calls?”
Eulalie’s tears rolled down her cheeks, her chin, and dropped onto her
sweater. “You hate me, don’t you? You hate me because I’m repugnant and
hypocritical.”
Celeste shook her head, “no.”
Eulalie sobbed in silence. Her tears flowed ceaselessly.
Celeste noticed that she wasn’t wearing her coat, “follow me. Let’s talk in
the car. It’s too cold outside.”
Before going abroad, Celeste had parked her car in Sienna’s garage.
Eulalie followed her.
Inside the car, the heater was set to full blast. It got warmer and warmer.
After a long pause, Eulalie finally began to explain, “I got close to you on
purpose.”
“Why?”

“Manuel, he broke off engagement with me for your sake.”
Celeste wore a puzzled expression. “When did this happen?”
“Late August last year.”
Celeste recollected. Late August? That was just a few days before she went
abroad, and yet, she had been entirely oblivious to the situation.
“If he broke off the engagement, why are you two married now?”
The story was intricate, but Eulalie brought up another matter. “I didn’t intentionally ignore your calls. At that time, my family had confiscated my phone, and I only knew you were calling and texting me, but I had no way to
respond.”
Celeste nodded, “what happened then?”
“After they broke off the engagement, my family… chose the wrong side in a party conflict and offended some influential people. It led us to a precarious position. Despite our wealth, we lack the means to protect ourselves.”
With a trace of bitterness in her eyes, Eulalie continued, “everyone is
waiting for my family to break down so they can take a big bite of our
interests.”
“We have no other way… My father pleaded with Vader family.”
She covered her eyes with her hand. It’s the most humiliating moment she
had suffered. “My father said… he doesn’t mind if Manuel loves me or not. Hel
also doesn’t mind if, in the future, Manuel… divorces me.”
“As long as… as long as they help us through this tough period, our family
promises to provide financial support to them.”

Eulalie’s voice was nearly faded into sobs.
Celeste softly asked, “and Vader family agreed to his offer?”
Eulalie nodded, “after all, the predicament of my family has something to
do withe their publicly breaking off the engagement… they feel guilty.”
Eulalie was all taking about her family, but had omitted her own feelings.
“So, did you agree with this marriage willingly?”
“Whether I’m willing or not, what difference does it make? There’s no
another choice for me.”
Celeste felt empathetic to see Eulalie become a victim of power struggle, but
any of her soothing words would be powerless because she hadn’t experienced what Eulalie had gone through.
“Manuel… Does Manuel know this thing?” Celeste asked.
Eulalie wiped away her tears, “he does. He’s a good man. He didn’t force me into anything. He just told me to trust him and that he would take care of
everything.”
Celeste wasn’t surprised by his words. Manuel has always been a highly responsible person, and for whatever reason, as long as he accepted Eulalie as his wife, it meant he would take care of her for life.
“Listen to me. I didn’t know anything about Manuel breaking off your engagement. For all these years, I’ve been treating him as a friend, Sienna’s brother. I’ve never harbored any inappropriate thoughts, so don’t put this in heart.”
Eulalie believed her. “I know you’re not in love with Manuel.

Everyone knew that she loved Kendric.
“Now that you and Manuel have got married, please cherish your relationship. Don’t let the imperfect start make you think your marriage will be
a failure,” Celeste said.
After knowing the whole story, she felt no desire to blame Eulalie.
She reached out and gave Eulalie a hug, “believe me, things will get better.
You and Manuel will live a happy life together.”
Eulalie didn’t fully believe in Celeste’s blessing. It wasn’t until she later
walked into Manuel’s heart and decided to spend their lives together that she
realized Celeste had already sent her the most beautiful blessing in the world.
Before Eulalie got off the car, Celeste took off her coat and handed it to her, but Eulalie rejected it, “don’t worry. It’s just a few steps away from the house.”
But it was quite late, and Celeste was still worried. She sent a message to Sienna, asking her to come out and pick up Eulalie.
Sienna received the message, “didn’t Manuel go out to pick her up a while
ago?”
Eulalie walked back, and when she came to a narrow alley, she felt a bit
feared.
She was preparing to gather her courage and rush through the alley. A man walked out of the darkness.
She was startled and took several steps back.
Manuel held a coat on his arm and stood about a meter away from Eulalie. He handed her the coat, “put this on.”

“Thank you.”
Manuel noticed her red eyes, “did you cry?”
Eulalie hung her head as she put on the coat.
Manuel didn’t probe into the reason or offer any words of comfort. “If
there’s anything that upsets you in the future, let me know.”
“I’m your husband, and from now on, I will protect you in every situation.”
