Chapter 91
Only the man who was thoroughly intoxicated had spoke rudely. However,
the others felt they couldn’t cruelly abandon him here.
Kendric glanced at his watch. “I’ll give you five second, you can choose to
stay and keep him company, or leave now.”
Three seconds later, only the drunken man was dumped on the floor.
Myles hadn’t uttered a word yet, but Kendric seemed to have guessed what
he was about to say.
“Rest assured, Mr. Alinsky. I am a reasonable person. Anyone who speaks out of line should bear the consequences. I won’t involve others. Besides, Cade. has received professional training and I promise he won’t accidentally kill or mutilate him.”
“Is that acceptable to you?”
What else could Myles say? It was only fair to punish this intoxicated person, who spouted nonsense to his cherished daughter.
The drunkard had been exceedingly audacious just moments ago, but now he was as timid as a mouse, lying on the ground feigning faintness.
Kendric motioned Cade, “wake him up.”
Cade was strong enough to lift the fat man from the ground and tossed him into the courtyard.
him.
A garden hose lay in the courtyard, and Cade directly sprayed cold water on
Celeste and Myles watched in astonishment from inside.
Kendric glanced at the leftovers on the table, “you cooked these?”
Celeste nodded.
Kendric politely addressed Myles, “Mr. Alinsky, I haven’t had lunch yet. I
hope you don’t mind my intrusion.”
Myles‘ face turned stern. He glared at the composed Kendric and then at
Celeste, who appeared guilty.
“Don’t look at me that way, dad. I really have no idea that he would come!”
Myles shot her a glare. “Come upstairs with me!”
Celeste trailed behind Myles, her head hung low. Outside, screams echoed incessantly, while Kendric was calmly eating the meal cooked by Celeste.
Myles was irate with Celeste this time, “why did he come? Are you two back together?”
“No, no dad! I didn’t know he was coming today.”
Myles eyed her skeptically, “it’s not that you invited him?”
She shook her head, “since we broke up, I’ve never approached him. Though we’ve bumped into each other a few times, it was always he…” She trailed off, realizing that she had just blurted out the truth.
“You’ve met him before?” Myles’s anger grew.
Previously, Celeste hadn’t told her father about her being stranded alone in the hotel during the hurricane. Now, she had no choice but to reveal everything in detail.
Myles fell silent for a moment, “so, you’ve been in touch after the breakup?
Chapter
He even went out in a hurricane to save you?”
Celeste nodded. “Dad, I swear I have no intention of getting back with him.
It’s purely… a coincidence that we encountered each other.”
Myles saw through Kendric’s tricks at a glance. “Coincidence? I suspect it
was all orchestrated by himself! You keep falling into his traps, how naive of
you.”
H
Then dad, I’ll kick him out right now.”
She turned to go downstairs, but Myles stopped her with a stern command,
“come back!”
Myles gritted his teeth. It was the first time he realized how cunning Kendric could be. He had traveled all the way here. Moreover, he had helped Celeste multiple times before. Objectively speaking, they could not just rudely drive him away!
“Let him stay for a meal, then drive him away.”
Celeste nodded. “Got it.”
Myles was frustrated to the point of a headache. He shut his own door, out of sight, out of mind.
After Celeste returned downstairs, Kendric was sitting at the table, frowning at the dishes.
He was extremely fastidious, and these dishes had long turned cold.
Celeste sneered, watching him with arms folded. “Stop pretending.”
Chapter1
Kendric blinked his eyes, “I really haven’t eaten. I’m very hungry.”
The implication was clear, either she watched him starve, or she got him.
something to eat.
Cade had already dealt with the drunkard and left, leaving Kendric alone in
the living room.
“Have Cade bring you some food.”
Kendric’s frown deepened.
“You cook it for me.”
Celeste didn’t bother to cast a glance at him.
But then he added, “please?”
What was this feeling akin to? It was like hurtling down the highway at 120 miles per hour and suddenly encountering a speed bump.
Celeste felt irritated by his ‘please?‘
“Fine, we just have spaghetti!”
Kendric readily agreed.
Celeste headed to the kitchen. She peeled several fresh red tomatoes, diced. them and sautéed them until they turned mushy. Then she added boiling water, and patiently waited until the soup thickened. The rich aroma of tomato soup permeated the air.
“Here, have your meal.”
“You’re quite the cook,” Kendric complimented after taking a bite.
Indeed, she was skilled at cooking. It was just that Kendric had always been
too occupied for her to have the chance to cook for him.
Celeste recalled a saying she had read before – a person’s excitement are
driven by dopamine, but the effects of dopamine are short–lived. Once it fades,
recapturing that initial feeling becomes challenging. Just like this moment, she
couldn’t find the expectations and excitement to cook for him.
After the meal, Kendric kept tailing behind Celeste like a clingy cat.
When she entered the kitchen, he followed. When she returned to the living room, he trailed behind. Celeste grew weary of it and gently pushed him away
with her wrist.
“Could you please stop following me around? You should go back to your
work.”
“No work, I’m on vacation.”
Celeste turned to him, “you’re on vacation? Why did you choose this town for vacation?”
“I like this place.”
here.
Celeste silently thought. You might like it, but I don’t like your presence
Kendric leaned against the door, observing for a while. Celeste hadn’t finished washing her dishes yet.
“Do you enjoy doing chores?”
“Jesus, how did you make that absurd conclusion?”
Chapter91
Kendric lightly tapped his wristwatch. “You’ve been washing dishes for 30
minutes and 28 seconds. These 30 minutes could be spent on many other
meaningful things.‘”
Celeste laughed. “I think spending these thirty minutes washing dishes is
meaningful.”
“You could use this time to paint or do other things. Smart home appliances
can handle these chores,” he insisted.
“You believe every minute and second must be utilized for something
‘meaningful.‘ That’s your way of life, Kendric, but not mine. When I want
painting, I do it. And when I want doing chores, I do it, too. Or sometime I will
just do nothing but sit there in a trance. That’s my freedom.”
Kendric pondered her words deeply. Although he disagreed 99% of them, he didn’t argue.
“You can fully devote yourself to work, and you know why? Because there are dozens of people behind you doing these meaningless‘ household chores, handling these trivial matters,” she put the plates back on the dish rack
“But, Kendric, that’s not the life of ordinary people. Not everyone can afford to hire maids or afford the smart home appliances, so I hope you can
understand.”
Kendric could sense her displeasure, even though he didn’t know what he had done wrong or how to make amends. Still, he promptly apologized.
“I’m sincerely sorry for what I said just now.”
Celeste shook her head, “you don’t really understand our life, so there’s no
