Chapter 77
“Just tell me how should I win Celeste’s heart back?”
“One hundred million for a piece of advice!”
Kendric snorted, “dream on.”
“Well, if if a bit strapped for cash, I can give you a discount.”
“Ezra, you’re not that in dire need of money, are you?”
“Kendric, you don’t quite grasp the situation. You just need to spend some money, and I’ll help you win back your wife. You get the girl, and I get the cash. Isn’t that a win–win?”
Kendric saw right through it, “the only one winning here is you!”
“If you find the price too steep, we can haggle it down to fifty million.”
Kendric was about to hung up the phone.
“Don’t hang up. Thirty million is the rock bottom offer… okay, twenty million is on the table as well.”
“Hey, Ken, you’re not so broke that you can’t even cough up a lousy ten million, are you?”
“Fine, for the sake of our friendship, five million is okay!”
“Deal! Now tell me your advice.”
Ezra started, “tell me, do you love Celeste?”
Kendric replied in a matter–of–fact tone, “of course, otherwise why would I

marry her if I don’t love her?”
it.”
“But does Celeste even know you love her?”
Kendric stayed quiet for a while, “even if she knew, she wouldn’t believe
“I got it, but I have to say it’s not her fault. It’s yours. Next question, why did she lose trust to you? What did you do?”
“…I can’t remember them all.”
“holy, Kendric, it’s only Celeste who could put up with you for eight years. Anyone else would’ve kicked you in the ass a long time ago!”
He continued, “if you genuinely love her, the next step is making her know your love.”
“How can I get her to know?”
“Be good to her!”
“I’ve tried. It didn’t work.”
He had treated her well, but Celeste didn’t accept his kindness. His pride prevented him from consistently appearing foolish, so sometimes, even though he meant to be kind, his words came out as cold commands.
“okay, listen to my words. To be good to her, the first step is not to act all superior. You two are equals, so drop that darn arrogance of yours…”
After he hung up the phone with Ezra, Kendric sat silently in his study for a long while. The thought of Celeste’s departure weighed heavily on his mind.
He touched his cheek and stared at the tears on his fingertips.
Today as soon as Celeste walked out of her office, she ran into Cade.
Now, she had her emotions under control when meeting anyone related to Melville family.
“Mr. Caleb Melville is hospitalized. Sir visited him a few times, but he got a good beating and was kicked out every time.”
Celeste looked up in surprise, “is it serious?”
Cade thought she was asking about how badly Kendric got beaten. “Not too serious. Last time, he got a dozen or so hits on the back…”
“I was asking about grandpa.”
It had been a week since the engagement ceremony, and Celeste’s emotions had settled somewhat. She decided to visit grandpa Caleb at the hospital. She specially chose a weekday morning to avoid running into Kendric.
The morning sun filled the ward. Caleb was reading the newspaper with a pair of reading glasses. Despite electronic devices‘ prevailing, he stuck to his habit of reading the newspaper for the news.
As soon as Celeste entered, she greeted him with a warm smile, “Good morning, grandpa!”
Caleb didn’t look too angry seeing her, but he wasn’t in the best of spirits.
“Good morning.”
Celeste pulled up a chair. “Grandfather, how about I read the newspaper to

you?”
Her cautious look made Caleb let out a sigh.
“Cely, you and Ken are both too impulsive. Why you have to make thing so
complicated?”
Celeste admitted her mistake. She had put both Melville family and herself
in a dilemma.
With her head held low, she whispered, “grandpa, this is on me, so I’ve come today to apologize to you. I shouldn’t have harmed the name of Melville family. You’ve told me before that as long as Melville family is around, no one can mess with me. But now, it’s right Kendrick who’s bullying me. Should I just swallow it?”
Caleb let out a sigh.
“Cely, I’m not blaming you, but you should have told me the truth earlier.”
“Grandpa, I did tell you, but you were speaking for Kendric,” Celeste explained.
Caleb patted her head, “I was not behaving partial. I gave him a good beating that day. But I never thought things would get this serious.”
Celeste was slightly shocked, as Kendric had never mentioned it to her.
“I thought it was just some misunderstandings between you two. If I had stopped him that day, those things wouldn’t have happened. It’s my fault,” remorse flowed in Caleb’s eyes.
Celeste felt guilty. While she didn’t regret turning down the marriage, she regretted causing harm to grandpa.

“Grandpa, the reason I did this is that… Kendric used my hometown to

“Don’t worry, I won’t allow it to happen,” he assured her.
Celeste nodded. Now she was able to leave the country with a relieved

“Grandpa, I’ve got something to tell you… I’ll be going ab…”
Out of the blue, the door swung open, and in walked Kendric. Their gaze
