Chapter 73
“Celeste, you really think grandpa can stop me? Naive girl.”
Celeste tried her best to hide her unease, telling herself that this wasn’t the
worst outcome. She still had hopes.
They were locked in a standoff until the butler knocked on the door, “Mr.
Melville Sr. is awake.”
Hope glinted in Celeste’s eyes. She gave Kendric a firm push and slammed
the door behind her..
She blinked her red, puffy eyes and tried to compose herself.
“Grandpa!”
She smiled as she pushed open the door to Caleb’s bedroom. Caleb was sitting in a chair.
“Cely.”
He put down what he was holding and waved her over. “Come here.”
Celeste handed the carnation bouquet in her arms to the nearby maid and sat down obediently.
Fate had a funny way of working. Kendric’s father passed away while Celeste’s mother passed away, but they had a doting grandfather, Caleb.
Celeste’s sweetly calling him grandpa filled Caleb’s chest with joy.
They chatted for a while, and then he looked towards the door. “Where’s
Ken?”
Celeste tried to keep her expression natural. “I don’t know, probably in a
Redeemed Fenni C
meeting.”
Yet Caleb keenly picked up on the tension between them. “You had a
quarrel?”
Celeste honestly gave a nod.
“That blockhead! My fault. I spoiled him too much,” he sighed. “If he upsets
you, tell me, and I’ll kick him in the ass.
Caleb clenched his fist and struck a pose as if he was ready to throw punches.
Seeing that he was in high spirits, Celeste thought it a good chance to tell the truth, “Grandpa.”
Caleb affectionately patted her head.
“I… I don’t want to get engaged to Kendric.”
The smile on Caleb’s face didn’t fade, and he calmly asked, “is it because you haven’t thought it through? That’s okay. You two are still young, so postponing the marriage isn’t a big deal.”
“No, Grandpa,” she cut in.
“I mean, I don’t want to marry him.
The smile vanished from Caleb’s face, yet his tone remained light. “Tell me, what happened?”
His gentle tone sent Celeste some courage.
“Grandpa, I don’t like him anymore.”
Caleb was slightly taken aback. He witnessed how deeply Celeste had loved

her grandson. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have allowed them to live together and
nurture their relationship.
Caleb immediately sensed that something was amiss.
“Tell me Cely, what on earth happened to you?”
Tears welled up in Celeste’s eyes, and she rested her forehead on Caleb’s
knee.
“Don’t cry. Whatever problem you meet, Grandpa will handle it for you.”
After Celeste had calmed down, she explained how Madelyn had wrongly treated her when Caleb and Kendric wasn’t around, how the butler, Mary, and the other servants had disdained her in various ways.
She detailed how Kendric seemed indifferent to her. Most importantly, she emphasized that his overbearing and unreasonable personality made it impossible for her to have a proper conversation with him.
“Grandpa, Kendric doesn’t really love me. He’s just used to me by his side, used to my gentleness, and used to my selfless giving without expecting anything in return.”
“But I feel so hurt… I regret liking him now.”
“I didn’t
want to see him, but he caught me and even forced me onto the
boat,” she was unable to hold back her emotions any longer.
“Go get Kendric!” Caleb snapped.
Usually, Caleb only use the nickname “Ken” to call his grandson, but not when he’s boiling with wrath.

Celeste managed to squeeze out a few more tears, “Grandpa, don’t be angry.
Take care of your health.”
A nurse nearby quickly handed him some pills and comforted him, “cool
down, sir.”
“I’m fine! Go fetch a stick, the thicker, the better!”
The butler and others exchanged puzzled glances but didn’t move.
Their silence vexed Caleb more, “what, can’t I give you orders now?”
“No sir, it’s because… we don’t have any sticks here.”
Celeste chipped in, “Grandpa, we have golf clubs at home. Last time, Kendric used it to destroy my flowers.”
Caleb waved his hand, “How dare he! Bring the golf club over!”
The butler shot a glare at Celeste.
Soon, Kendric and the butler who held a golf club, entered one after the
other.
Caleb thumped the table with the golf club, making a loud noise.
“You… I told you to treat Cely properly, but you dared bully her!” he scolded.
Kendric glanced at Celeste whose eyes were red from crying.
He confessed directly, “Grandpa, I was wrong.”
Celeste thought she must have misheard, and her heart skipped a beat.
Caleb was also caught off guard by Kendric’s so prompt admission of

mistakes, “now that you realized your mistakes, will you make changes?”
Kendric lowered his head like a meek sheep, “I will.”
This was Kendric’s first–ever apology in twenty–eight years, but it was
unusually slick, as if he’d rehearsed it.
No wonder that Kendric wasn’t afraid of his grandpa. As long as he kept a
good attitude and put on a show of remorse, his grandpa would surely forgive
him.
“Kendric, stop acting! Where’s your arrogance, your slyness and your damn high–handedness? STOP ACTING!”
Kendric remained silent, and his eyes turned red. He was now hanging his head, looking deeply sad and regretful.
Damn!
Surely, Caleb softened his attitude, “Cely…”
Celeste shifted her gaze away from Kendric, “Grandpa, days ago, my dad got injured.”
“How did he get injured?”
“Grandpa, it’s my fault,” Kendric interrupted. He actively took the blame.
Caleb was more confused, “What on earth happened?”
