Chapter 63
In the evening, Celeste lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
Her mind was in disarray.
She got up and absentmindedly stared at her phone.
Over the next two days, there were no more calls from Melville family.
Celeste threw herself into her work to shake off all thoughts about Kendric.
Her overwork raised the concern of Sienna, “Cely, are you going nuts? How
late did you work last night?”
“I forgot, but it was pretty late.”
“C’mon, you need to get enough rest.
Celeste shook her head, “I can’t fall sleep anyway, so I figure I might as well -put in some overtime.”
Sienna marveled, “god, your words sound like the motto for those successful guys.”
Celeste suddenly felt like she’d heard that phrase somewhere before. It struck her that it was something Kendric often said.
She had never experienced insomnia before, but these last few sleepless nights had given her a taste of it.
Thinking that the cot might be to blame, in the next morning, Celeste
decided to go out and rent a house with a big bed.
However, the moment she opened her office door, she got a shock from the person waiting outside.

Cade was silently propped against the wall, the cigarette butt on the nearby
trash can overflowing.
“Cade? What are you doing here?”
Cade wearily rubbed his face, “I’ve been waiting for you for hours.”
“Wait for me? Why?”
“Mr. Melville’s not doing well.

Celeste furrowed her brow, “you haven’t sent him to the hospital yet.”
“No…His insomnia has been severe lately. The doctor recommended hospitalization for observation, but he refused to leave the bedroom…”
“Refuse to leave the bedroom? Then call your family doctor.”
Cade’s frown deepened, “he won’t let anyone into the bedroom either. He claimed that as soon as strangers enter, the smell inside would change.”
What kind of weird habit is that?
Cade’s expression was more complicated, “the bedroom I’m talking about is your… bedroom.”
“Thus, this situation can only be handled by you.”
What? She’s not an air freshener…
“I can’t help you with this. You better take him to the hospital right away. Running a fever non–stop isn’t a good sign.”
Cade pleaded, “Miss Alinsky, I’ve never asked anyone for help in my life. My

previous disrespect for you was a mistake. From now on, I’ll follow your lead.
I’ll do whatever you say, as long as you can… go pay him a visit.”
Celeste turned around, preparing to go inside the office. “No way. You
should go ask for doctor’s help rather than mine.”
Cade held onto the doorknob with one hand, still insisting, “I swear Mr. Melville genuinely has feelings for you. He only wants to see you.”
Celeste had a stern expression. “Which of your eyes saw that he has feelings for me?”
“Both.”
“Hey? You can even burst out such ridiculous things?”
Cade was really insistent about getting Celeste to go see Kendric.
As Sienna entered from the front gate, she spotted Cade. She greeted him, “hi, what brings you here?”
Clearly it attracted too much attention with Cade standing outside her office, so Celeste told him, “come in.”
He shot a smile at Sienna and then entered the office.
Celeste crossed her arms and stared at him, “okay, I agree to take a look at
him.”
Cade nodded, “thank you.”
Celeste grabbed her bag, “let’s go.”
In Melville family, Mary was offering comforting words to the crving

Madelyn.
“Don’t be too downhearted, Madam. Mr. Melville sent you away in a fit of
anger. Once he cools off, he’ll bring you back.”
Mary had consistently been on Madelyn side and had never gotten along
with Celeste. Thus she was afraid if Madelyn left, Celeste would take the hold of
this family.
Madelyn wiped her tears away, clutching Mary’s hand. “Is that so? I’m really scared that Kendric has made up his mind to never bring me back.”
Mary reassured her, “that won’t happen. After all you’re his mother.”
Madelyn’s delicate makeup was slightly smudged from crying. “But I really don’t want to leave. Is there any way for me to stay?”
Mary pondered for a moment. “What if… we invite Mr. Caden Bates to be the persuader?”
“Mr. Bates was close friends with Mr. Melville’s father. Over the
years, Bates and Melville families have been in close contact. If Mr. Bates puts in á good word for you, Mr. Melville might change his mind.”
Caden Bates and Kendric’s father were best buddies. After Kendric’s father passed away, Caden offered his help to Kendric in many ways. That’s why later on, Kendrie was willing to collaborate with Bates family on various projects, even when he had better options.
Madelyn thought this was a brilliant idea and nodded in agreement.
Mary continued, “it just so happens that this weekend is Mr. Bates‘
birthday. Sir is sure to be invited. At the birthday party, we plead with Mr. Bates

to persuade him, and it’s bound to work.”

Only then did Madelyn stop crying, and a smile finally reappeared on her
As Cade entered with Celeste, they spotted Mary chatting with Madelyn on
the sofa. When Mary saw Celeste, she remained unmoved.
Cade scolded her lightly, “mind your manners.
Mary reluctantly stood up and greeted Celeste, “Miss Alinsky.”
“Save it. I can’t handle your politeness.”
Celeste went upstairs alone.
She gently pushed open the bedroom door, only to see an empty bed. She thought Kendric might be bedridden due to illness, but the situation wasn’t as dire as she had thought.
She then turned and went to the study, lightly knocking on the door.
“Come in.”
