Chapter 61
Suddenly, the front door swung open, and Manuel walked in. “What’s so
funny?”
Celeste heard his voice. Her smiling face turned into a surprised
expression..
Sienna hurriedly whispered, “I honestly didn’t know my brother was coming back tonight. Just this morning, he was still in another city.”
Celeste shot her a glare. She knew Sienna definitely did it on purpose. She raised her hand as if she was about to give Sienna a good beating. “You dare lie
me.I’m
to me. I’m gonna teach you a good lesson.”
Sienna let out a fake wail and quickly sought refuge behind her brother. “Manuel, help me, Celeste’s gonna hit me.”
She dashed away so fast that Celeste had intended to grab her ponytail but ended up accidentally touching Manuel’s back.
He turned around, wearing a smile that was hard to read. “Hey? You don’t welcome me?”
Celeste chuckled. “This is your home. Anyone who isn’t welcoming you, just show them the door.”
Manuel laughed and, out of habit, reached to pat her head.
Celeste cleared her throat and pretended to go look for Sienna, avoiding his
hand.
Manuel’s hand paused in the air, and he watched Celeste’s back with a wistful grin.
Myles and Alexander had caught quite a few fish, so tonight’s dinner was a
fish feast.
Cleaning fish was a bit of a skill, and Cade actively took over this task.
He skillfully scaled, gutted, and cleaned a five or six–pound fish in one go.
Manuel smoked quietly and watched. Suddenly, he asked, “what kind of
work did you do before working for Kendric?”
Kendric glanced up.
Manuel grinned, “you are quite skillful.”
Cade sneered, “killing a fish isn’t that complicated. It’s not like killing a
person.”
Manuel narrowed his eyes but didn’t say anything.
In the kitchen, Celeste was helping Mrs. Vader to cook the dinner. Mrs. Vader was modest, friendly, and easy to talk to, and Celeste felt relaxed staying
with her.
As they chatted, Sienna burst into the kitchen, her eyes filled with excitement as she waved her arms, “ah! That old guy outside looks so cool!”
“Old guy? Who?” Celeste turned her head to see.
After a moment, it dawned on her who Sienna was talking about, and she grinned, “Cade is only ten years older than your brother and fourteen years older than both of us.”
Sienna seemed disbelieved, “is he really that young?”

fish.”
She gazed out the window, “well, he looks pretty cool when he’s killing the
At seven in the evening, as night fell, dinner began.
Celeste had just picked up her fork when Cade pushed the door open and
walked directly to her.
Leaning in close, he whispered a few words in her ear, and Celeste’s face
instantly turned pale.
She set down her fork and said, “excuse me, I need to step out for a
moment. You all go ahead and eat. Don’t wait for me.” then she pushed the door
open and left.
The people at the table exchanged puzzled looks. Manuel immediately got
up, taking Celeste’s coat, “I’ll go check.”
Sienna also stood up, “I’ll go with you.”
“No one should go,” Myles boomed, “trust her, she can handle it.” His words.
conveyed it clearly who had arrived.
Myles knew his daughter very well. She went out without saying a word,
which meant she didn’t want anyone to know Kendric’s arrival.
Celeste sensitive and fearful of causing trouble for them. Myles respected her wishes, “None of you should go. Don’t make her embarrassed.”
The dinning room fell in a heavy silence. Manuel’s face turned gloomy.
Celeste stormed out, treading on the moonlight on the ground.

Kendric’s car was parked outside.
Cade followed her, and he darted to the car door first. After he swung it
open, he signaled for her to get in.
Celeste didn’t move a muscle, her eyes fixed on the man inside the car.
A few seconds later, a hand extended from the car, “get in.”
Celeste stood there with arms crossed, “no, you get off.”
The standoff lasted for over a minute, and even Cade, who was standing
nearby, began to sweat.
In the end, Kendric stepped out of the car.
“Why did you come?”
From the depths of her heart, she thought he came for bad intention.
Kendric had just returned from his trip, and he couldn’t hide the weariness
in his eyes.
As Celeste confronted him, he kept his lips sealed.
Celeste exhausted her last shred of patience, “Kendric Melville, how many times do I have to tell you? I don’t want you coming here. I don’t want you disturbing Vader family or my dad’s life.”
“I also don’t want you constantly check up on my whereabouts every time when I’m out. Do you get it?”
Of course, he didn’t accept it. None of the things she mentioned were things he believed he couldn’t do. Since childhood, he had never been bound by anyone or anything.

In the past, his family possessed a priceless heirloom, an antique vase.
They placed it in the study, and since childhood, everyone told him it was
incredibly precious and not to be touched.
When Kendric was six years old, he played alone in the study and
accidentally shattered the vase.
That evening, his grandfather returned home and found the porcelain.
shards strewn across the floor. He asked sternly, “who did this?”
Fearlessly, Kendric stepped forward and confessed, “I broke it.”
Caleb was so furious that he was ready to punish him, but Kendric stood his ground.
He looked up at his grandfather and questioned, “everyone says this vase is priceless. So, in this family, which is more important, the vase or me?”
Caleb was momentarily taken aback. He hadn’t expected such boldness from his grandson.
“Let me tell you, this vase isn’t more important than you, but since you broke it, you should be punished.”
Kendric was merely six years old at the time, yet he already understood that people’s boundaries could be tested. The vase was significant, but breaking it resulted in just a couple of spankings.
To Kendric, Celeste’s boundaries seemed as fragile as the thin ice on lake. He couldn’t grasp why Celeste held Vader family in such high regard.
“Why can’t I come?” Kendric’s expression had changed from the moment Celeste uttered the first sentence.

“Because you’re not welcome here. Get it?”
She didn’t hide her disdain in her eyes. “Kendric, you can’t just go wherever
you please.”
“What if I insist to come?”
“Then over my dead body!”
When Celeste raised her head, she was shocked. She had never witnessed
so much sadness in a his eyes, as if it would overflow with just one more drop.
Celeste felt a bit regret. She parted her lips but ended up keeping quiet.
Kendric stared at her for a long time, and then his hoarse voice sounded.
“I’m not going inside.”
He turned away and got in the car.
“Cade, take the things from the trunk.”
He brought a bunch of gifts from France, Wines, fishing gear, perfumes – all carefully chosen by him, but now they were dumped on the roadside like junk.
Cade hesitated whether to tell Celeste. Yet Kendric ordered, “let’s go.”
Cade couldn’t help but mutter, “sir’s been sick for a whole week.”
Celeste thought back to his pale face and heavy breaths. She gazed after the car with mixed emotions.
