Chapter 57
Kendric opened his eyes. “How long had I slept?”
“Less than twenty minutes.”
It was evident that Kendric thought he had slept for a few hours.
Celeste knew his sleep quality had always been subpar, which was one of the reasons for his frequent overtime. Every time he couldn’t fall asleep, he
would choose to get up and work.
“Why don’t you go back to your own bedroom and get some rest?”
Kendric, who had just woken up, seemed a bit groggy. He posed a stupid
question, “Why does your bed feel different from mine?”
“What do you mean by ‘different?”
After a long pause, he finally found a word, “cozy. Yours is cozier than
mine. What’s that fragrance on your bed?”
Celeste was nearly exasperated by his words.
His bedroom was equipped with top–of–the–line furnishings, a genuine leather bed imported from Italy and meticulously chosen silk bedding. Yet, he
had the audacity to claim her bed was more comfortable?
“The smell of laundry detergent! Now go back to your own bedroom and get
some sleep.”
After Celeste had kicked Kendric out of the room, she flopped onto her bed
and took a sniff. Apart from the detergent scent, there was nothing else, and she
was growing more convinced that Kendric had just been making excuses.

After some rest, Celeste planned to visit her dad in the afternoon, but
Kendric insisted on tagging along, and she didn’t want Kendric’s arrival to ruin.
her father’s mood.
So, she changed her mind and went to the studio alone. She stayed there
until a little past eight in the evening.
Kendric called once to ask where she was. Celeste simply replied that she
was at the studio and promptly hung up.
After that call, Kendric didn’t ring her again, which was totally not his
style.
Yes, that’s the question. It seemed Kendric had changed a lot recently. The
most obvious change was that he became more easy to communicate, more like
a normal person.
It was like he’d gone from being clueless of love to suddenly receiving
guidance from a love expert.
But, Celeste thought, considering Kendric’s personality, he probably
wouldn’t be taking love advice from anyone.
Perhaps she was overthinking it.
When she got back home, Celeste found Kendric sitting in the living room.
She glanced at the clock, a quarter past nine.
She thought Kendric was about to lose his cool because she broke his
fucking 9 o’clock curfew again, but to her surprise, he simply said, “come back
earlier next time.”
Then he acted like he had just run into her by coincidence, and he walked

past Celeste toward upstairs.
Celeste was bewildered.
Janney came over to take her bag and explained with a smile, “sir had been waiting you as soon as he finished dinner.”
Celeste watched Kendric’s back until his figure disappeared from her sight.
She hadn’t done anything, so why was he acting so out of character
recently?
After her shower, Celeste took it upon herself to call Mrs. Jones. She began
with some compliments, then extended a sincere invitation for Mrs. Jones to
come give the class the next day.
Mrs. Jones was flattered by the praise and enthusiastically promised to be
there on time.
After she hung up, Celeste also extended an invitation to Mrs. Brown and
Ellie Grayson to join them tomorrow.
Finally, Celeste made a call to her father.
They chatted for a bit, and Celeste couldn’t help but wonder how Cade was getting along with his father. But since her father didn’t speak ill of him, Celeste guessed that Cade hadn’t done anything too outrageous.
As the clock approached ten, Celeste put down her phone. She’s looking forward to the following day, so she decided to get a good night’s rest.
She was sleeping soundly well when a series of knocks on the door rudely roused her from her slumber.

Still a bit disoriented, she opened her eyes and checked the time.
One o’clock in the morning.
Before she could utter a word, the person outside the door came in without
permission. It was Kendric, dressed in his black silk pajama, appearing weary
and restless.
bed.
Then, right before Celeste’s incredulous gaze–he plopped down onto her
???
“Why did you come to my room at midnight?” She emphasized “at midnight“.
Kendric had clearly been battling insomnia for more than just a night or two. The dark circles under his eyes couldn’t be ignored.
“I couldn’t fall asleep in my bedroom.”
Celeste was shocked by his shamelessness. That’s the reason for him to creep into someone else’s bed in the middle of the night?
Kendric shifted into a more comfortable position, as if he was about to drift off to sleep. Celeste pulled away the pillow under his head, and he opened his eyes with displeasure.
“Can you think of a better excuse? The bedding in your room probably costs more than ten sets of mine. How could you not fall asleep?”
Kendric shook his head, “they smell different.”
“You can have your sheets washed tomorrow. Then they’ll be full of the

detergent smell.”
He persisted, “they’ve already been washed, but it’s just not that smell.”
Celeste was left speechless.
“Any other questions? If not, I’m going to sleep,” he closed his eyes directly.
Damn! How could he be so shameless!
Celeste tried to nudge him awake, but failed. She leaned closer, thinking about giving him a slap to wake him, but then she noticed the bruises on his face hadn’t completely faded. She couldn’t bring herself to do it.
To be honest, if Kendric had ordered her in his usual forceful manner, she could reasonably retort him. But the way he was now caught her off guard. She vented her frustration by vigorously thumping her pillow onto him a couple of times before storming out the room with it.
