Chapter 37
Kendric’s sudden appearance sent shivers down Celeste’s spine. It was like
she’d been a marionette, thinking she had her freedom, but when she turned
around, she realized the strings were always in his hands.
She instinctively took a step back.
“Come here,” he commanded again.
Celeste shook her head, but Kendric reached out towards her, “I won’t
repeat myself.”
Celeste didn’t move a muscle. She stayed silent. Maybe she got the courage from the alcohol, or perhaps she got it from Manuel’s presence.
“No.” she said.
A slight twitch in the muscles on Kendric’s cheek and a tighter jaw were signs that he was getting angry.
In the next moment, he stepped out of the car, and his leather shoes trod on the concrete ground. He shot Celeste a cold glance.
Then he walked past her straight to Manuel.
Both men shared a similar imposing stature. Kendric’s suit was impeccably buttoned. In contrast, Manuel’s suit was casually unbuttoned, revealing a white shirt underneath, giving off a more relaxed vibe.
“You’re the one who called her here,” Kendric asked.
“Yes, so what?”
Kendric looked down upon anyone he disliked, no matter who they were.
Redeemed From Caged Love
This tendency was even more pronounced when he faced Manuel who could
potentially be seen as his romantic rival.
Kendric’s tone and choice of words turned infuriatingly provocative.
He scoffed, “Manuel Vader, son of Marshal Alexander Vader.”
Manuel put on a fake smile, “you seem to know me well, anything else.”
“You were promoted to senior prosecutor this year after cracking a major
organized crime case.”
Manuel’s expression changed subtly upon hearing his words.
Even Celeste grasped the underlying threat of Kendric’s words. A sudden fear gripped her- the fear that Vader family, or Manuel, might lose this hard–earned opportunity because of her.
Her anxiety surged, and she urgently seized Kendric’s hand, “I’ll listen to you. Let’s head back now.”
“You think Vader family can protect you?” he whispered to her ear.
Celeste shook her head, “let’s go back.
She tried her best to hide her fear. If she had known that Kendric would do harm to Vader family, she would never have agreed to attend this birthday gathering.
Kendric held her hand tightly, “I said, I won’t repeat my words.”
Celeste stiffened.
Manuel quickly regained his composure. “Mr. Melville, you’re a
businessman, well aware of the importance of knowing your adversaries.”

“You know me well, but would you like to take a look at this customs.
declaration list I have?”
Melville family was heavily involved in import and export, dealing with
countless shipments annually. The customs procedures were intricate, and any
delays could result in their multimillion–dollar losses.
Kendric hated being threatened.
Celeste worried that things would escalate, so she quickly intervened,
“Manuel, it’s late. You should take Sienna home now.”
She stared at Manuel with pleading eyes.
Sienna was also scared by this scene. She gently tugged at her brother’s
sleeve, whispering, “Manuel, maybe we should leave now.”
Manuel remained unmoved. He turned to Celeste, “wanna come with us?”
Reason prevailed in her mind. Celeste couldn’t afford to put Vader family in
danger, even if Kendric might be bluffing. It was a risk she couldn’t take. She
shook her head, and Manuel reluctantly conceded.
Sienna had to use all her strength to pull her brother away.
Celeste stood still, not daring looking back.
She never anticipated things would take such a turn. She had no idea.
Kendric had investigated Vader family, and that Manuel had also delved into Melville Group.
Kendric held Celeste, who was as fragile as a startled deer, tightly in his arms. He sensed her trembling and her fear. She huddled deeply within his embrace, her chest pressing against his.

Celeste’s fingers quivered as she clutched Kendric’s collar. She’s trying to
conceal her vulnerability.
But her red–rimmed eyes betrayed her inner turmoil. With all the strength
she could muster, she warned him, “Kendric, I warn you, never… never hurt
Vader family.”
Over these eight years, Vader family had been the only place where she had
felt warmth and respect.
Kendric’s shirt was damp from her tears.
He reassured her, “as long as they abide by the rules, I won’t do anything to
them.”
“Kendric, what the hell your truly want?”
He lowered his head, his gaze intense and full of longing. “I want… I want
us to go back to how things used to be.”
Tears streamed down Celeste’s face as she laughed. “In your dreams!”
He firmly held onto her shoulders, “even if it’s a dream, I’ll make it a reality.”
Ignoring her resistance, Kendric brought her into the car.
Inside the car, Celeste sat with her back to him, leaning against the window, keeping her distance.
Kendric didn’t mind it. As long as she was within his sight, he felt content.
“Don’t forget, I have prepared a surprise for you. I’m sure you’ll love it.”
Celeste closed her eyes.
As Kendric’s car pulled into the courtyard, butler Kash cagerly came.
forward to open the door.
He stood there with a wide smile, but when he opened the door, it was
Celeste who stepped out of the car first. Kash momentarily froze, and then he
greeted her,“Miss Alinsky.”
Celeste forcefully slammed the door, creating a loud thud that caught the
attention of all the others in the courtyard, including Madelyn.
Celeste’s expression turned colder as she saw Madelyn. “Stop staring at me!” she snapped.
Celeste’s explosive temperament had rendered Madelyn utterly speechless. She stood there with her mouth agape.
Kendric stepped out of the car and trailed behind Celeste,
Madelyn halted him.
“Ken… why is she in such a foul mood?” Madelyn had never seen any lady
behave so aggressively, utterly lacking in manners.
Kendric sounded rather indifferent, “let her be.”
Madelyn was left without words, after all, Kendric was the master of this
family.
“The maid has prepared some food, would you like some?”
Kendric shook his head, “no need,” but then he thought of Celeste’s almost emaciated cheeks. “Send some upstairs.”

“Oh, and, prepare another guest room.”
“Guest room? For whom?” Madelyn was puzzled.
