Chapter 22
Mary reminded Kendric, “Mr. Melville, you’ve got a meeting with
representatives of Champ Real Estate this morning to discuss the tourism project of Brook Town.”
Kendric finished wiping the last leaf, “I’ve got something to handle this morning. No any work arrangements for me.”

Mary took a sharp breath. This didn’t sound like her workaholic boss at all!
Kendric directly headed upstairs on his own, leaving the assistants in the
courtyard looking utterly perplexed.
“What’s the boss getting at? Is he giving himself a day off?”
“A day off? Didn’t he say he’s got something to handle today?”
“What could be more important to him than work?”
Mary was deeply puzzled. She went through her work from the past few
days meticulously and found no mistakes or negligence. Furthermore, Kendric
didn’t appear to be in a bad mood.
So, what could it be?
She was lost in thought when her phone rang.
“Come upstairs.” Kendric said.
Mary put down her documents and headed upstairs.
She assumed Kendric would be in the study, but he wasn’t there. Then
another phone call came with a simple directive, “cloakroom.”
When Mary arrived at the entrance of the cloakroom, she noticed that the

door was open. As soon as she entered, she was taken aback by the sheer size of
the cloakroom. It was even larger than her bedroom.
Kendric was standing in front of a row of suits.
“Do you know Celeste well?”
Mary didn’t quite get why he was asking such a question. “Yeah, we’re on
good terms.”
How could she know Celeste well? They had an age gap of more than ten years, and they seldom have conversations.
“Which suit do you think will suit her taste?”
Mary felt like she had just been through a bombardment of shock.
After all, Kendric was someone who never cared much about his attire. Throughout the year, he practically lived in suits except when he was sleeping.
Today, he was actually asking her which suit will suit Celeste’s taste?!
Mary’s mind raced with countless thoughts. Has Mr. Melville gone insane?
Is their company going bankrupt?
“Which one?” Kendric frowned, especially when he noticed Mary’s stunned
expression.
Mary pointed to a black trench coat in the middle, “I think Miss Alinsky
might like this one.”
Kendric turned around and found the coat oddly familiar.
Mary certainly had good taste. That trench coat was a birthday gift Celeste
had given him last year, though he had never worn it.

Kendric thought to himself that Celeste would probably be thrilled if he wore this coat sent by her, so he picked this one without hesitation.
After changing his clothes, he saw Mary still waiting outside.
“Anything else?” he asked.
Mary mustered her courage, “are you planning a date, sir?”
Kendric halted in his tracks. Date? He hadn’t considered that. He’d simply
intended to pick up Celeste.
Mary plucked up her nerve again, “sir, if you’re heading out for a date, you might bring some flowers or a little gift. Miss Alinsky would surely like it.”
Though he hadn’t initially planned for a date, Mary’s suggestion sounded intriguing, so he changed his plans on the spot.
“Push back all my work scheduled this afternoon.”
“Oh, and book a bouquet of roses,” he ordered.
Mary was taken aback, but she quickly composed herself. “Certainly, I’ll
take care of it.”
“Where do people usually go for dates?”
“My husband and I typically catch a music concert, visit art exhibitions, or
dine at a cozy restaurant,” she advised.
That sounded appealing. “okay, then make those arrangements.”
Mary jotted down the details in her notebook and, when she looked up, she
saw her boss cheerfully heading down the stairs.
This is unbelievable! Mr. Melville is actually going on a date?

When the car pulled up outside Celeste’s apartment, it was exactly nine in the morning. The driver glanced in the rear–view mirror and softly reminded, “Mr. Melville, we arrived.”
Kendric’s gaze shifted away from his laptop to the roses sitting on the back seat. His eyes couldn’t hide the disgust. If those roses weren’t meant for Celeste, he’d probably have chucked them in the trash without a second thought.
Why would girls like these?
Despite his distaste, he picked up the roses and headed upstairs.
Outside the apartment door, he knocked and stood outside with a smile.
Time passed quietly, and several minutes went by without a peep from inside.
The smile on his face gradually faded, and his gaze got sharper.
Staring at the closed door, his expression turned serious. He looked at the
roses in his hand and suddenly found it so ironic. The joy and anticipation in
his heart vanished.
It felt like he had crashed down from the clouds into an icy lake,
overwhelmed by an unprecedented sense of betrayal.
He kept his eyes firmly locked on the door.
After a long dead silence, he turned around and ordered the man behind,
“open the door.”
