Chapter 19
door.
The next morning, Celeste was jolted awake by a loud knocking on her
She groggily turned over from the couch, and outside, it was already broad
daylight. She squinted at the bright window in a trance.
“Celeste, are you in there? Open the door!!!”
Celeste recognized the voice as Sienna’s, and with some effort, she got up
from the couch. She cleared her throat. “Coming!”
When she swung the door open, Sienna lunged at her, wrapping her in a
bear hug.
“You nearly scared me to death!”
Celeste was perplexed, “what’s going on?”
Sienna heard her hoarse voice, “are you coming down with a cold?”
“Perhaps, a bit.”
Sienna felt her forehead, “damn! You’ve got a fever!”
Celeste touched her own forehead, indeed, it was running a slight
temperature, “why did you come?”
Sienna rolled her eyes, “you didn’t answer my calls. I thought what if you
fell in a coma or something?”
Celeste thought it nothing to be fussy about. She had only taken a nap. She
yawned and was about to go fetch some water.
Sienna showed her wristwatch, “take a look, it’s already 3 o’clock in the

afternoon.
“What?!” Celeste opened her bleary eyes wide, “3 o’clock? Did I sleep that
long?”
Sienna rolled her eyes at her.
“You stayed up last night?” She followed Celeste around the cramped
apartment, scanning the surroundings.
“Kendric came over yesterday,” Celeste sighed.
Sienna was munching on snacks she took from the coffee table. When she heard that, she immediately dropped her snacks and pricked up her ears..
“And then?”
Celeste took a sip of water to clear her throat, “there’s no ‘and then.‘ I
kicked him out.“.
“Pff! You gotta be joking. You didn’t go back with him?”
“Of course not. I gave him a piece of my mind, told him we’re done, and told him to get out of my face.”
Sienna still showed her doubt. “You really scolded him?”
Celeste nodded without changing her expression, causing Sienna to turn pale as a sheet, even dropping her snacks to the floor.
“You… you actually did?!”
Celeste nodded again, stone–faced. Sienna’s hands began to shake.
“Cely, we better pack our luggage now.” Sienna started packing her bag.
“You dared scold Kendric Melville. He will come after you for this.”

“Even though you have made up your mind to break up, you should piss
him off!”
The more Sienna thought about it, the more worked up she got. She poked
Celeste on the forehead, “are you daft? This is pretty dangerous! What if
Kendric gets furious and, well, you know… did that kind of thing to punish
you…”
“That kind of thing?”
“Like imprisoned you or handcuffed you to the bed, and taught you a good. lesson.”
Celeste rolled her eyes, “you’re wasting your creative talents not writing
novels.”
Sienna suggested, “what about you come to my home for a couple of days. If everything’s fine, we can hunt for a new place to stay. I have security guards
around the clock. Kendric won’t dare to cause trouble there.”
Sienna plotted an elaborate escape plan in her mind. Celeste quietly watched her and finally she said, “actually, what I just told you…”
“It’s all a dream I had last night.”
Sienna exclaimed, “you… seriously? I thought you really… I even scoped out. escape routes for you, and it was all just a dream? Damn! You successfully freaked me out.”
Η
Celeste chuckled, but her eyes betrayed a hint of sadness. “Even you think that if I get on the wrong side of Kendric and his family, it’s game over for me?”
Sienna grumbled, “isn’t it obvious?”

“But what if… I have to go against him this time?”
Sienna’s face paled in fear. “Honey, can’t we handle this more delicately? No
need to spite him.
Sienna persuaded, “don’t act on impulse. You know how men are about their pride. He’ll definitely take it hard if you’re the one to initiate the breakup,
and he’ll feel like he got dumped. He won’t want to lose face.”
Celeste pondered Kendric’s words from last night, the ones that had hit her
right in the heart. Was it all because he couldn’t swallow his pride?
Sienna feared that Celeste would go to some extreme action. She tried to
reason with her. “Honey, let’s take it slow. Just wait till he is more accepting of
the breakup thing. By then, they won’t pressure you too much, and your life will
be better.”
Even Sienna hadn’t actually expected Celeste to muster the courage to bring
up breaking up with Kendric.
But now that Celeste had broached the topic, a question arose. What if
Melville family decides to get back at Celeste?
If word gets out that Celeste initiated the breakup and Kendric got dumped
by her, Melville family might get all riled up and seek revenge on her. It’s not
out of the question.
Thinking about this, Sienna couldn’t help but worry, “how about we hire a
few bodyguards, you know, round–the–clock protection?”
་་
Celeste scooped up a spoonful of honey and stirred it slowly. “Kendric has a whole crew at his disposal, each of those folks with distinguished skills, snipers, fighters, martial artists, and boxers.”
Sienna almost broke into a cold sweat, “seriously… for real?”
“Absolutely.”
Sienna hesitantly proposed, “what if… we, uh, run away?”
Celeste grinned, “not a bad idea.“
