Myles seemed very displeased with Celeste keeping these matters from him,

Myles stood with his hands behind his back, facing the glass window. He
stood just opposite Celeste, but Celeste felt, at this moment, that her dad was far
away from her.

Kendric smiled, “we will.”

After dinner, Myles called Celeste to the study for a ‘good talk.‘ Kendric cast
her a sympathetic gaze.
Celeste gave a pleading look, “won’t you come and save me? So you’re now
on the same side as my dad? You’re not helping me at all!”
Kendric smirked, “as adults, we should bravely face the reality. Good luck,
Cely.”
When Celeste entered the study, Myles was looking through her childhood
photo album. Under the lamplight, he was wearing his reading glasses and
squinting to carefully examine the pictures.
Celeste approached quietly, “dad.”
Myles deliberately maintained a stern face.
Celeste chuckled, “dad, what are you gonna talk to me?”
Myles turned a deaf ear to her and kept focusing on the album. Celeste leaned in, “what are you looking at? That’s my childhood photos…. I’m not cool
at all back then.”
Myles snorted, “you were cuter back then than now. Now you’ve even
learned to lie.”
Celeste gave an awkward smile, “dad, I didn’t mean to. I just didn’t want you to be worried.”
“About your health… When did Kendric find out?” Myles came straight to the point.
“He has long known it, even before I knew.

knew?”
Celeste calculated the time, “yeah.”
“Then what about his grandfather?”
“He knew it too.”
“I don’t think so,” Myles held a different opinion.
“Dad, what do you mean?”
Myles changed another question, “how did Kendric find out?”
Celeste recalled, “it probably happened when I was still living in Melville
family. One day, I fainted from stomach pain, and when I woke up, I was in the
hospital. It was likely that his doctor did the examination for me. At that time,
Grandpa Caleb had already moved to Beacon Senior Care, so it makes sense if
you say he doesn’t know.”
Then she realized, “wait, dad! Are you saying that Kendric deliberately kept my condition from Grandpa?”
To be honest, Celeste didn’t quite believe that Kendric would do that, because he never deceives or hides anything from Grandpa.

“What makes you ask this?”

He pondered for a few seconds. “Love is… when you love someone, you
can’t stand a second without her.”
Celeste rested her head on his chest, “Kendric, let me answer for you.”
“Love is like a fairy tale world, a realm without harm, without any unpleasantness. You place the person you love in it, letting her live in a world full of happiness.”
In the past, Celeste’s heart was riddled with wounds. She thought she would. never trust anyone again, nor would she throw herself into the so–called love. But she had never been so moved as she was today.
Kendric seemed a bit nervous and cleared his throat. “Is this kind of love not good?”
“Of course, it’s good. Perhaps the most beautiful love in the world is just like this, too beautiful that I’ve never dared to believe.”
“So now, Cely, are you willing to accept this love?”
She closed her eyes to hold back the tears, “yes.”

about me.”
After her father left, Celeste didn’t rush to move back to Melville family.
These days, Kendric had brought many of his belongings here. Although the
apartment was small, it had convenient transportation because it was close to
her new studio. So, she and Kendric tacitly made no mention of moving back.
At first, Kendric wasn’t quite used to the life here. For example, wardrobe

This morning, both of them were awakened early by the sound of
renovation from the next door. The bedroom was dim as the thick curtains
blocked the outside sunlight.

“Cade?” Celeste was surprised, “what’s going on?”
Cade smiled and explained, “sir has bought your next–door apartment. He
plans to turn it into a study, a dressing room, and a gym.”
Celeste recalled the advice she had given Kendric the day before.
That’s the different way of thinking between the poor and the wealthy, she thought. The poor avoid trouble. The wealthy, on the other hand, face challenges head–on, solving problems with money.
