Chapter 149
Bedroom.
Kendric was lying on Celeste’s bed. He was actually a bit drunk. His cheeks.
were faintly flushed. He half–closed his eyes, like a lion dozing off.
He kept glancing towards the door while his ears perked up, quietly
listening to the sounds outside.
The doorbell rang. It’s Cade. He brought the family doctor from Melville
family.
Because Myles and Kendric both had consumed so much alcohol, Celeste
was worried and made a call to the family doctor.
The doctor first examined Myles. His blood pressure and heart rate were
both normal. Celeste finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Having finally settled her father, Celeste hurried to check on Kendric. The
family doctor was measuring his blood pressure, but he was extremely
uncooperative.
He even threw the blood pressure monitor to the ground, and snarled at
them.
Quite audacious! Celeste stood with her hands on her hi
hips.
Cade cast Celeste a pleading gaze as she entered. Kendric also noticed
Celeste’s arrival. He stood up and stumbled towards her.
“Ce–Cely.”
Celeste deliberately put on a stern face, “why didn’t you follow doctor’s
advise?”

Kendric’s smile froze, then he obediently sat back down to let the doctor
measure his blood pressure.
“What happened to your forehead, sir?” The doctor noticed the scrape on
his forehead. The doctor used an iodine swab to disinfect the scrape and then
put on an adhesive bandage on his forehead.
Kendric was impatient. He wore a scowl the entire time. But since Celeste
was standing beside, he had to endure his dissatisfaction.
Finally it’s done, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Kendric flashed a
smug smile like a primary school student who had finally completed a task,
“Cely.”
Celeste sighed. She accompanied Cade and the doctor to the door. Before
they left, she asked Cade, “is Kendric really drunk?”
Cade smiled, “he’s usually swiftly sloshed, but he’s good at pretending. Even if he’s completely drunk, you can’t tell it from his face.”
“Oh my god, he looks…” She paused. He looks like a normal one if you neglect his childish behaviors.
Cade smiled, “I could tell he’s happy today.”
Celeste returned to her bedroom, only to find Kendric holding a contract and reading it.
“Cely, I feel dizzy.”
Celeste walked over and closed his laptop. “Of course you do. Come on, lie
down. A nap will help you shake off the headache.”
But Kendric showed clear resistance. “I’m not sleepy.”

Celeste rolled her eyes. She opened her own laptop and responded to work
emails. But she could feel his burning gaze sticking on her back.
“Why are you looking at me?”
Kendric patted the bed beside him. “Um, I’m a bit sleepy now.”
“Then lie down and have a good sleep.”
“Sleep with me,” he blurted out.
Why should she coax a drunkard to sleep? Fine, it was all to prevent him
from causing more trouble.
Celeste had no choice but to take off her coat and lie down on the bed. She
planned to get up to work once Kendric fell asleep.
They lay side by side. Celeste yawned, “okay now close your eyes.”
“You found anything special about me today?”
“Huh? Oh, ye–yep, I found you especially cute today.”
Kendric smirked and closed his eyes, “sing me a song.”
“Hey, enough is enough!”
Kendric obediently shut his mouth, but he kept turning and tossing beside,
Celeste sighed, “I’ll play a song for
you. Just don’t move.” She got up to fetch
her phone and selected a lullaby.
The soothing music slowly filled the room and eased their nerves.
Drowsiness slowly engulfed Celeste’s consciousness.
“Cely, Cely, are you asleep?” Kendric patted her lightly.
Redo
“Urgh, why are you still awake?” Celeste forced her eyes open.
“I’m not sleepy.”
She was nearly driven mad by him, “close your eyes! Even if you’re not
sleepy, close your eyes and sleep!”
Kendric quickly closed his eyes.
But he wouldn’t shut his mouth. Celeste decided to turn a deaf ear to his
chattering.
He probably realized that Celeste was deliberately not responding to him.
“Cely, I took a fall.”
Celeste immediately opened her eyes, “when? Did you get hurt?”
Kendric pointed to his forehead, “I got a scrape.”
She touched his bandage, “when did you fall?”
“Just now. While you were in the living room.”
“Why didn’t you tell me? Luckily, it’s just a scrape.”
“I was afraid you’d worry.”
Because he was afraid she would worry, after stumbling and falling, he struggled to stand up.
“Then why are you telling me now?”
He smiled, “because I want you to worry about me.”
Celeste sighed, “you should have told me right away after you fell.”
“I think it would be better if you asked me proactively.”
Celeste felt as if a hammer had struck her heart hard.
Kendric didn’t tell her because he wanted Celeste to show concern on her
own. It was like kids who, when they fall outside, doesn’t cry because there’s no
one around. But when they come home, they will cry and expose the wound to
their parents, seeking comfort.
Just to hear them ask in a caring tone, “oh, baby, how did you get hurt?”
Kendric held onto such expectations. But she was just thinking about how
to get him to sleep as quickly as possible and get rid of the trouble.
“I’m sorry, Kendric,” she apologized, “I shouldn’t have been so neglectful
and not even noticed that you were injured.”
Kendric shook his head, “it’s not that painful, actually. I just felt… a bit sore
in the heart. I didn’t want you to worry, but at the same time, I was afraid that
you wouldn’t worry.”
Kendric soon fell asleep. This time, it was Celeste’s turn to be haunted by
sleeplessness. She stared without blinking at Kendric’s wound.
A voice in her heart asked, ‘if you really love him, why didn’t you even
notice his injury?‘
Perhaps because it was a just a scrap, she thought it wasn’t that serious, so she didn’t inquire. But in Kendric’s eyes, it meant differently. He was probably feeling quite disappointed.
Celeste gently touched his wound, and her heart was filled with mixed
emotions. For the first time, she reflected on her actions in this relationship.
