Chapter 143
At this moment, Kendric’s gaze was exactly the same as when Celeste had
escaped but caught bu him again. However, she would no longer become his
prey.
She calmly told him, “see? Your nature won’t change. You can’t do what you
promised. Why bother asking me?”
The last glint in his eyes dimmed, “let’s drop it.”
Celeste had no choice but to fall silent. She quietly looked outside the car.
Tonight, Kendric had probably had some drinks, or maybe Sienna’s happy wedding had touched him. However, the joy and anticipation in his heart were..
now completely chilled by her.
Around nine o’clock, they arrived at the villa.
The headlight illuminated the gate.
Feared that Kendric might have got a bit drunk, Celeste intended to hold his arm and support him. But he had already stepped out of the car with large strides. He didn’t even spare a glance at her.
Celeste gazed after his lonely figure and let out a sigh.
Cade got out of the car. He heard their conversation inside the car. Predictably, Kendric got angry. Cade couldn’t help sighing, “why do you have to test him like this? Using the idea of leaving abroad to provoke him.”
Celeste’s voice was somewhat cold, “if he can’t do it, he shouldn’t make promises lightly.”
“But if it really comes to that point, I bet sir will definitely respect your

choice. You are now pushing him too much.”
Celeste frowned, “so, it’s is my fault?”
Cade wisely chose to shut his mouth. He knew what Celeste meant.
All along, the biggest problem in their relationship lay in Kendric’s intense,
almost obsessive possessiveness toward Celeste. In the past two years, he had
shown a considerable change. He had learned to control himself and behaved
more like a normal person.
Kendric knew Celeste’s bottom line, so he chose not to excessively interfere
with. Celeste could tell he had changed.
But when it came to letting her leave, would he compromise?
Celeste stood in the yard and waited until her mind was completely clear
from the cold wind. Then she went upstairs.
Kendric had locked himself in the study.
Celeste told herself not to be mad at him, but the tightly closed door of the
study still brought her an inexplicable sense of irritation.
The maid Jenny came to ask if she had dinner.
“I’m not hungry. Make some food for Kendric.” With that, she ignored everything and went back to the bedroom to remove her makeup and freshen
- up.
Over an hour later, Jenny came to knock on the bedroom door. “Miss Alinsky, dinner is ready.”
“Take some to the study.”
Jenny hesitated, “but sir refused to open the door.”
She sighed. He was over thirty years old! How could he still act like a child?
She had no way but brought the dinner to the study herself. The study door
wasn’t locked. Perhaps he was waiting for her.
Anyway, Celeste knocked twice on the study door. She heard no response.
She pushed the door open directly.
Kendric was having his back to her, sitting at the table. When he heard the
sound, he didn’t turn around.
“Still mad at me?” She approached.
His stiff body moved slightly, “no.”
A chuckle escaped Celeste’s throat. She reached out and poked his left
cheek, then poked his right cheek.
“You know what you look like now? An angry puffer fish!”
Kendric stared quietly out the window. Then he took a deep breath like he had made a significant decision.
“If you decide to leave,” he looked up to gaze at her, “I will respect your choice, as long as… you give me a deadline to wait for. I will wait.”
He was trying his best to suppress down his emotion.
Celeste was frozen in place. She scrutinized Kendric from head to toe.
Kendric continued, “you’re right. I shouldn’t casually make promises to you unless I have confidence to fulfill them. Now I’m sure I can do it, so I promise you, no matter what you want to do in the future, I won’t restrict you–even if
you want to go abroad, to leave…”
“Can you believe me now?”
It was precisely because Celeste knew too well what kind of person Kendric
was deep down that she couldn’t believe him.
“It never minds if you don’t believe me now. Time will prove everything.
After all, we still have a very long future ahead, don’t we?”
Celeste couldn’t deny that his words successfully tugged at her
heartstrings.
“You swear you said it in good faith?”
Kendric eagerly nodded. He held her hand and placing it on his chest, making a pledge.
“I promise, I won’t interfere with any of your decision in the future, no matter what happens.”
He had that nervous anticipation on face. The longer her silence was, the more jitters he got. Until he saw her head nod slightly, the weigh on his chest finally lifted.
“Let’s have dinner first,” she beamed and brought the loaded tray over. “The food has turned a bit cold.”

After dinner, Kendric threw himself into work in the study, while Celeste went to the bedroom to call Sienna. Although the heating was on, she still wore a thick pair of woolen socks.
The phone rang twice and was quickly answered.
“Hello” A deep male voice came through the phone. Celeste paused for a
second before realizing it was Axel.
“Hi, Axel, this is Celeste. Where’s Sienna?”
“She’s taking a bath.”
“Well…” Celeste thought about hanging up and calling later.
“Wait a moment, I’ll give the phone to her.”
Before Celeste could react, she heard Sienna’s piercing screams.
“Aaaaaah–GET THE FUCK OUT!”
Celeste could sense the panic in Sienna’s voice.
“Don’t come over! Stay where you are!”
Axel felt like his eardrum was nearly penetrated by her high decibel. He
frowned and approached the bathtub.
“Celeste’s call.”
The screams came to an abrupt halt. After that, Celeste heard the sound of a
closing door, and she breathed a sigh of relief in her heart.
“Cely,” there came Sienna’s depressed voice.
