Chapter 13
Celeste spent the whole day at the studio, busy with work.
In the blink of an eye, it was evening, and she didn’t return to Kendric’s
villa but went straight back to her own small apartment.
Upon arriving home, she tidied up the things she had brought from
Kendric’s home, especially her art supplies.
The sky grew darker.
With her empty stomach growling, she opened her phone and ordered some
takeout.

When Kendric returned home in the evening, he only saw an empty
bedroom. Celeste didn’t come back.
He seemed quite uncomfortable, as he had been accustomed to receiving
her embrace and kisses as soon as he arrived home. But now all of that was
gone.
Kendric was somewhat agitated. He loosened his tie and furrowed his
brow. He was at his wit’s end with Celeste’s recent behavior.
Since last night, when he learned that Celeste had gone to a bar, he had
been restraining his anger. He disliked her showing up in occasions like a
nightclub, especially when it had eventually escalated to a visit to the police
station.
However, this displeasure had mostly disappeared after Celeste obediently
returned home with him. But today, she went to her rented apartment again!

That lingering displeasure had reignited like adding fuel to the fire.
Kendric put on his coat and went out alone.
It was not yet ten o’clock when the doorbell rang.
Celeste was squatting in the bathroom, washing her paint palette. She
hurriedly washed her hands, ran barefoot out of the bathroom. The touch of the
cold floor sent shivers through her body.
She thought it was her takeout.
When she opened the door, she was surprised to see Kendric standing
outside.
Forrest Gump said life was like a box of chocolates, never know what you’re
gonna get. But at this moment Celeste felt like life wasn’t giving her a chocolate
but a grenade.
Who the hell could tell her why this man is standing outside her home?!
Her heart involuntarily sank. She was paralyzed by fear.
“Why are you here?”
Kendric was seething with anger on his way here, but when he saw
Celeste’s reaction, let’s just say he started feeling happy.
His smile showed he was in a good mood.
They silently stared at each other.
Kendric was waiting for Celeste to come over and give him a hug, just like
they used to do. But to his surprise, she didn’t move a step.

In this awkward standoff, he reluctantly took a step forward to close the
gap between them.

However, Celeste unconsciously took back.
Kendric froze in his tracks as he noticed her subtle retreat. He looked at her
with puzzlement. A hint of displeasure flickered in his eyes- it’s the first time
Celeste rejected him.
Now things got a bit awkward. Celeste broke the ice, “come in.”
As Kendric stepped in, his tall and imposing figure made the apartment
seem even crowded.
His gaze lingered on Celeste for a second.
“Come here,” he said.
Celeste followed him, still in a daze.
She had imagined how Kendric would react after knowing she had moved
out. She thought most like he would have no reaction. She knew her place in his
heart quite well, someone of no account.
Among all her assumptions, the current situation was the only one that
hadn’t crossed her mind he came to find her in person.
Kendric glanced over her apartment.
Just a quick glance would be enough to capture the full view of this tiny
apartment, the living room, kitchen, and the bedroom.
Frankly speaking, it’s even smaller than the storage room in his villa.
Kendric scrunched up his face in disapproval. He sat on the couch, eyeing

her bare feet, “where are your shoes?”
Celeste used her toes to fish around and managed to find one of her shoes, but the other one had vanished. It was probably being kicked to under the
couch.
Her feet were freezing, but she couldn’t just bend over and rummage under
the couch right now.
Kendric just watched her with a raised eyebrow.
But comparing to get frostbite, Celeste would rather temporarily drop the graceful image. She grovelled on her knees to search for her shoe, but she failed
to reach it.
She kept attempting for over a minute, and then a voice came from above,
“so, why’d you move out?”
Damn–she had to endure his questioning in this weird posture.
Indeed, her current living condition coul
hold a candle to her time at
Melville family. Sometimes, she had to rustle up her own dinner even after
coming home late from work.
She used to love padding around barefoot, but ever since she moved into
the tiny apartment, she had to break that habit. The reason was simple because
this apartment’s floor was not fully carpeted by fluffy wool carpets, like
Melville’s villa.
And there was no underfloor heating here, and the nights were chilly. She’d
get so cold that, sometimes, she couldn’t even bring herself to take off her coat,
let alone walk around barefoot.

Though Kendric hadn’t pointed it out directly, the fact remained that she
was suffering some hardships after moving out.

Celeste gave up fumbling for her shoe and sat on the floor in silence.
Kendric probably sensed that Celeste was upset about something, but he
curtly attributed her upsets to him not meeting her needs.
Men get grumpy when their desires go unfulfilled.
Women’s unhappiness comes from various reasons, but Kendric didn’t quite
get it. Celeste, now had lost interest in explaining it to him.
She sat on the floor beside the couch, arms crossed. Her hair flew over her
slender shoulders and cascaded down to her chest. The lamp cast a warm glow
on her cheeks.
Kendric scooped her up from the floor and put her on the couch. He
casually took off his suit jacket, tossing it onto her head.
Celeste pushed aside the suit that covered her face. Then she saw Kendric kneeling on one knee, searching for her shoe under the couch.
The sleeves of his white was grazing the couch’s edge. A heavy layer of dust
stuck on them.
He quickly located her shoe, washed his hands in the bathroom and
returned to the living room.
“When are you going back?” he asked.
