Chapter 129
Accompanied by Celeste’s sharp scream, she felt her whole world spinning. The moment before she rolled down the steps, she saw Kendric reaching out his
hand towards her, and the extremely terrified expression on his face.
That’s the expression you would have when you truly afraid of losing
someone. Even many years later. Celeste believed that it was in that moment
that she truly confirmed that Kendric genuinely loved her.
Not out of possessiveness, nor out of habit, but simply because he loved her.
He loved her more than his own life
The imagined intense pain did not come as Celeste expected. Instead, she
fell into an embrace, a very familiar embrace.
Kendric rolled down the steps with her! As the thought crossed her mind.
Celeste was clutched by fear.
She couldn’t imagine that this man would protect her like this. Kendric protected the back of her head with one hand, while the other was on her back. He entirely enclosed her in his arms as they tumbled down the steps together.
After rolling down a dozen or so stairs, they finally came to a stop on a flat land. People on the platform rushed over in exclaims.
- up.
Celeste fell on top of Kendric, and after being dazed for two seconds, she sat
Kendric’s hand still rested on her waist, and as Celeste got up from him, he even gave her a reassuring pat.
“Kendric, you okay? Celeste squatted beside him to check on his situation.
There’s a deep gash on his forehead. Bright red blood flowed down from his forehead through his temple and finally dripping on the stone steps.
Kendric could hear her voice. He tried to shake his head, but he had
difficulty even moving. Celeste was overwhelmed by panic. The medical
personnel quickly approached.
They led Celeste aside to treat the abrasions on her arm. She saw the doctor
gesturing in front of Kendric’s eyes, but Kendric still had no way to move.
This wasn’t the first time Kendric got injured to protect Celeste.
The year Celeste graduated from college, she planned to go on a graduation.
trip with her friends. But Kendric disagreed, and then her graduation trip
ended up being a trip between them two.
They chose a town with spacious grassland because Celeste had never seen the grassland. Celeste was so excited that she could fall sleep that night. Early the next morning, she dragged Kendric out to ride horses.
Kendric learned equestrian skills since childhood, so he took Celeste for a ride on a horse on the grasslands.
But Celeste was eager to try it herself. She took the opportunity when Kendric wasn’t paying attention and mounted the horse alone.
But the horse had a fierce temper, and once she got on, Celeste found herself had no way to get off.
The neighing of the horse startled Kendric out of the lodge, only to see Celeste on the horse, panic–stricken.
She shouted for help, and without hesitation, Kendric rushed over.
The horse was wild and strong, and soon Celeste was thrown off.
That time, Kendric broke his arm when trying to catch her.
This time, he got a concussion when trying to protect her.
It seemed like they had always been like this. Every time when Celeste finally made up her mind to completely break ties with this man, something
unexpected would happen to change her mind.
She had even planned that once this project was finished, she would take
her father to live in France. If Myles adapted well to life there, they would settle
there. If he didn’t, they would find another domestic city to settle down.
But now…
“The patient has woke up.”
Celeste sat in the corridor outside the ward. She was snapped back to
reality by the abrupt sound.
“You wanna go in and have a look at him?”
Celeste was still in a trance. She slowly stood up and pushed open the ward door. Kendric seemed unable to move his arms. Upon hearing the sound of door opening, he slightly turned his head, and frowned in discomfort.
“Try not to let him move his head, or it may bring sense of nausea.”
Celeste nodded. After the nurse left, only them two were left in the ward.
Kendric struggled to turn his face, “did you get injured?”
Celeste shook her head and walked over, “I’m fine.”
He sighed with relief, and moved his fingers slightly, “d–don’t be afraid.”

Celeste’s eyes moistened.
When they two rolled down the steps, Ophelia was immediately caught
under control by Cade. She watched them rolling down the steps, crying while
laughing like a madwoman.
She shouted hoarsely, “Celeste, rot in hell!”
Ophelia blamed all her misfortune on Celeste. Her previous jealousy had
long shifted to a deep–seated hatred..
And now all her hatred feelings found an outlet.
Every time Celeste recalled Ophelia’s screams and curses, she felt a chill in
her heart.
“No one can hurt you.” Kendric kept comforting her, “don’t be afraid.”
Kendrie–felt constant waves of nausea surging up. The doctor advised him to close his eyes and have more rest. He shouldn’t waste any energy.
Celeste sat beside him quietly, which was a rare scene for them.
After confirming that Kendric had fallen into sound sleep, Celeste went out to find Cade.
Cade had just finished dealing with Ophelia. When he saw Celeste, the anger and fierce in his gaze gradually faded.
“Miss Alinsky.”
Celeste stopped him outside the ward, “tell me about what happened to Bates family over the past two years.”
She couldn’t figure out where Ophelia’s hatred toward her came from, to

the point that she want to kill her.
Cade answered, “two years ago, when Mr. Caleb Melville was seriously ill,
Caden Bates incited a group of people to come over, trying to stir up trouble.”
“Yeah, I remember it, but wasn’t it resolved already?”
Cade shook his head, “no, later, Caden Bated didn’t restrain himself at all,
but repeatedly cross sir’s bottom line. In the end–he even brought up sir’s
origin.”
Celeste was confused, “origin?”
“You may not know… Caden Bates, and Ms. Quinn, and sir’s father, they were college friends. Ms. Quinn had once been Caden Bates‘ girlfriend.”
“Oh my!”
