Chapter 120
She was somewhat afraid that the project would really be halted and asked
with concern, “so, what’s your next plan? You want to stop the project?”
“Adrian was confident that I wouldn’t shut down the project, so-”
Celeste nervously awaited his next words.
“As you wish, I won’t.”
Not a surprising answer for Celeste.
She had sensed some changed in Kendric, for example, his ambition wasn’t as strong as it used to be. Like today, he could have considered shutting down
the project for the sake of profit..
But did he lack that money? He didn’t. He lacked Celeste change of heart
towards him.
Celeste thought she should stop him, stop him from making this decision
merely for the sake of her.
But when she thought about her team members depending on this project
for their livelihoods, and her own desire to make this game succeed, she
couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
Kendric ordered some more dishes for her, and comforted her.
“Don’t overthink it. Don’t feel burdened. It’s my choice to do this. It has
nothing to do with you.”
No, it has a lot to do with her.
Just like now, Celeste felt her heart uncontrollably deviated from its path,

heading towards a place both unfamiliar and familiar.
It’s unfamiliar because this man had changed a lot.
It’s familiar because this sensation of accelerated heartbeat was same as
that when she deeply loved Kendric.
After the lunch, Celeste returned to the office. After careful consideration,
she convened a department meeting in the afternoon.
There had been rumors that this game project might be cut, but since this
projected had been carrying out for three years, they all thought it couldn’t
come to an end so easily.
But the current situation was such that the game project was not profitable
and was not thought to succeed by the majority.
Having recently joined the company as the Art Director, Celeste faced
hostility from many within the department, especially from those who were
part of the previous leadership team.
She didn’t wanna waste time on them. In the meeting, she began by giving
everyone a brief explanation of the current situation.
As her words fell, it caused a great panic among the crowd. Some believed she was spreading false information, while others thought she was
fearmongering.
Celeste explained, “in two days, there will be layoffs in the art design and illustration teams. I have counted. We have sixty people in total. According to the company’s resolutions, we need to cut twenty positions.”

The expressions of everyone grew more serious.
“You sure about the news? Then who will be on the layoffs list?”
Celeste closed the file in her hand, “before next Monday, send me your
usual sketches and resumes to my email. Meeting’s over.”
The department was currently lack of cohesion. They were unable to handle
even the most basic tasks.
Celeste was in no hurry. As a newcomer, many did not respect her. She
needed to have a long–term plan.
The first thing she had to do now was to change the overall work
atmosphere of the entire department.
On a weekend morning, before the sun rose from horizon, Celeste drove her
new car to an emporium for pet and garden supply.
Her apartment had a spacious 5–square–meter open balcony. Celeste
initially thought of turning it into a small glasshouse but later found it too
troublesome.
The apartment had been vacant for two years, and now it lacked vitality. So, she decided to decorate the balcony with some plants.
Influenced by her father, Celeste loved plants. Three years ago, when she moved out of Melville family, she left a few orchids there. She wondered if they were still alive.
The emporium was a bit far away from her apartment. She got on the
expressway.
olling through the stores. She took a bite of her ice cream and answered the
one.
“Where are you?”
She mumbled, “the emporium.”
She passed a shop selling parrots, halted and teased a parrot, “to get some
otted plants for decoration.”
“Send me the address. I’m coming now.
She glanced around. There were quite a few people. “I don’t think it’s a good
dea.”
“Stay where you are,” he hung up.
Celeste put her phone in her pocket and kept hanging around. By the time
Kendric arrived, she had loaded several pots of plants into her car. In her hand,
she held a plastic box with a small tortoise inside.
Kendric didn’t choose a suit today. Instead, he had on a khaki–colored
windbreaker.
Celeste’s eyes lit up. He rarely wore light–colored clothes.
All along his closet was filled with black suits of the same style.
In the past, Kendric had never put much effort into his attire. With his perfect proportions, he looked good in anything. Beside, he favored darker–colored clothing, which, in his eyes, would made him look more steady.
He walked towards her. For a split second, Celeste felt the man stood in

front of her was the eighteen–year–old Kendric.
“Why are you dressed like this?”
Kendric lowered her head to have a look at his coat, “what’s wrong? It
doesn’t look good on me?”
“No, you look good. But that’s a rare choice for you, isn’t it?”
She squinted with her slightly nearsighted eyes, scrutinizing him from top
to bottom. “You look much younger on it.”
Kendric smirked, and his eyes shone with vitality. “I’m not that old.”
Celeste regretted using the world “old” on him that day. In fact, compared to
the past, he now exuded more charm at this age.
“You’re not old.”
Kendric smiled.
On the way back, she rode in Kendric’s car.
Cade drove her car back to her apartment, And he would arrange someone to decorate her balcony.
Celeste sat in the passenger seat, feeding the tortoise.
“What breed is your turtle?”
Celeste corrected him, “he has name. I call him Tor.”
