Chapter 118
“You are my girlfriend and I’m your boyfriend.”
Celeste nudged him away. “Dream on! Get out of my car.”
In broad daylight, amidst the hustle and bustle of traffic and passers–by,
Kendric was kicked out of the car. He stood alone on the busy street. Not too far
away, a black Maybach followed closely. It came to a slow stop, and then
Kendric’s figure disappeared from the street.
Celeste parked the car in the underground garage of the company building and took the elevator to the office.
There was an important meeting on the schedule today.
Before joining this project, Celeste had vaguely heard about some news with it. For example, when the game was initially approved, the budget was set at 200 million, and according to the estimates at that time, it was expected to break even in less than two years.
However, three years had passed since the inception of this game, and it hadn’t gone as smoothly as originally predicted.
And here the question came. From the current perspective, it wasn’t a profitable investment. Why would Kendric choose to invest in it?
She didn’t think Kendric was someone easily swayed by personal feelings. Deep down, he was a businessman who would never invest at a loss.
In the project department of Cursed Signs, the meeting room on the eighteenth floor was in chaos.
Even from a distance, the sounds of roaring arguments could be heard

vaguely.
“I disagree! This project is on the brink of making no money, and you want.
we shareholders to continue investing?”
“Adrian, don’t think we don’t know what you’re up to. You want to milk us
for money to satisfy your own desires.”
Celeste stood outside the door, halting her steps.
She leaned slightly and peeked inside, and happened to see Adrian sitting
on the sofa. He was wearing a black shirt. He had an upset look with his hand
supporting his forehead.
There followed a short silence, and it took a while before someone spoke,
“isn’t it a bit too much to say that?”
Celeste saw Adrian stand up. She didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but to break into the room at this moment was clearly inappropriate.
“When I established this project, all of you…” Adrian looked at the people around the conference table and sneered, “you all begged to invest in this
project.”
He tapped his finger on the dark wooden table, “every investment has risks. The project is currently facing a downturn, and then you all rush to hold me accountable. You’re too impatient.”
The people in the conference room looked at each other and fell silent.
Adrian leaned back on the sofa again. Now his voice carried a hint of laziness, “there will be a new investor in today’s meeting. You can rest assured.”
They were still skeptical, “who would still invest in this stagnated project?”
Celeste pondered their words. Then she quietly took a few steps back, and
returned to her office.
Today was her first day on the job. Their department shared an office with the design department. Before she arrived, the entire department was managed
by people from the original design department.
Now, Celeste was parachuted in and became the Art Director in charge of
both departments.
As she entered, the office was buzzing with gossips, and people gathered in
groups talking. Celeste glanced around. She let out a cough on purpose, and
everyone dispersed immediately.
After a greeting, she returned to her office and made a call to Kendric.
She leaned on her chair, sipping coffee as she observed others through the
glass wall. The office atmosphere here was too lazy. She suppressed the
displeasure in her eyes.
Soon the phone got through, and there came Kendric’s voice. “Hmm?”
Celeste quickly conveyed the conversation she overheard in the meeting room to him, “you sure you still want to invest in this project?”
“Yes, I’m on my way to meet with Adrian. Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing”
Celeste hung up the phone. She guessed that Kendric probably had his own plans, so she didn’t need to overly concern.
She put on a more comfortable pair of shoes and went to the staff lounge to

pour some coffee.
Before entering the lounge, Celeste was greeted by a series of giggles from
inside. She glanced at the time. There was still an hour and a half until the
break.
So the office wasn’t enough for chatting, and they all gathered here.
“Yeah, it’s that Celeste.”
“I didn’t expect it to be her. Back then, her ‘love story‘ with Mr. Melville
caused quite a stir.”
“What? You guys don’t know? Oh my, that’s a big news three years ago!”
“Don’t be fooled by her current image. When she was pestering with Mr. Melville, she used all scheming. She shamelessly moved into Melville family for eight years, a full eight years!”
“But in the end, she was still kicked out.”
“And then she forced Mr. Melville to engage with her, only to be publicly rejected at engagement ceremony. She left the country after that because she’s got a notorious name. They said she went abroad for further studies, but who knows what she’s really up to.”
Celeste sneered. She knew it! The habitual tactics of these gossipers was that they always turn the facts upside down!
All along, she just wanted to focus on doing her own job and didn’t want to pay attention to the gossip from the outside world.
But now that she was being defamed, if she didn’t even have the courage to stand up to stop, that would be foolish.

She gently swayed the coffee cup and appeared at the entrance of the
lounge.
