Chapter 102
When Kendric woke up again, he was already lying on the sickbed. He opened his eyes, gazing at the white ceiling for a moment, and then
instinctively attempted to sit up.
Celeste heard the sound. She turned around and promptly reached out to press him down. “Don’t move. You can’t get off the bed.”
Kendric was evidently surprised that she was still here. “Celeste… you
didn’t leave?”
After his surgery, the doctor told Celeste that Kendric had likely been enduring severe stomach pain for days, and eventually passing out due to the
agony.
Hearing this, Celeste carried a hint of annoyance in her tone. “Leave?
Where should I go? You’ve just had surgery, and Grandpa is in critical
condition…”
She sighed and added, “where else can I go?”
Kendric sensed the displeasure in her voice but remained clueless about the
reason behind her anger, so he chose to stay quiet. However, his gaze remained
fixed on her.
She poured some water and dampened a small cotton ball, saying, “doctor
said you can’t eat or drink for now. Use it to moisten your lips.”
“You can ask Cade to come in and take care of me,” he suggested.
Celeste could tell he was somewhat afraid of making her angry. She nodded. her head but didn’t go find Cade.

lips.
She used tweezers to pick up the damp cotton ball and approached him.
Kendric found himself unexpectedly tense as Celeste moved closer.
Celeste handed him the cotton ball, “use it to moisten your lips.”
Half dazed and half delighted, he accepted the cotton ball and wiped his
“No, don’t be so rude. It should be a gentle dabbing motion.”
Kendric kept his gaze fixed on her, his heart racing.
Celeste took another cotton ball and gently dabbed at his lips, “why are
staring at me?”
“Well, since just you and me in the ward, who else can I stare at?”
It sounded reasonable, but Celeste retorted, “I don’t care who you look at,
but don’t keep your eyes on me.”
Kendric reluctantly closed his eyes.
His lips were slightly dry and cracked. Celeste gently put the damp cotton
ball on it. When she finished and noticed his eyes were still closed, she quietly
observed him.
She couldn’t help but reach out and touch his eyes. His eyelashes brushed her palm. She leaned closer, wanting to examine them more closely. He snapped open his eyes and gazed intently at her.
Their eyes met.
Kendric was deeply ensnared in Celeste’s tenderness. His throat tightened, “wh–what’s wrong? Why are you staring at me like that?”

ear.
“You have got some gray hair,” she said. She brushed her fingers past his
Kendric, “really?”
He actually didn’t pay too much attention and thought it was quite normal.
Yet Celeste seemed unable to accept it, “you’re not even thirty.”
Kendric seemed to be amused by her words. Some chuckles escaped his
throat. “You’re still young and beautiful. That’s enough.”
She still had that soft hair, clear and moist eyes. Everything was as it had
been when they first met.
A deep sense of sadness rose from her heart. “I would like we grow old
together.”
She stood up from the chair by the sickbed. After a brief moment of
confusion, Kendric suddenly understood the deeper meaning of her words. His.
eyes lit up with joy.
“Celeste, do you mean…
Celeste said, “stay on the bed. I’m going to check on grandpa. I’ll be back in a little while.”
He grinned.
Caleb had not woken up yet, and there was caregiver watching over him 24/7 outside the intensive care unit.
Cade had finished his work arrangements and, when he looked up, he saw

her approaching. He quickly greeted her, “Miss Alinsky.”
That Kendric suddenly fell into a coma yesterday panicked them all. As this news spread, inquiries and calls began pouring in. Some were to concern his
condition, yet some were up to no good.
Also, the news of Caleb’s grave illness couldn’t be kept under wraps. If he pass away, it would undoubtedly create significant shockwaves in Melville
family.
Fortunately, in recent years, Kendric had taken full control of the whole
clan. Any upheaval couldn’t erode his standing as the heir. Yet, during times like
these, there was always someone maliciously stirring the pot.
Celeste noticed that Cade appeared hesitant to speak, “something bad
happened?”
“Your guess’s right,” his expression turned serious.
Celeste urged him to continue, “tell me.”
“Someone has intentionally spread the rumor that Mr. Caleb Melville had passed away.”
“When did this start?”
“It began this morning, and numerous people have called here to pry into more information.”
Celeste clenched her teeth, “fucking son of bitch!”
These years, under Caleb’s authority, no one dared to incite any upheaval, but they had long nursed a grievance because Caleb directly had appointed Kendric, the youngest one among all candidates, as the heir.

Thus, now hearing Caleb’s health was deteriorating, those who had
suppressed their grievances for years, naturally sought to disrupt the status.
quo.
Cade continued, “I’m still investigating the source of the rumor.”
Celeste disliked some relatives and members in this clan, who disdained
her to the core due to her rural background. It’s just they never displayed it
openly considering Caleb’s preference for Celeste. And Celeste avoided having a
lot of contact with them.
“And there’s one more thing…” Cade added, “Mr. Melville’s surgery,
someone leaked it. Those snobs who heard he was seriously ill, are ready to
come over.”
“Come over? What do you mean? I instructed you to keep the news sealed
on the day of his surgery. Who leaked it?”
“I’m sure it was not our people, but someone in this hospital,” Cade
pondered, “it’s hard to say. There are numerous people coming and going in the
hospital everyday. I’ll thoroughly investigate the hospital staff.”
Celeste shook her head, “no, we have more important things to do. Now
that the news was already leaked, we have no way to shut everyone outside the ward. As long as they see Kendric is in good health, the rumors will fall apart on their own,”
Cade listened attentively.
She continued, “as for grandpa’s safety, you have to pay more attention. Anyone who comes to visit, check on their identity. If you find anyone with ill Intention, you know what to do.”

“Also, every therapeutic regimen must be prescribed by our trusted doctors. The list of doctors and nurses entering the grandpa’s ward must be fixed, don’t
let any strangers sneak in.”
“What about Mr. Melville…” he had limited energy. He couldn’t keep an eye
on Kendric and Caleb at the same time.
“I’ll take care of him,” Celeste answ
