Chapter 100
Celeste drove to the hotel to pick up her father, who had arrived by train in
the morning.
Myles was waiting for her in the hotel’s lobby. He was anxiously scanning
the bustling crowd entering and exiting.
Upon seeing Celeste, his face broke into smile. “Cely!”
Celeste dashed to him and hugged him, “dad!”
Celeste drove him back to the new house she had purchased. She
announced proudly, “dad, I finally have my own house.”
Myles was delighted. He remembered the past days when he and his
daughter lived in Melville family. They had to endure humiliations from
Madelyn, who had their dinner plates thrown away.
Myles explored every nook and cranny of the house inside and out.
The next morning, even before dawn, Myles began tidying up the house.
Afterward, he went to the supermarket and bought a bunch of decorations.
Celeste rushed to the downstairs garage to paint her garage door. However,
she discovered someone standing outside. It was Cade.
“Cade? What are you doing here?”
Only a few of her close friends knew the address of her new home, and definitely not including anyone affiliated with Kendric.
Cade rubbed his nose, “I called your school and found out you’re on
vacation. So, I dropped by to see if you’d returned.”

“Why did you come to me?” she asked.
Cade’s expression turned grave. is in critical condition.”
“Mr. Calok Mahall
Celeste found it difficult to believe. “Grandpa is critically ill? Why would he
be? When I left, he was perfectly fine.”
“You’ve been abroad for over half a year…”
Celeste felt hard to accept the truth. “What about Kendric? Why didn’t he
call me?”
“Mr. Melville doesn’t know me coming for you.”
“Why?”
“Because… because he’s currently very-”
“Very what?”
Cade pondered for quite a while and finally found an appropriate word.
“Fragile.”

Outside, heavy snowfall painted everything white.
Celeste stared vacantly out of the window, not even noticing her father’s
steps.
Myles gave a gentle pat on her shoulder. She snapped back to reality.
“What’s on your mind?”
Celeste shook her head. “Nothing, dad.”
Just a short while ago, Cade persuaded her to visit Caleb.

“Is there anything upsets you? Cely, tell me.”
Celeste didn’t intend to keep this from her father. “Yeah, Kendric’s
grandfather is in critical condition.”
Myles was equally surprised. “When did this happen?”
“A couple of days ago. Since receiving the critical illness notification… he’s
been transferred to the intensive care unit.”
Myles fell silent for a moment, “you should pay him a visit. He’s been kind
to you.”
Celeste nodded. “I know, dad. I plan to see him tomorrow morning.”
In the evening, Sienna called, inviting Celeste and her father to have dinner
at their house. Celeste, however, didn’t want to make things too awkward, so
she politely declined.
“Cely, you don’t like Eulalie?” Sienna ventured.
“Of course not. It’s just that I don’t want to cause them any trouble because
of those stupid rumors. Get it?”
Sienna breathed a sigh of relief and ended the call.
In the evening, Myles cooked the dinner. All the dishes were Celeste’s favorite.
She lay on the sofa, patting her full stomach, “I’m so happy!”
Myles was peeling an apple for her.
Celeste took a bite and then peeled one to her father as well.
“I have the best,” Myles mumbled to himself.
“Huh? Dad, what did you say?”
“I said, I have the best daughter.”
“I have the best dad in the world, too.”
After a while, Celeste opened the door to take out the trash. However, when
he stepped outside and approached the yard, she noticed someone standing
utside.
She got closer, and found it was none other than Cade.
“Why haven’t you left yet?” Celeste was genuinely surprised.
Cade took a deep drag from his cigarette, and then stubbed it out.
“To wait for you.”
Celeste frowned, “I remember I told you I’d be coming tomorrow?”
Cade raised his wrist, pointing to his watch. “It’s less than two hours until
tomorrow, and I want to be on time to pick you up.”
Celeste was speechless.
“You really don’t need to do this. Kendric didn’t even know you have done
this for him.”
Her words didn’t change Cade’s mind, “the weather forecast says there will be heavy snow tomorrow morning, and it might be icy on the roads. We better leave earlier.”
Celeste closed her mouth.
Myles also came out, and he was briefly taken aback when he saw Cade.

“Cade? Why are you here?”
Celeste explained the situation to him in a few sentences, “it wasn’t my idea
to have him wait outside,” she added.
Cade had been sent to Myles’s side as a bodyguard before, and apart from
the initial unpleasantness, they got along well with each other.
The only thing Myles didn’t like about Cade was his stubbornness. He only followed Kendric’s order. Everything Kendric said was regarded as gospel.
Myles had initially considered trying to correct Cade’s deep–seated opinion, but he eventually gave up.
“C’mon, come inside. It’s pretty chilly here. Have you had dinner?” Myles
invited him.
Celeste exhaled a sigh. She didn’t really want to invite Cade for dinner.
Cade said honestly. “I haven’t had dinner yet.”
“Then come and have some.”
Myles went to the kitchen to prepare food for Cade, while Celeste went pack her things.
He served a plate full of meat, bread, cheese, and fruits. Cade devoured them all.
After finishing the meal, Cade and Celeste prepared to set off. The drive to the hospital would take more than five hours, and they left a little after ten, aiming to arrive in the early morning.
Cade seemed tireless, his eyes bloodshot but wide open. He said to Celeste,

“you can have a nap in the car. I’ll wake you up when we arrive. I’ve reserved a
hotel room for you, right next to the hospital. You can check in directly when
we arrive.”
Celeste was worried about his fatigue driving, “if you get drowsy, just pull
over the car and take short breaks.”

Cade smiled, “I will. Mr. Caleb Melville will be delighted with your visit, and
They fell into silence again.
