Caroline was reprimanded time and again, so naturally, she saw Emilia as an even bigger eyesore.
“Who do you think you are, Emilia? Are you here at our place just to ride on my brother’s coattails like you once did? Do you really think you’re mor
graceful than anybody else? You-”
Before Caroline could finish blabbering, she glimpsed Nathan’s warning gaze. Losing all courage to continue the second half of her speech, she stopped making a sound altogether right on that note.
“Don’t take her words to heart,” said Nathan as he wheeled around and eyed Emilia’s coffee cup.
Emilia could not put a finger on what the man had just told her, wondering whether he had meant it for someone else.
Noah’s face darkened as he said apologetically, “Lia, Caroline’s always impulsive. Don’t get angry. We were halfway done talking just a minute ago. What was the relationship between Norman and you again?” One could not blame Noah for caring that much about the subject.. Miller Group and Tordena Group had plans to strike a collaboration with one another. If they failed to do so in the end, things would be fairly likely to lead them toward being competitors. As for the stakes involved, they were not something even Noah could turn a blind eye to.
Emilia pursed her lips and revealed, “He’s my cousin!”
Emilia owned up to Norman’s identity frankly, which stunned everyone
present.
“How’s that possible? Y–You really are the daughter of the Saunders family?”
Caroliné took a deep breath and scrutinized Emilia from head to toe.
“I think what happened today should be enough evidence of who I am.”
Emilia glanced at Caroline placidly, her tone was particularly flat. She even had the time to brew a pot of hot coffee for Noah skillfully.
After being startled for a fleeting moment, Noah grabbed a cup of coffee and breathed a sigh of relief. “No wonder the coffee you make is so much to my liking.”

In that case, some of Emilia’s spoken words and deeds, as well as her dignified and elegant posture, had not been groundless.
Nathan glanced at Emilia deeply at that.
He had always thought that Emilia was a scheming woman who deliberately learned those skills in order to get close to the Miller family. Knowing that it was something she had learned since childhood, Nathan felt rather ashamed of his own malicious guesses in the past.
“How’s that even possible? I’ve personally met your parents before!” Fiona was not convinced at all. She raised her voice and added, “I even sent someone myself to pick you up at the slum! How could you really be the daughter of the Saunders family?”
Although Emilia had mentioned that she was the daughter of the
Saunders family at the auction, Fiona still stubbornly chose to think that Emilia was nothing but an imposter.
If anything, she was actually waiting to watch the drama once Emilia’s background was exposed.
Sadly, even Norman stood up for Emilia. “Don’t tell me she’s truly the daughter of the Saunders family?” was Fiona’s thought.
Hearing Fiona’s interrogation, Emilia fell silent for a long time.
After a while, she narrowed her eyes and cooed, “Nothing’s impossible. A major car crash happened to the Saunders family ten years ago, which led to my short–term amnesia. My adoptive parents were the ones taking care of me until I regained my memory. So, when I got married, they were specially invited to give me their blessings.”
Emilia kept her head hung low the entire while, holding the coffee cup

In the meantime, Nathan pinned his gaze on the woman, listening to her as she brought the truth of what happened to light. Right when he caught sight of Emilia’s dejected, lonely eyes, a trace of unusual emotion flitted across his heart.
An unknown feeling thus began to spread all over his body.
Fiona, in turn, was relentless as she continued, “If so, when you got

married, why didn’t you invite the people of the Saunders family or the Gibson family to attend, for that matter? What’s your motive to marry into the Miller family without telling us who you are?”
Given the authority of the Saunders family in Radford, even if Emilia’s parents were no longer in power, any man would covet, not to mention go crazy over being Emilia’s husband.
Nathan swept an icy gaze at his mother. “It’s fine, Mother. Emilia and I have divorced. Why still dig up all this?”
“How can I not? What if she-
“Because I didn’t want anyone to know that I was married!” Emilia interrupted Fiona. The former slowly looked up at Nathan as she enunciated those words.
“Because I didn’t want people to know that the man I married didn’t even give me a wedding. I didn’t want my parents to turn in their graves when they got to know that. I didn’t want my loved ones in the Saunders family. to know how lightly Nathan took me.”
Emilia’s confessions only served to elicit a frown on Nathan.
“You yourself agreed not to hold a wedding.”
Nathan sounded a little dull.
“Yeah.” Emilia smiled reluctantly in return. “Because no one in my family. gave me the nod to tie the knot with you. In order to marry you, I left my family which I had cherished for years, quarreled with my loved ones, and stubbornly insisted on my foolish wish to marry you. I cared about you with all my heart, hoping that you’d one day fall for me…”
As Emilia went on and on, she herself thought that she had been childish and ridiculous.
Her smile turned bitter, but her eyes were clear and shining with confidence. “I tried my best to prove to everyone that I didn’t make a wrong choice to marry you. But in the end, I was wrong in every way.” Looking at Emilia talking like that, Nathan began to think carefully for the very first time. He started to wonder if Emilia had really fancied him. from the bottom of her heart back then.
He reckoned that if that had been the case, Emilia could not have simply watched him walk down the aisle with another woman..
