Anyone could tell that Fiona was deliberately challenging Simon, or rather, Emilia herself.
“What? 16 million dollars?” they exclaimed inwardly.
“That’s enough. We’re done offering more.”
Emilia frowned and stopped Simon.
Simon, though, smiled gently. “Emilia, I want to buy it for you.”
After saying that, he looked at the haughty Fiona opposite the private room. Gone was his gentlemanly manner as a sneer escaped him. “Mrs. Miller, this jadeite is bright green in color. Whoever’s with a wicked heart will only sully this very gem. I sure hope you can give it up.”
Simon raised the number tag once again.
Failing to stop the man, Emilia had no choice but to leave him be.
“18 million dollars! This young man over there has called out 18 million dollars!” The auctioneer’s deafening voice reverberated across the space. If the exhibited item were sold at a bid of 18 million dollars, the auctioneer himself would rack enough commission to last him an expenditure of two years. Had that astronomical sum been meant for ordinary folks, it would have granted them all the money they needed for a lifetime.
“Is there anyone else going higher than that? This piece of jade necklace is distinguished from every other typical jadeite accessory. It’s been passed down. from the royal family for thousands of years and is worth centuries of value. It’d be a hard–to–come–by, exquisite treasure to even any collection!”
Caroline eyed Simon who was lying ever so leisure. whites were almost broken as she gnashed them hard.

“How’s that wretch deserving any of this?” was her seething thought.
Never could she fathom what right a woman like Emilia possessed to have such a decent man to be by her side.
“Mom, I think that Simon’s going against the Miller family on purpose! That bitch. Emilia must’ve instigated him. She must think the Miller family can’t fork out this puny several tens of millions of dollars!”
Besides the fact that Caroline had grown up under the care of Fiona, what she had. said was exactly what the latter had in mind.
“20 million dollars!”
Fiona lifted her sign once more and raised the auction price to 20 million dollars.
“The Miller family’s indeed rich and powerful! As they all always say, even a hair of anyone from the Miller family would be worth more than our limbs!”

“Mr. Miller can do more than this, you know. Even if he spends three or even ten times as much money on this jadeite, he’ll still be able to afford it.”
“Ten times? Wouldn’t he be taken for a ride like that?”
A parade of bystanders swept up a discussion about how generous Fiona was. Fiona was more than satisfied to have attracted a great deal of attention and become the focus of the auction. Holding her chin up high, she basked in the envy of the crowd.
“There we have it–20 million dollars! Mrs. Miller offered 20 million dollars! Will we be seeing higher bidding than this?”
The auctioneer beamed with joy on the central high platform, his broad grin spreading from ear to ear. Having been an auctioneer in a slew of auctions in the past, he had never been that elated, not even once.
“What 20 million dollars?”
A deep voice rang out as the door to the private room was pushed open. It was Nathan. He happened to catch sight of Fiona sticking her hands on her hips and looking complacent. That elicited an unwitting pucker creasing his forehead. “Nathan!” Fiona wheeled around with a jubilant visage on her face, seeming to have won the bid. “I’m auctioning a piece of jade necklace. It’s going to fall into my hands any
Nathan walked to the edge of the private room, glanced at the exhibition booth, and sported a displeased mien on the spot. “This thing isn’t worth 20 million dollars.”
The second Nathan finished his sentence, Simon raised his own number tag again.

“30 million dollars! Our guest in private room no dollars! I can tell that this guest must’ve got an un determined to call it his own! Since this is premium jewelry, is it a gift for the beautiful lady next to you, if I may ask?”
Although the auctioneer was well aware of every guest’s background, he still had to pretend not to know them so as to flatter them when the opportunity arose. Hearing the auctioneer’s question, Simon hung his head low, held Emilia by the hand, and gazed at her fondly. “Of course, Emilia’s the unique, one–of–a–kind treasure in the world to me. She deserves it all!”
Simon’s behavior completely ticked Fiona off. Even Nathan pursed his lips with a frosty countenance when he glimpsed Emilia’s presence at the scene.
A wave of discomfort assailed Fiona’s heart. She cursed and swore at Emilia over and over deep down before she slammed the table violently, sprang up, and raised the number tag in her hand high.
“32 million dollars!”
Seeing how Fiona added on unreasonably, Emilia pressed Simon’s wavering hand down right away. “This bid has gone multifold over the asking price. It’s not worth it anymore!”
Simon felt the softness of the woman’s palm, his eyes shining with happiness. “It’s okay. Emilia. My gift to you is worth anything, no matter the price.”
Emilia used to think that Simon always knew what he was doing. At that time, though, she pursed her lips and wore a cold expression as she watched the man bidding for an unworthy accessory.
“If you carry on like this, I won’t dare to be friends with you anymore. I don’t want to be caught in such a colossal debt that I can’t repay!”
Panicked, Simon was on the brink of tears. “Emilia…”
“Don’t you dare tell me that I don’t have to repay you!” Emilia stopped the man from saying his piece, and then she grew a tad calmer as she continued, “I don’t even like these kinds of stuff. Why not treat me to a meal instead? I heard that the fish caught by fishermen here in the southern district had a luscious taste. Rather than getting me this necklace which I don’t really fancy, I’d rather you bring me to enjoy some delicious fish!”
Initially, Simon wanted to fight for the bid, but he chose to stop being stubborn after hearing Emilia’s blatant dislike. A smile spread over his face as he obediently agreed.
“Okay, whatever you say, Emilia.”
Only after getting Simon’s approval did Emilia breathe a sigh of relief and direct her attention back to below the stage.
Witnessing that sight, Hayden could not help but cover his eyes.
“How cunning.” Hayden glared at Simon and complained in silence, “How dare he

Simon arched a brow innocently as if he had nothing to do with all that had happened.
“Not only did you not make a fool out of yourself, but you even earned the chance to date Lia for nothing. I always knew you wouldn’t strike a losing deal.” Simon continued to raise his eyebrows. His harmless and panicky look a moment ago became non–existent. He was a sly, old fox through and through. “You flatter
Hayden threw in the towel. In his opinion, it was a pity that Simon did not foray into the entertainment industry.
