Emilia glanced at him. With a hostile and cold gaze, she looked at the handsome figure behind her for a brief while, before flicking her long hair and flashing a smile instantly. “Mr. Miller? Do I know him?”
Shawn was dumbfounded by her words.
After working for Nathan for so many years, it was the first time he had seen Nathan take the initiative to invite others, but was given the cold shoulder by someone.
“Is this still the Ms. Saunders I know of? She wasn’t like this previously!” Shawn thought to himself.
In the past, it was Emilia who begged Nathan to go home and event wanted to see him. “Now that Nathan took the initiative to meet her, she had rejected him directly instead.
If it were someone else. Shawn would have rushed up to teach her at lesson without even waiting for Nathan’s instruction.
However, Emilia was not someone else. She was Nathan’s wife.
This humiliation was given to him by his own wife. As an assistant, Shawn was an outsider after all. He couldn’t embarrass her publicly, let alone intervene in their marital affairs.
He glanced at Emilia with a silent and shocked expression. Slightly in a daze, Shawn said, “Mr. Miller has come here with sincerity. Shall we go inside and continue this conversation?
“I don’t know him. There is no need to do that.”
Emilia’s thick eyelashes trembled as she stared at Nathan’s cold face. Pretending to be serious, she pursed her lips and said, “Sir, I have to meet a lot of people every day. If you want to meet me, you should get in line. first.
“What? Get in line?” Shawn was dumbfounded by Emilia’s words for at while.
Looking at the woman who rejected him, Nathan’s gaze was frosty as he glanced at Shawn to signal him to step back.
She had actually addressed him as “Sir
Nathan’s eyes were filled with embarrassment, anger, and annoyance. Various indescribable emotions filled his heart as he pursed his thin lips. tightly, feeling inexplicably furious.
Amidst the silence, Emilia glanced at him as if nothing had happened. She couldn’t be bothered to deal with him and was about to walk past him in her high heels.
A sudden force gripped her hand, causing her to halt in her tracks.
He questioned her, “What happened three years ago? Why did my illness disappear as soon as I met you?”
He suspected she was the one who came up with the scheme for the one–night stand back then, as a means for a woman from the slums to elevate her status through a wealthy man’s child. However, if she were a heiress, what could be her motive instead?
A cold, magnetic that spoke interrogatively rang out. The words “three years ago” stopped Emilia in her tracks. She turned around to stare at cold face.
Three years ago? In the past three years, she has taken good care of him. and done everything she can for him. And now, she chose to leave him, so he could be reunited with his childhood sweetheart. That was the very last thing she had done for him. What else did he want?
The experiences Emilia had during her three years of marriage to Nathan flashed through her mind like a movie. Her bright eyes were full of contempt and self–deprecation. “Haven’t I done enough for him already? He’s got a new squeeze, so why is he still bothering me?” she scoffed inwardly.
She found it was too absurd for him to ask her now.
“Sir, I can’t understand a word you said.” Emilia said as she widened her pretty eyes. The mockery in the depths of her gaze silently magnified in his eyes. “I don’t know you at all. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Her expression was extremely cold as she shook off the man’s hand.
Nathan frowned and yanked harder. “I don’t have time to play with you. Why did you approach me three years ago?”
Emilia’s wrist was firmly grasped by him. She couldn’t move at all despite her attempts to walk away.
Nathan’s eyes narrowed as he stared at the woman in front of him, who was completely different from before. It was impossible for people to approach her due to her defiant and cold personality.
Emilia was wearing a simple and professional business suit that day. The exquisite suit outlined her perfect figure, while the light brown coat draped over her, making her look stylish and eye–catching.
Every time she showed up, she would offer him different poses and with different expressions.
Despite whatever demeanor she had, it wasn’t the same as when she was his ex–wife.
In the past, Emilia was always dressed in monotonous black and white outfits. She never wore skirts that went above the knee and would tie her hair in a low ponytail, exuding the demeanor of a gentle and homely
The Emilia now seemed so unfamiliar to him to the point where he even felt like he had never truly known her
The more Nathan thought of what had happened recently, the darker his expression became. Coupled with the fact he was given the cold shoulder, raging anger filled his chest.
As a bystander, Raymond didn’t want to interfere in Emilia’s private. affairs. However, after noticing Nathan’s increasingly darkened expression, considering that he was the one who had wronged Emilia. first with an extramarital affair, Raymond was afraid that he would harm. Emilia again.
Therefore, he walked toward Nathan and stood between Emilia and Nathan, shielding her from Nathan.
After glancing to the left and right, Raymond assumed the role of a superficial peacemaker. “It’s fine that you want to invite Ms. Saunders, but we just need you to take a number.”
Shawn was rendered speechless.
“Mr. Miller has to draw lots just to see his wife?”
Having heard that, Shawn was amazed. It was indeed fascinating for him.
Then, Raymond called the receptionist over and said, “Go get an appointment form for Mr. Miller.”
“Yes. The receptionist did as she was told.
The receptionist took the appointment form and handed it to Nathan. politely.
“Please draw your lot, Mr. Miller.” After all, Raymond was older than Emilia and had seen more things in life than she had. He spoke to
Nathan with the utmost respect.
Looking at the appointment form, Nathan frowned and his face became stern. When had he ever been treated like this?
Never. Not even once.
However, Emilia became too abnormal after divorcing him. To learn more about his ex–wife, who had changed so much suddenly, he decided to put up with it.
With a cold and stern expression, Nathan complied with Raymond’s wishes.
Soon, Raymond received a prompt from the IT system. He pretended to look at the result seriously before giving Nathan a number tag with an apologetic expression. “I’m really sorry, Mr. Miller, but Ms. Saunders‘ appointment number has been arranged until six years from now.”
He then added, “Please come back in six years to see Ms. Saunders with the number tag.”
Nathan was speechless.
Having been humiliated just now, his face darkened completely as he looked at the number tag that was handed to him. He felt a great sense of embarrassment.
In disbelief, Shawn stood beside him with his mouth open, utterly speechless.
Nathan was asked to get in line and draw lots, and now he was actually told to come back and see her again in six years!
“Poor Mr. Miller. All he wants is to see his wife. How can it be so difficult?”
In a daze, Nathan was so infuriated that he didn’t utter another word.
“It’s fine with me if she doesn’t want to see me. Who would want to see her anyway?” Nathan scoffed inwardly. He took the initiative to meet her,
