“Nathan, what happened to your face?”
A gust of fragrant breeze brushed by.
Jessica’s legs hadn’t fully recovered. She sat in a wheelchair, her delicate face pale. She wore a simple French–style dress, and her knees were covered with a fuzzy blanket that was hand–knitted by Emilia, adorned with her favorite apricot blossom pattern.
She exerted herself to roll the wheelchair closer to him.
She raised her delicate oval face and looked at the man who was looking condescendingly at her. The prominent red fingerprint stood out starkly on his cold, chiseled features.
Jessica froze at the sight and frowned. “Who did this to you?”
The sweet sound of her voice pulled Nathan back from his night of contemplation
He lowered his cold, handsome face and narrowed his eyes ever so slightly. He cast a sidelong glance at Jessica, and his gaze unexpectedly landed on the blanket covering her knees.
The familiar pattern on the blanket, every stitch, had been hand–knitted by Emilia.
In an instant, his expression turned distant, and the image of Emilia’s familiar, petite face suddenly flashed before him. It was as if a giant hand. had hollowed out his heart.
Seeing that he had been staring at her without saying anything, Jessica followed his gaze and asked, “Nathan? What’s wrong? Is there anywhere else that hurts apart from your face?”
“It’s nothing, just a minor injury.” Jessica’s sweet tone brought him back. from his reverie.
Jessica’s voice carried a hint of choked emotion, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. Silent teardrops clung to her long lashes as she said, “How can this be a minor injury? Your face is swollen.”
“It’s all red. And yet you said it’s a minor injury,” she continued.
Jessica let out a long sigh, her face filled with concern for him. She had

“Sit down properly.”
Nathan fell silent for a moment, his face cold and aloof. With a soft smack, he gently pushed away her hand without using much force. “It’s fine.”
He raised his hand to gently stroke her shoulder, careful not to apply too. much force and hurt her delicate shoulder. Then, he pressed her back into the wheelchair. “Your leg isn’t fully healed yet. Don’t move around.”
Jessica’s swaying body was suddenly helped back into the wheelchair by Nathan.
But her hand was slapped away by him mercilessly…
Jessica’s already pale face suddenly clouded with a hint of grievance as Nathan unexpectedly pushed her away.
In a moment, anger, grievance, and unwillingness swirled within her, as if, a large hand was forcefully tearing at her heart.
But she knew Nathan well. He wouldn’t speak about things he didn’t want to, no matter how much she asked..
She sighed inwardly and decided not to press further.
After all, Nathan had already promised to marry her. Sooner or later, he would be hers.
With that thought in mind, Jessica bit her lip and looked at the distant man with his aloof and cold expression. She suppressed her inner turmoil and said, “Nathan, wait for me. I’ll go get some ice to apply to your face.”
Without waiting for Nathan to say a word, Jessica, feeling like a wronged wife, wiped away a tear and wheeled the chair away.
When she returned, she had regained her composure, concealing her negative emotions deep within. Her eyes were just slightly red.
She brought back some ice wrapped in a towel, held it high, and carefully handed it to Nathan. “Is it better now?

The room was so quiet that one could even hear a pin drop.
Jessica raised her small face and gazed at his perfectly chiseled features. Even after all these years, he still made her heart flutter.
In her heart, she silently affirmed that Nathan belonged to her, and it could only be her.
Jessica’s sweet voice broke the silence, “Nathan, I came here today to discuss our matter. My mom asked about our wedding again yesterday. She went to the church and picked an auspicious day. It’s in the beginning of next month. She wants us to get married next month.
Nathan’s brows furrowed slightly as he observed the delicate features of the woman’s face. His gaze lingered on her slightly reddened eyes and frowned suddenly.
He had agreed to marry her, but he hadn’t expected it to be so soon.
Seeing him remain silent, Jessica’s heart sank a bit. She feared that Nathan might change his mind. “Nathan, you promised to marry me. Don’t you want to marry me anymore?”

Staring into her watery eyes, Nathan felt a bit dazzled, and his cold, contemplative gaze hesitated for a moment.
In the past, he had been deeply in love with these eyes that had captivated him, and now, it was still the same.
Without Jessica, there would be no him today.
It was she who had risked her life to rescue him from the fire, giving him a second chance at life.
Nathan was not an ungrateful person. Jessica had saved his life, and she was also his beloved. From both an emotional and moral standpoint, he had a responsibility and obligation to take care of her.
“I have missed you
for so many years, and I don’t want to miss you
anymore. I’ll do as you say.”
“You promised to marry me next month?”
Hearing Nathan’s words, Jessica’s face lit up excitedly, and she stared at him with her limpid watery eyes. She was overjoyed.
Nathan casually put his hand in his pocket and nodded.
“Nathan, I appreciate your kindness. I’ve got my eye on a wedding dress, and I was wondering if you’d join me in checking it out. You see, I find their taste to be a bit conventional, and I don’t quite trust their judgment. I only have full faith in yours. Could you please lend me your insights?”
Jessica struck a playful pose and encircled the man’s narrow waist with her voluptuous arm. She coquettishly pressed her face against his waist.
“As long as you like it.” Nathan gently stroked her furry head.
As soon as he finished speaking, his phone rang, shattering the atmosphere in the room.
Nathan answered with a low voice, “Hello.”
Shawn’s voice rang from the other end of the call, “Mr. Miller, it’s been quite challenging to gather information about the daughter of the Saunders family. We’ve only managed to find the same information as before. However, when we piece together what we found previously with the new information, it seems rather coincidental that Emilia appeared by your side.”
Shawn’s words made his eyebrows furrow. He tightened his grip on the phone with his long fingers. “Send me the information.”
With a ding, Nathan received a folder from Shawn.
Three years ago, he was on the brink of death, having just undergone surgery. His body had barely begun to recover when he had spent a night with Emilia. Later on, she used the pregnancy as a tool to coerce him into marriage. Moreover, Noah’s insistent on her being the savior of the Miller family allowed her to exploit the weak spot and enter his life.
The daughter of the Saunders family had been dead for ten years but Emilia had married him three years ago. Where had she been during this
time, and what had she done?
What was her true identity? What hidden agenda had driven her to such elaborate schemes in marrying him?
One question after another hit his mind like waves, making him restless. and increasingly agitated.
“Arrange a meeting with Emilia. I want to see her.”
Nathan’s eyes concealed a murky, unfathomable depth as he spoke with a cold, agitated tone.
