Chapter 22
It was no wonder why Nathan couldn’t find Emilia these days. Right then, all the clues and details intertwined in his mind, connecting into a complete storyline.
The person who reappeared after vanishing into thin air was the one he had been looking for all this time.
And her true identity turned out to be Emily.
The exasperation of being slapped in the face and the shock of uncovering the truth clashed in Nathan’s mind, leaving him in a state of frustration.
However, at that moment, Nathan’s heart was filled with such immense. rage that he couldn’t care less about the pain on his face. The scene of Emilia slapping him in the face kept replaying in his mind, and every word she had said echoed in his ear.
Emilia was enchanting, laid–back, and glamorous. Her words were ruthless and sarcastic. And she had even hit him.
Nonetheless, the name “Emily” was like a mysterious, powerful mantra, dispersing the anger of being slapped by Emilia. Besides, it stirred up his mind uncontrollably, which caused him to fall into deep speculation.
Meanwhile, Adrian caught a glimpse of the person in the photo. He was shocked, and he exclaimed, “The Saunders family has been claiming that their daughter went missing ten years ago! What a surprise that she has become your wife!”
“That is so shocking!” he thought.
With a clank, Adrian skillfully lifted the cap of the windproof lighter and lit a cigarette. A swirling cloud of white smoke, tinted with the rich scent of nicotine, shrouded Nathan’s cold, handsome face.
Adrian clicked his tongue twice.
As he met Nathan’s cold, deep gaze, Adrian rested his arm on the former’s shoulder and said empathetically, “She is the prominent young lady of the Saunders family. It was worthwhile to have her as your wife.”
There wasn’t a hint of warmth in Nathan’s captivating eyes. He parted his thin lips and corrected coldly, “Ex–wif
Chapter 12
Adrian puffed out a mouthful of smoke and coughed violently. “If you really see Emilia as your ex–wife, why did you put aside your work and hurry here from far away as soon as you heard she was here?”
He continued, “You can’t be regretting divorcirig Ms. Saunders, can you? Tsk! Haven’t you been having lingering feelings with your childhood. sweetheart? Now that your wife has made room for you and your mistress, why are you still putting on an act?”
Although Adrian was a playboy, he had his principles and hated. mistresses very much.
That was why he had a bad impression of Jessica, who had been seducing Nathan all these years after the latter had gotten married.
“Why should I regret divorcing a scheming woman who married me for a purpose and even slapped me?” Nathan sneered in his mind.
He lowered his cold eyes and suppressed his fury from being slapped. At that moment, he wasn’t in the mood to joke with Adrian. His mind was full of the girl in the slum whom he had married. She had then
transformed into Emily, the eldest daughter of the Saunders family who had disappeared for many years.
“Run a thorough check on her for me,” said Nathan.
“Who is it? Emilia?” Adrian asked.
With the trace of a handprint on his grim face, Nathan let out an indifferent hum in response.
Adrian curled his lips into a smile and narrowed his beautiful amber pupils. He couldn’t help but chuckle and said, “Come on, Nathan. Whether Emilia is the daughter of the Saunders family or not, you have divorced her. Besides, haven’t you gotten back together with your soulmate, Jessica? Since she is back, why are you still thinking about your ex–wife? Having a woman by your side but thinking about another in your head–come on! Don’t be such a scumbag.”
When he heard Adrian’s unpleasant words, Nathan raised his eyebrows coldly, and his stunning face turned even colder.
Adrian sensed the dark air around Nathan. A few seconds later, he lowered his eyelids slightly and said, ‘Got it. There is an auction the day after tomorrow. I will invite her to the auction, and then you can talk to her yourself and solve the mystery.
Chapter 22
“Even I can’t get hold of her. How are you supposed to invite her?” asked Nathan with a frown.
“Don’t underestimate me!” Adrian lifted his long fingers and brushed his well–groomed short hair backward. His smiling, charismatic face was full. of confidence. “It’s hard to say. Given my handsome and elegant appearance, there hasn’t been any woman who can reject me.”
Depressed in the first place, Nathan showed an icy expression when he saw Adrian’s narcissistic look. Then, he turned around and left the bar.
Sitting in the car back to Woodlake Residence, Nathan was continuously disturbed by the thought of Emilia being the daughter of the Saunders family. His face was cold and gloomy, like an overcast sky.
As soon as he set foot in the house, Nathan was greeted by a faint lavender scent, which he was so familiar with. It was the scent of Emilia.
He sniffed the fragrance along the way to the bedroom.
The bedroom was still in its original state as decorated by Emilia. The bedsheets, blankets, and curtains were all light blue, showcasing a refreshing and elegant style. The air was filled with the faint scent of lavender.
As Nathan’s eyes swept across the familiar yet unfamiliar environment, memories of the past flashed through his mind, like the scenes of a movie. He could sense Emilia’s presence and smell her scent everywhere in the room.
During the three years of their marriage, Emilia had been respectful to the elders and had taken care of their home in an orderly manner. Never once did Nathan need to worry about family matters.
As Nathan recalled the past, his good–looking face was covered with at layer of mist before he knew it. His chest seemed to be weighed down by a boulder, so heavy that he could barely breathe.
Nathan lit a cigar and puffed out the smoke.
He wasn’t sure whether it was Adrian’s words or the nicotine that had stimulated his nerves. In a trance, he saw Emilia happily make soup for him in an apron, smiling gently yet playfully. Her smile was so dazzling that he was almost blinded.
Familiar yet elusive female voice resounded in his ear.
Chapter 22
“Nathan, I’ve washed all your clothes for you.”
“It’s your birthday today. I’ve made you a cake myself.”
“Nathan, are you working overtime again? Please come home early.”
Perhaps with nicotine flowing into his brain, his nerves were further stimulated. As the sparks that had fallen on his fingertips dissipated, the burning sensation stirred up his mood, causing him to feel ever more distressed.
Meanwhile, as the evening lights were lit, the ancient city was filled with hustle and bustle much more than during the daytime. Here and there, lovers held their hands and walked their dogs, strolling after dinner with sweet smiles.
Emilia leaned against the back of the chair, and her gorgeous face turned. sideways. As she watched the lively and vibrant night scene outside the window, Nathan’s charismatic face suddenly emerged in her mind.
She had loved him and was heartbroken.
Once upon a time, Emilia had also longed for the kind of love that could. be shared in ordinary life, like three daily meals, and would last through four seasons.
Her red lips formed a sardonic arc. Unfortunately, the person she was fond of didn’t like her at all. Nathan had mercilessly shattered the wonderful dream in her heart.
Suddenly, the cool evening breeze ruffled her long hair through the window. By her side, Hayden took off his coat and wrapped her tightly with it.
“It was unexpected of Nathan to personally come look for you in such a place.” Hayden snorted coldly and speculated, “That scumbag can’t want to get back together with you because he misses you, can he?”
“No way.” A familiar face that was cold and handsome suddenly emerged in Emilia’s mind. She twitched her red lips and sneered. “I know Nathan. He never likes me. His beloved is Jessica.”
Even though she had said that herself, her words pierced her heart like thorns and hurt her deeply.
Nathan had been waiting for Jessica for so many years, and that showed how important she was in his heart.
Chapter 22
“Anyway, you did a really good job. The famous Nathan was embarrassed by you and was even slapped in the face. I must give you a thumbs–up.” Every time Hayden thought of the scene where Emilia slapped Nathan in the face just then, he got very excited.
Perhaps because she felt lost at the mention of Nathan’s name, or maybe. she was drunk, but Emilia suddenly dropped all those messy thoughts in her mind. Her indifferent face looked befuddled with her eyes half–shut, and a faint fragrance wafted from her hair into the air.
Sitting on the other side of Emilia was Simon. He turned his head around and admired Emilia’s natural beauty. Then, he lifted his charming eyebrows devilishly and said, “Nathan doesn’t deserve bliss. If he doesn’t want such a beautiful wife, I will take her in.”
Simon leaned closer to Emilia, then raised his hand and gently brushed away the long hair that covered her face. “Little kitty…”
However, before he could finish his words, Emilia fell asleep, leaning against the back of the chair.
