Chapter 11
“Emilia, do you still remember when you were little, how you loved playing hide and seek? You used to hide in the closet, and every time I searched in the closet, I’d find you,” Victoria said with a motherly expression, gazing at Emilia with eyes filled with love. It was as if her sole purpose in coming tonight was to stroll down memory lane.
“Is that so? I’m sorry, Aunt Victoria, but I don’t remember that anymore,” Emilia apologized with a smile, and a slight awkwardness settled in the
room.
Victoria hesitated for a moment but then continued as if nothing had occurred, “It’s not a big deal if you don’t recall. It’s perfectly normal. But do you still remember that back then, you really didn’t like…”
She almost delved into recounting more memories she had shared with Emilia. Listening to this, Jason began to grow restless, and he finally spoke softly, “Emilia, you’ve only recently returned, and there’s a lot you. might not be aware of. The company has undergone significant changes, with many founding members relying on their seniority and not. listening to management. They even dare to scold me from time to time. / I tend to be quite decent; I usually don’t dare to interfere with them.”
Finally, he got to the point.
Emilia’s drowsiness dissipated as she reevaluated her “decent” uncle.

“I heard that as soon as you arrived at the company today, you project. Isn’t that decision too hasty? Over the years, Saunders Group has appeared prosperous on the surface, but it’s actually been on the decline. If this financing project goes through, it could be a lifesaver for Saunders. Group.”
Victoria spoke earnestly, as if genuinely concerned for her niece.
Emilia remained silent, merely observing her aunt’s self–directed performance.
However, Jason, sensing that his wife had finally come to the point, cleared his throat and said, “Indeed, Emilia, you’re young and may not yet grasp the intricacies of running a company. Although I haven’t been very active in recent years, I’ve still accumulated some experience in this held. Your impulsiveness could jeopardize the legacy your father left behind
Chapter 11
“Yes, back then, Jonah worked tirelessly for a month to establish Saunders Group, sleeping only three hours a night. In the end, he developed stomach bleeding and had to be hospitalized. Matters concerning the company should not be taken lightly!”
Victoria concurred with her husband and mentioned Emilia’s father. While speaking, she made an attempt to reach for Emilia’s hand.
However, Emilia evaded her touch. “Aunt Victoria, you said you came to visit me today, but it seems to me that you care more about the company than me?”
Her bright eyes remained fixed on her aunt, her voice colder than the night.
Victoria suddenly felt a pang of unease and hastily tried to explain herself.
“Silly child, we’re doing this for your own good. Your uncle has worked tirelessly to secure such a significant project. If someone else takes it away, it would be a major loss for the Saunders Group. If the company faces problems, in the end, it’s you who will suffer the most, right?”
Emilia couldn’t help but sneer at these words, thinking if she hadn’t suffered enough already.
She had no intention of indulging them any further and replied coldly, “Regardless of who negotiated it, all projects must undergo scrutiny to ensure fairness.”
As soon as she said this, the smiles on Victoria and her husband’s faces vanished.
Rebecca, who had been suppressing her anger all night, couldn’t hold back any longer.
“Stop right there, Emilia. So what if you’re back? My parents have devoted themselves to the company for these past few years, almost moving our entire family there. You come back and want to undo all their hard work? Do you have no conscience?”
She couldn’t tolerate Emilia’s haughty demeanor.
When Emilia was absent, she had been the one showered with affection; now that Emilia had returned, everything revolved around her, even own parents demanded it. Why should she accept this!
Chapter 11
Emilia halted in her tracks, looking at her cousin, whom she had been separated from for ten years.
Everything had changed, except for this cousin who remained.
unchanged, her intelligence seemingly frozen in time for the past ten years, always exasperated and prone to petty insults, which was truly foolish.
Emilia cast a cold glance at Rebecca and remarked, “Since you don’t understand anything about business matters, why don’t you just play the role of a clueless heiress? Why must you meddle in this? Is this what people refer to as someone lacking the skills but still keen on being involved in a particular area?”
“Who are you calling clueless? Say that again!”
Rebecca stepped forward, her eyes burning with anger, ready to hit Emilia, but a dog’s bark startled her.
She looked up and saw Jacob coming down with his dog.
“I was wondering whose dog was barking so loudly in the middle of the night, keeping everyone awake. Turns out, it’s you guys.”
Jacob was casually dressed and appeared harmless, but Jason, who had dealt with him countless times over the years, knew better.
He quickly restrained his daughter and scolded her. “What are you doing? Emily has just returned, and she might be a bit disoriented. Even if she’s distant and unwilling to communicate with us, you can’t resort to violence!”
“Lia is anything but disoriented. She just doesn’t communicate with dogs, only with people. Isn’t that right, Mr. Yates?”
Jacob had now reached Emilia and casually settled into the couch. His mastiff lounged beside him, looking completely relaxed.
Emilia couldn’t help but sigh and rub her temples; Jacob’s arrogance was acting up again.
Jason’s sense of humiliation grew, but he had to lower his head while under this roof.
Now that Emilia was in control of the company, he had to swallow his pride for the time being until he achieved his goals.
Chapter II
“Becca, apologize to your cousin.”
“I won’t!”
Rebecca stubbornly raised her head, refusing to yield. She had never apologized to anyone in her life, and apologizing to Emilia, whom she had looked down upon since childhood, felt even more unbearable than getting slapped!
“Apologize! Why? You’re not even listening to me now?”
Jason was already seething with anger, and his daughter’s stubbornness pushed him over the edge.
Rebecca’s stubbornness reminded Jason of the times when Emilia had shown him no mercy in the company. Fueled by anger, he impulsively kicked Rebecca’s knee before she could comprehend what was happening. As a result, Rebecca ended up kneeling in front of Emilia.
“Rebecca, there’s no need for such a grand gesture,” Emilia remarked coldly, not even bothering to avoid the spectacle. She had become utterly disappointed with her aunt’s family.
Rebecca was left dumbfounded by the situation.
She got up from the ground, glanced at her parents in disbelief, then stared at Emilia. Her lips quivered for a moment, but she didn’t dare to say anything. Finally, she stormed out of the room, leaving behind Victoria and Jason.
Victoria took a deep breath, her fingertips digging into her flesh. She forced a smile and said, “Emilia, don’t take it to heart. She’s just a bit impulsive with her words, but she means no harm.”
She then helped Jason to his feet and gave Emilia some advice, acting like an elder. “Emilia, take good care of yourself at home. Your uncle knows more about company matters than you do. If you have any questions, you can always ask him. We’ll head back now.”
Emilia remained seated and only slightly raised her chin. “All right, take

Once the couple had left the house, their smiles faded, and they
exchanged a knowing glance, both silently coming to the same decision!
